Hello, my name is my scott and i am having trouble with Unreal Tournament game of the year edition. before and also after i install the 436 patch, i get a stupid error right after i try to open unreal tournament when the little splash screen comes up :
"General Protection Fault!
History: FLightManager::Init <- URender::Init <- UGameEngine::Init <-InitEngine"
then there is just a OK button.
i click it and it closes the loading screen for UT.
please help. feel free to msg me on AIM or msn at hell_spawn8776@shaw.ca

uninstall any joysticks cause this"FLightManager"sounds like one
like the other post said sometimes aftermarket mice ,keyboards ,etc. can cause problems
Only thing i could recomend is going to c:/UnrealTournament/System/and deleteing a file called UnrealTournament.ini
Or you could simply move that file out of ut/system to somwhere safe.
then start ut and see if it works
If not just place your saved ini back into system.

Lol your solution to everything is to delete the UnrealTournament.ini :haha:

I've just bought unreal tournament GOTY. I get your exact same error, the game would run only right after installing the game, when trying to re run the game again it would show that exact same error. Reinstalling helps, but again it would only run the first time. so I called infogrames and they couldn't really help. so I tried updating to DX 9. Go to this link http://www.ina-support.com/faq/utgotydownloads_pc.asp it will tell you that "Patch Version 436 requires the Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack, Inoxx Bonus Pack, and the Digital Extremes Bonus Pack to operate correctly." you can get those files from here (these 2 files aren't included in the CD) http://www.unrealtournament.com/downloads/ since you have GOTY version, the first bonus pack is already included in the game, you will only need the second and the third bonus pack.
after you've downloaded all the files that you need, reinstall the game then install all the bonus packs, then install the patch and try running it. it fixed my problem, I hope you have luck with yours. if you want to talk about it IM me my SN is noom007
Peace!

have you tried to reinstall the game......maybe you had a bad install.....try reinstalling and then try to run it without the 436 patch first then install the patch and if it craps out then you know its the patch and get another patch.

guys, I've finally found out what is wrong. I had a virus all over my computer, and reinstalling the windowns didn't help because it was in my back up flies, and in all the drivers that I had. I've finally formated my hardrive, install windows redownload all my drivers from the websites. re scan my computer checking for virus one last time, installed the game and give it a try. AND IT WORKED! it seems that I've had a virus for so long and it has spread all over my back up files and all the drivers that I had, so everytime I reinstall my computer and use the drivers, the virus would still be there. Now the game works great with out a single problem. :D the virus that I had seems to make any file that I download becomes infected. good luck to all of you that gets this error. I've found my problem, hopefully you'll find yours.

Yeah, I am having the same EXACT General Protection error that Rene is.
http://www.somewhereib.com/error.jpg
I run (or we run, not sure):
Win XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4 2.53 GHz
NVidia GeForce 4 MX 420
Creative SB Live!
Now, I've updated everything I can, including the 436 patch, and I still get this error, plus, I've run Norton on my whole system, being told that this would help, and it didn't. Also, the problem occured before I installed Norton, so it's not Norton. I've dealt with this problem in the past, only to completely uninstall UT: GOTY edition before I played soccer with my computer. Please help. Is there an XP fix that we don't know about or something?

im not much for windows xp but i was just wondering if you guys are useing winpoet or useing some kind of program to logon the inter net if your useing cable modem or dsl....the only reason im askin is cause a friend of mine who tryed the game on his xp was using dsl with winpoet and everytime he tryed to get online the game would crash with those same errors so we went out got him a linksys router and not the exspensive one wither i think it only cost like $50 to use to logon the net for him and ever since then the game has been running fine for him with no errors.
good luck guys

works wonders sometimes
esp if youve been running ut without a fresh install for a while
I just say it because its a easy fix compared to reinstall or haveing to troubleshoot your whole pc
heres my other tip :haha:
after a fresh install and you configure everything and set your fav list play a few times
take your ut ini and user ini and copy them somewhere
if ut starts to run like crap or has errors replace them with the ones you copied
before i read this somewhere i was un/reinstalling ut monthly
guess the more you play online on different servers the more crap is added to them

another good one for xp users only
10 or 15 mintues before you want to play a game
go to start/run
and type in
Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
;)
let it run 10 or 15 mintues(says microsoft)

Alright...I've tried the removal of the UnrealTournament.ini file, and I can say that it worked...for some time. Now, nothing will, not even that. I get the same exact error. Also, I've done a fresh install, and that didn't even work. I thought UT would be workable on XP, but I guess not. Patootie, considering that probably most the people run it on XP anyway.

Whether or not ppl read this forum still, here is my opinions on this error.
I am running UT 436 on WinXP and haven;t had problems since upgrading to DirectX 9... DirectX 8 had problems with my sound card, and UT would lock up unless I disabled directsound...
But other than that, no probs, th ocassional lock-ups but that is just normal... But I seem to remember seeing this error once before... I suggest you change the LocalMap entry in UnrealTournament.ini.
-Change From-
LocalMap=CityIntro.unr
-To-
LocalMap=UT-Logo-Map.unr
This will do two things, It will load the logo you see after the intro straight away, skipping the intro altogether (As this seems to have something to do with the problem), as well as speeding up UTs starting time... (That is if it works)..

What version of XP are you running? Home or Pro? Because I tried that, and it still didn't work. It seems to be something with the male1 pack or whatever the hell it is, I'm not sure, cause when I changed that line, it now said "TMale2 UT-Logo-Map.TMale0" instead of the usual "TMale2 City-Intro.TMale0". Could there maybe be something with the characters model that isn't loading right? I also have the latest version of DirectX.

This is the EXACT error I'm getting. I don't know how to fix it, but I accidentally stumbled on a workaround.
I built a new machine this week, w/ Abit NF7-S 2.0, onboard Soundstorm, AIW 9700, WinXP. Installed UT GOTY edition on it a couple hours ago, and got the error. I figured bad install or hosed ATI driver, so I uninstalled all ATI software and drivers, uninstalled UT, then reinstalled. Same error. Tried starting in safe mode, wouldn't do it. Tried changing to software rendering, wouldn't do it. Fired up 3DMark03 to see if it was still working, and it was fine.
So I get on the 'net thinking it must be UT not liking XP, and surely there's a patch at the website. Didn't find anything, but Googled around for awhile and found an EAX patch. I installed it, and whaddya know, it works now. So I reboot to hook up to my HDTV and 7.1 surround system, thinking this is gonna be sweet, but when I go to run it, I get the error again. After spouting off some obscenities I tried to think of what I did before to retrace my steps. I re-installed the EAX patch, but that doesn't do it. So I'm thinking that's all I did, why doesn't it work now...but then I remember I opened up 3DMark03 right before I opened UT. So I open up 3DMark03 again, go into the first test and then cancel it, back out of it and try UT. It works. So then I decide it wasn't the EAX patch after all, and I uninstall it. Go to fire up UT again, and it won't work. Now my language is really foul. So I reinstall the EAX patch, and it works again. I've rebooted my machine a couple times now and it's consistent.
So until something better comes along, that's my fix. Install the EAX patch, which is a one time thing, then open up 3DMark03 and close it before trying to run UT.
The file is uteaxsys.exe, or uteaxsys.zip if it's zipped, just do a Google search and there are plenty of links. Also keep in mind that I don’t know if it’ll work for other critical errors, I just know it works for me.

I recived a similar message and discovered that there was a corrupt file. The file UnrealTournament/maps/CityIntro.unr was corrupt and therefore would give me an error when I would start the game. There are two ways of fixing the problem.
One:
Open the file UnrealTournament/System/UnrealTournament.ini
Find the "URL" section of the file, it should look similar to this:
Protocol=unreal
ProtocolDescription=Unreal Protocol
Name=Player
Map=Index.unr
LocalMap=CityIntro.unr
Host=
Portal=
MapExt=unr
SaveExt=usa
Port=7777
Class=Botpack.TMale1
Change the LocalMap=CityIntro.unr to something differant like:
LocalMap=CTF-Face.unr
Two:
You could just replace the file of which I have taken the liberty to post at:
http://www.geocities.com/lutzt_05/CityIntro.zip
Just unzip and replace the file.
Hope this helps..

I got the exact same problem but its not a corrupt file.
My pc is a
P4 2,8ghz 800fsb
abit IC7
1gb ddr Ram
Geforce FX 5600 256ddr
Windows xp pro sp1
Do you guys who have the same problem use the detonator FX drivers from nvidia? Cause I'm going to download an older detonator driver. I hope that works.

That wasn't the problem either. Wtf is going on with ut. I've reinstalled it allot and it still doesn't work. On my older pc a p4 1,4 ghz with a 32mb tnt2 videocard it work perfect.

My and my friend have linked that error to installing SP1 for windows XP. After we both installed SP1 we havn't been able to play UT. Someone want to try uninstalling their SP1 and trying again?

About a week or so after my earlier post, there was another post on this forum about the same thing. Somebody said it was their Logitech software botching things up. I uninstalled my MX Duo keyboard software, and that fixed the problem. EM_EXEC still runs in the background for the mouse, which is a good thing, because UT2003 needs it to be able to use the scroll wheel and extra buttons. The other good thing is that even with the keyboard software completely uninstalled, the keyboard still "remembers" the settings of the programmable keys. So you can install it, set up your keyboard the way you want, then uninstall it. Or, I guess you could just try disabling the software. Since I wasn't using any custom keys at the time, I had just wiped it to be sure.
BTW, I'm running WinXP Pro w/ SP1a.

Hi, folks. Just wanted to share my personal success story. It was all about removing the Logitech iTouch software that came with my wireless keyboard and mouse. After removing that Unreal Tournament is running just fine.
A small sacrifice to get the war machine running.
Notes:
WinXP Pro SP1
P4 1.5GHz
512MB RAM
Yadda, yadda, yadda
Software is Logitech iTouch (included with Cordless Elite Duo) and many of their other products I'm sure.

I already discoverd that it was the i-touch software. Damn I spend 4 hours on trying to fix ut.Then I read in another topic that it was the i-touch software. I deleted it and all my problems are over.
