So yeah this is gonna be the designated Cedar Fair parks thread.
In recent news full circuit testing on Top Thrill Dragster has been taking place since Thursday(4-17-2003), after seeing this and seeing the trains coming down the top hat, it just shows how big this ride really is! oh my! i can't wait till May 4th! so who is going to CP on the 4th?

Hey Harpo are you a Joe Cool member? If so do you want to randevus at the magnum entrance and ride TTD? we can get some pics for some other site that i go to (you know which one :D ).
And i might be going to Cedar Point for Season Pass processing on the 26th or 27th, if i wasn't taking my Rents with me to see the park (both non-coaster riders dad heart probs my mom is kinda a wuss lol but hey she loves the raptor! so not a total wuss.), we could car pool and split the gas money to get there all $500 of it with gas prices around here the way they are man it is rediculous! oh well.
Hope to see you on the 4th and OhiocoasteR i might be there on the 24th, this year i get to go when i want cause i finally got a season pass yay! :D

As Harpo and IEATPASTE001 know, I am definitely going on May 12th. I am still considering about going on the 4th but am not positive yet. It all depends if I have a final at LTU on the 5th. If I do, I won't go so I can spend that time studing. If I do not, provided that I start studying for finals today, I will go so I can blow off some of the stress related to finals. If I do go, I would like to to meet up with Harpo and IEATPASTE001.
P.S. Today is my 20th birthday (and I know I just made Harpo feel old :haha: ).

"Rats" on the whole CP idea. I have money saved up, but htus far have been unsuccesful finding a job in MI. So at this point, no CP season pass and likely wont be there on opening day. I envy all of you who will be. Have fun and good luck, I hope Dragster is working at a fairly efficient level.

Sorry I haven't responded for a bit... I've been too busy planning my 2003 Summer Coaster Cruise! This was a tough one to plan -- took over 50 hours, but it's ready! I'll be visiting 19 parks (with two optional parks also a possibility) in 12 days (one of those days taken up with attending a wedding) crossing 11 states. Naturally, one of those parks will be a Cedar Fair park. In my past 3 trips, I've always included Cedar Point in the trip -- I figured that by having the Point in there, I was guaranteed at least one good park. Well, this year, I have to fly to my starting point in Kansas City. So, my guarantee of a good park will be coming in the form of another Cedar Fair park: Worlds of Fun.
As for opening day at The Point, a friend of mine and I will be there. We'll be at the Radisson hotel on the night of the 3rd, probably surrounded by basket makers. (Longaberger Basket Company rents the park for May 3rd -- they've done that for quite a few years now. Wish my employer did that!) The day of May 3rd will be spent slumming at a lesser park in Aurora, Ohio. Of course, I have no idea what that park might be. ;)
As for the Joe Cool Club, yes, I'm a member. Unfortunately, my friend is not. Of course, there'll also be some delay for TTD as the top bid riders get their rides. In case you're not aware, Cedar Point allows the Firelands Red Cross chapter to auction off the first 96 rides (I think it's 96) for charity. I thought about bidding, but the top bid is currently over $500, and the lowest is around $135. That's pushing my budget a bit too far!
Anyway, we still might be able to get in a bit early. I know that Cedar Point Resort guests, like Joe Cool Club members, are able to get into the park early. However, I'm not sure how that works with Radisson guests. (The Radisson is owned by Cedar Fair.)
Looking forward to May 4th!
On the good news/bad news front: The good news -- my company invited me to a conference in Germany for May 12th and 13th along with all the other people in the company who earned patents in 2002. The bad news -- my boss won't spring for the trip, so I'm not going. More good news -- that means I'll be going to Cedar Point for those two days.
Can't get enough of those coasters, doncha know!
Now, what exactly do I do with this RCT board game that arrived at my doorstep yesterday???

Sweet!!! :D Guess I will be seeing you on the 12th, Harpo. I really am excited about the 12th. Hopefully, I will also be able to meet my HS physics teacher there. Last year my class went on the 13th of May because the CP's Physics day was in conflict of another event at my old HS. Good thing too, there was low park attendance on the 13th, so everything was a walk-on except for Raptor, MF, WT(although it did have about a 15-30 min queue, and DT (because it was raining slightly :( ). On the 9th, however, I think the park would be very crowded.
Bad news: I am in the same boat as raptor, I do not have a summer job yet so going opening day is pretty much out of the question.
Good news: When I get a job, I most likely will get a season pass with JCC. I hope this is before May 12th so I do not have to pay the regular price.

Well i got back from The Point, got my pass and a few Pics of TTD. i got to see TTD test from the breakers lot.Talked to a cop as well and didn't get booted out. we went around the perimitter, even tho i told my dad we shouldn't then, as i finally talked some sense into him, he turned around to go back. then Click click swoooooooosh!!!!!!!! it shot off, very very fast! so we decided to wait a second or soo to see if another was gonna go off, just as about the time we were gonna leave the police car drove by and i asked if we could be here, he said stay out of the way and don't go in the maintence and construction marked areas. so i got to see it legally test from the breakers lot. we didn't camp out or anything, but we watched it twice my 'rents missed it the first time, the second train went off and i was like well lets go home. i will be back here tomorrow yay! i love Cedar Point! oh yeah i have some PICs of the new ride TTD but they are from the season pass center not from the breakers lot, we just watched the ride there. it was cool to see this actually running. i have been watching the building of it from the begining. i can't wait for next sunday! i hope some to see some of you guys at the Point next sunday!

Well good news and bad news. Bad news first. Looks like Dragster will be running 4 car tains for awhile instead of 5. good news is that they will have the 5th car on asap. i guess they ran into some problems or didn't test it enough and don't want to rag on the launch with all five cars until it is broken in a bit. but by the end of the summer TTD will have all five cars on its 6 trains!
Just thought osme people would like to know this.
IEATPASTE001
05-01-2003, 10:26 AM
Well weather got the best of the news this morning. no launches yet but they will be waiting out the rain. i hope lee allen gets a roll back ride and we hear him scream like a little girl! lol well i will be reporting back asap. weather and CP are not friends sometimes.
IEATPASTE001
05-01-2003, 09:21 PM
some news about TTD, the fifth car will be on the trains once they get stronger magnets for the breaks. when that happens we will have 5 cars for all six trains. yay! that is a relief!

TTD's Media Day has really made me want to go to CP now! I really would like to go on the 4th, but I can not go because I will not have my season pass in time (that is if I get a season pass this summer because my Dad dislikes this idea). :( Guess I have to wait until May 12th to go. :( Well at least I will be meeting Harpo on May 12th and will have some of my friends along with me. :D
TTD looks like a good ride. I wish I could have been at Media Day along with other CoasterBuzzers.

IEATPASTE001, Thank you for the offer but I have my own transportation (1997 Ford Taurus) and have a driver's licence. Want to meet with me and my college friends at my house. The time we will be leaving is not set, but it will be early (something like 6:30-7:00 AM) If so, I will give the address to you via PM or e-mail.
The Detroit Free Press had some TTD Media Day coverage this morning. The link is here (http://www.freep.com/entertainment/newsandreviews/drag2_20030502.htm). The second sentence in the first paragraph decribes me the most.
How do I get to the Soak City parking lot? It would be much appericately if someone would answer this as I want to use the Magnum Enterance this year.

Yuck... talk about things that really suck... LOL good for you IEATPASTE... you get to be there this weekend. looks like the first time I will be able to get to CP will be May 15-16. Though I also understand it could be alot worse.... I'm ready to go now.... finally got ajob here in good ole, nothing-to-do Lansing, MI... (speaks to himself 'come on college... start up.') Oh yeah, if this little post makes no sense, it is because i am jotting it down AT work, trying to kill time for the last 5 minutes of the day. See ya all later. And um... 4-5 days to WW comes out... depending on your store situation. i'm done rambling, ready to go home... peace to all of you Opening day Cedar Point goers.... hope dragster is cool.

I am just going to start a little day by day countdown until I go to CP and get to ride TTD. So this means I have 7 and 1/4 days until I go. I will be talking how my day went/ is going, what I have done to get ready for CP, and what I have done to pass the time
This morning was particully difficult to get through becuase I kept thinking about things like it's 9:30 AM, park just opened for JCCers and resort guest; 10:00 AM, park just opened for everyone else; and wishing I could be with Harpo, IEATPASTE001, OhiocoasteR, and one of college. I played RCT for a couple of hours and then ate lunch. On the bright side, I got to watch the Detroit Pistons blowout the Orlando Magic. They advanced to the 2nd Round of the NBA Playoffs. I then spent the rest of the day studing for my Tuesday final exam.
Tommarrow I am going to see if AAA has discount CP tickets.

Ok first and foremost, if you didn't go for opening day you didn't miss anything. long long long long lines for TTD, but everything else was relatively short, even Disater Transport's line was moving fast! i rode 14 out of the 16 coasters they have at CP but i can only ride 15 out of 16 cause i can't ride Jr. Gemeni. First ridew of the day was magnum since we were right by it then we hit the biggest the baddest coaster ever....Woodstock's Express! then Mine Ride and after that i forget the order but i hit every coaster i could ride except TTD. I got to ride The MFer last. i rode yellow train, Front Seat Front Car! oh my god was it fun and fast! all in all i was happy with my trip and i am going again this friday but only to by lazy and walk around the park, not ridding everything, but on the 12th i most likely will be going with Rollerfreak and riding TTD! woo hoo! well take care and have fun. See you at the point!

IEATPASTE. The question on all our minds, or at least mine, is was TTD running fairly consistently? Or was it plagued with bugs as most new rides were? How long was the line out of curiosity?
rollerfreak83
05-06-2003, 01:47 AM
Good news, I found out that AAA is selling CP discount tickets for 32.50 USD! Should be getting them later this week. I am going to buy my ticket as well as my friends tickets on Friday. I spent the rest of the day relaxing or studing for Tuesday's final.

TTD was not consistant to CP's standards. it is right now the lowest capacity ride in the park. with only 3 trains running and intamin just handing over TTD to CP not too long ago, made for poor capacity. it did have some breakdowns but just about every coaster has those. The ride op's did as best they can but with a new ride like this it is hard to do with minimal training. but i would have to say by the end of this month maybe a little later, all six trains will be on the track with all 5 cars. yeah right now they only have 5 trains total, the yellow train i believe it is in switzerland.

Just reading that makes me sick. From the photos I have seen, I like Wildcat's purple track. But it will take me awhile to get used to Projectile Vomit Green color on the supports. I would have prefered a Forest Green as the color of the supports.
Nothing really happened in terms of preperation for CP. I had my hardest final today. Hopefully the Pistons will beat the Sixers tonight. Everything in terms of school is downhill from here. :D I look forward meet IEATPASTE001 and Harpo that day. I look forward to riding TTD.

Not a bad drive home. Took me a bit longer, as we stopped for dinner at Subway, then took the Turnpike. Of course, whether you take US 2 or I-80, there's still the encounter with the Freeway of Perpetual Construction, i.e., I-280. This is NOT an exaggeration: in my 34 years of going to Cedar Point, there has not been even 1 year when there wasn't construction on I-280 for at least a portion of the summer. I recall one summer when the construction ended early, hence the road was fully open for the bonus weekends, but that's the best I've seen in all these years. Scary, eh?
Anyway, had a great time! It was a real pleasure meeting you!
Of course, I'll be back to The Point on Monday and Tuesday. Depending on circumstances, I might throw in Saturday and Sunday.
As for later in the summer, just let me know when you plan to be there -- Provided that my schedule permits, I'm always glad to get to The Point!

Hey, IEATPASTE/rollerfreak. If I get THE job I am chasing after tomorrow, I plan to be a big old (edits response-mean head) and drop this current job like a bad habit. I have family in PA and we use I-280 to get to the Ohio Turnpike then take the Turnpike to Youngstown which would be old exit 15 (not sure what the new number is). I agree with you Harpo, summers are bad. The rest of the year is fine. Has anyone ever been stopped by the drawbridge? I have not ever been stopped since I moved from Texas to Michigan in 1990. My grandparents were stopped only once in 1990 or 1991.
There were a few things that went on in terms of CP preperation. I got some of the money from my friends to pay for the AAA discount tickets. IEATPASTE001 and I worked out some details on travel arrangements. I worked out a travel issue with one of my friends. I had a final exam (Computer Science 1 - teaches console C++) that was really easy. What do you expect? I am a self-proclaimed Computer Geek. I am not sure which I am more excited about: riding TTD, meeting IEATPASTE001 and Harpo; spending time with my friends outside of school, or watching The Matrix: Reloaded next week. It's sensory overload next week.

I've been stopped at the drawbridge a couple of times, but it's been years since that happened. I don't recall which year was the last time. The construction for this year, however, is replacing the drawbridge -- they're building a large permanent bridge above it. Looking at what they've done so far, one word pops into my mind: Zilwaukee. It looks like a similar structure. If this project goes as well as the Zilwaukee bridge, it should be ready somewhere around 2021, give or take a century.

Really did not do much today to get ready for Cedar Point. I called my one of college friends to get the money for the tickets which I already got. I will be meeting him tomarrow(Sunday) to get the money. I will also do a dry run of picking up my friends tomarrow. I will also be checking the major parts of my car to make sure they are ready.

I had gotten there Saturday morning, really early, to ride TTD. Bear in mind that at this time nly 4 of the 6 trains were running, #5 was ont he transfer track and number 6 was nowhere to be seen. Dragster is a very interesting ride, and I am sure will be great once it runs as it was intended. But as can be expected it had problems on saturday. I got in line as the park opened-the ride didnt start running until 10:00 am, and man it was a long one. At the point I got in line, it was expected to have a 3 hour wait. There were numerous block brake problems, as well as problems on the magnertic brakes on the return side. Surprisingly about 2.5 hours later I did get on it, and it is an intense one. The launch is incredible. It is so powerful, the g's actually do push back the skin on your face. The downward spiral is unbelievable. The ride is fast. In my opinion, the greatest fear of the ride was anticipating the launch itself. The problem with this ride is the obvious capacity problems, which can be corrected with more experience from the ride-ops. The second thing I was dissatisfied with is the fact the soundtrack and the christmas tree wasnt working-to me this made the ride just a launched coaster with no personality. The final thing is that CP hasnt installed the Christmas tree lights on the tower as of yet. So if I was to rank my favorite CP coasters to date, 1-5. 1) MF; 2)Raptor; 3)TTD; 4)Magnum; 5) Mean Streak.
Harpo
05-12-2003, 12:13 AM
Good news. The Christmas tree was mostly functional today. (Two lights were out on the right side, but the rest was working.) They've started the installation of the Christmas tree lights on the tower, but there's still quite a bit of work to do there. They were running 5 trains today, but there were many delays, largely due to winds exceeding 60 MPH. Regardless, I managed to get on it -- what a rush! I find it interesting that, in the picture, everyone looks nervous except me. I'm smiling and waving at the first camera, and giving thumbs-up to the second camera. I've even got the photo to prove it! (It'll be on my Cedar Point Virtual Tour website once I get the chance to scan it! Of course, my scanner's in Michigan, and I'm currently in Ohio, so it'll have to wait a bit -- my arms aren't long enough to reach that far.) I just hope I can ride it again over the next two days of my trip!
As for those winds, they were strong enough that the following rides were shut down all day: Raptor, Space Spiral, Millennium Force, Magnum, Gemini, Mine Ride, Mean Streak, Sky Ride, Demon Drop. In my 34 years of visiting Cedar Point, I have NEVER before seen Mine Ride down due to wind. (Other reasons, yes, but never due to wind.) It is also the first time I've seen Mean Streak or Gemini closed due to wind. For the other rides, I've seen it before. The winds were steadily greater than 60 MPH. Much to my surprise, Power Tower was open -- at the top of that ride, the winds were mind-boggling! I was also a bit surprised to see Wildcat open -- the cars were just barely making it past the first dip. After that point, the wind actually helped push the cars along, so it made for a faster-than-usual trip on Wildcat, and that was fun!
Paste: Got your phone message. Tuesday's fine. See you then! Oh, and you may be interested to note: If you recall, I asked my CP buddy about attractions built in '73 and '74, and he suggested asking the patio person at Coasters. Well, the answer still remains a mystery. She pulled out her guide, and there was nothing listed for those years. She made a couple of phone calls, and still couldn't find an answer. Being that I was 6 and 7 years old when making those visits, oddly enough, I don't recall what changed at the time. Unfortunately, apparently Cedar Point doesn't recall what changed, either! Oh well!
For everyone reading: you may be interested in knowing that the employees today were exceptionally friendly. That's one of the things that helps make Cedar Point special. When walking into a ride, try saying "Hello" and smiling to the ride attendants. At many parks, they either don't respond at all, or they give a little grunt. At Cedar Point today, they were all responding in a very pleasant fashion -- something I expect from Cedar Point, and usually get, but which tends to be unusual at other parks. It's just one of those little things that helps make the visit special. (Also, America Rocks at the Red Garter Saloon was an excellent show. It amazes me that Cedar Point is better at shows than Paramount, where Paramount has an entire movie history from which to draw!) In spite of the rough weather, and so many rides closed due to weather, I was smiling so much today that my cheeks started hurting. The staff was fabulous, and they deserve heaps of praise.

TTD is having set back on theme. the lights were shipped late, thats what i get from asking around. the smaller launch tree by the coaster arrived on the morning of opening day. i don't think they will be lighting the little tree before the tower lights are installed. the sixth train will be back soon. it decided to go and see the rest of the USA before giving rides for the rest of its life! ;) hehe

The weather on May 12th has changed my plans. Unfortunately, light showers combined with 20+ MPH winds and 50 degree temperatures makes for a very cold and bad day. Tuesday looks better, with only light showers between 10 AM - Noon and the rest of the day partly cloudy It is still going to be cold and some what windy, but at least it will not be raining most of the day. The sun might even pop out in the afternoon. :D
Harpo, thank you for changing to Tuesday. I just did not think the weather was worth going to the Po!nt on Monday. So I called IEATPASTE001 to see what he thought (actully my friend, Brett, who is going with us called). Brett said that IEATPASTE001 was thinking the same thing about the weather. At which that point I remembered about the time set for Monday that IEATPASTE001 and I were to meet. He then said he would call you.

Harpo, you went on Sunday to? I was ther on Sunday but hell I didnt realize the wind was that bad. We finally got on WT, Mantis... and even rdoe some flat rides-a phenomenon I rarely do at CP. Thought about getting in line for TTD again, but it didn seem to be running as well Sunday. On Sunday, I did see that they had the MPH reading working, on the building where they house the hydraulic launching mechanism. See TTD is odd to me, I like the ride, but I really cant see myself waiting in line another 3 hrs or so, knowing how short of a ride it is... LOL, doesnt seem to efficient.

I had a blast yesterday. :D It was great to finally meet Harpo and IEATPASTE001. I met IEATPASTE001 shortly after 6 AM and left shortly after 6:30 AM. We got to the Po!nt around 9:00 AM and parked near Gemini. I was a bit concerned that the parking attendant in the front booth did not ask us why we were heading toward the Soak City lot. I met Harpo outside the Magnum queue. Harpo and IEATPASTE001 got in at 9:30 AM while my friend and me had to wait. 15 minutes later Harpo and IEATPASTE001 came back because Harpo had a resort guest pass and let my friend and I in the park! :D Thank you so much Harpo! We headed towards TTD and found it was down while Cedar Po!nt was shooting a commercial so we headed towards Millennium Force. MF seemed to be more intense than it was when I went last year.
Harpo, what was the order of the coasters that we rode?
More later, got to mow the lawn now.

I consider myself a coaster conisseur of sorts- I love many of them, granted I dont have as many under my belt as the likes of Harpo, etc. But what am I missing about Dragster? The ride wasnt all that to me. It was just a huge launch up, turn, over, piral, done... MF is insane.... TTD? Just didnt register in my list of great coasters... it was a fun ride, but I would not likely spend time in it if the wait is over 1 hour.
IEATPASTE001
05-15-2003, 12:19 AM
Well i mean it only goes 120 mph and it only goes a mere 420 ft in the air, yeah a real sleeper. yeah they are just figures but the few seconds your up there the sight is awesome. the drop on TTD is insane, yeah it isn't the longest, but what else could they have added to keep your interest? i can't think of much.
raptor4928
05-15-2003, 04:47 AM
If they made the ride more like Xcelerator at Knott's, then that would have been a better ride IMHO. But then again, for this specific ride, they couldnt really call it 'Dragster' and have a design like that. Besides if they had a similar design to Xcelerator, then you get a similar ride to MF, which once again IMHO, is a much better ride than TTD. Finally, if they could tone down the wait, in essence, it not be a 4 hour wait for a 17 second ride, have some consistent launch consistency, (and yes I know this will come in time) that would make it almost worth it. And finally, if they had ALL the appropriate theming elements for the ride up-and-running, THAT would make it a better ride. Sorry if I am not impressed by a launch, some speed, a turn around and a brake run...
IEATPASTE001
05-15-2003, 11:53 AM
Luanch, some speed? what are you talking about. the launch is insane. it doesn't seem real! even if all the lights and the smoke out of the back of the train was working i wouldn't have liked it anymore, they had set back for themeing cause they got the little launch tree on opening day and barely got it up for opening day. it has been way too windy to do any kind of extensive tower work like hanging lights on said tower then wiring it, would be a heck of a job with 60 mph winds. part of the problem is that they need the 6th train back and they need better software, it is kinda buggy. after that it will be up to 1500 pph. i didn't mind waiting 3.5 hours to get on TTD i would have waited longer. i just can't see how people don't think this ride isn't special. it is twice the speed limit then most ohio roads, if it was wider the ambassador bridge could fit thru it. The version of TTD that we got was not the first design, it almost went thru magnum, it was going to be the longest coaster in the world, but i am glad it isn't, over banked turns aren't the coolest thing on earth, and i don't think they could have put them in without major structure change to some other surrounding rides. it would have had to go thru power tower,Iron Dragon and Mantis and maybe even the MFer would have had to be modified, and also it would have been too much like Excellorator. As we all know Cedar Fair doesn't want to Clone their rides.

Hey I am sorry man, I just state my opinion here. I can respect your love for Dragster. I think I was just disappointed when all the theming elements weren't present when I went on last Saturday. As a Drag Racing fan, I was looking for a drag racing experience int his ride which wasn't present yet. And yes I will admit the launch is awesome-it keeps pushing you all the way until the base of the tower. I saw the launch mechanism, the cable, down at the end of the track, where they tell what speed the train was traveling at-still I wish I knew how it was launched. Just out of curiousity, which color train did you ride? I sat in the back, 2nd row forward of the engine on the navy bluish train.
IEATPASTE001
05-15-2003, 02:13 PM
Very front of the Green train.
i just can't see how some lights would let someone down, thats all. i think the Drag racing-esque experience was there. i thought that the tree was light by sunday. yeah the tower wasn't but that is really for everyone else. i think they should put somewhere on the onride photo of your highest speed from the launch.
the thing that was really cool was waiting to get launched looking at the tall structure, thinking hmmm in a matter of seconds i will be going up that....and then down that lol.

05-15-2003, 02:28 PM
I certainly respect raptor's opinion about TTD, but I will have to "side" with IEATPASTE001 on this one. There is not one coaster that I have ridden that duplicates what I felt on TTD on Tuesday. I was literally off my seat and doubled over the lap bar. Not even MF can do that and it has one of the most intense drops that I have ever experienced. Note that I was in row 8 of the black cherry train. The Christmas tree was working correctly and the sound effects were also working. Cedar Point needs to work on the efficiency of the ride. TTD would launch two trains about a minute apart. Then did two more trains launching a minute apart after a 2-5 minute gap between the second and third train. This will be improved over the summer as the Ride-Ops get better.
IEATPASTE001

I wasn't trying to disrespect raptor, i was just trying to figure out how this ride could dissapoint. I mean the ride itself works! i know of many rides that weren't open on their projected date *cough* X *cough*, yeah the lights aren't up and the smoke machine hasn't been on since opening day probably, but atleast it isn't a $25 million tease that no one will ride until a year after its expected date.

I dont think I am making my opinion clear on TTD. By no means am I saying the ride sucks donkey butt. If we wanted to talk about those kinds of coasters at CP, let's talk about Cedar Creek Mine ride-once again, my opinion. What I am trying to say is that without the working theme options for TTD, I believe it kind of took away from the TTD experience. I was just kind of looking forward to seeing and experienceing a good theme ride from Cedar point I suppose. And the ride will be awesome once everything is up and running in my opinion. Perhaps I didnt give it due credit by saying it was just a lunch, speed, turn, etc... it was definitely more than that. And the hand chopping effect on the spiral made me pull my hands in... It is a good ride, I'll ride it again. I am just saying, TTD, at this time,is not my number #1 steel coaster at CP, however, TTD is good.
Okay and i hate to get off topic here, but let's discuss WT. I was at the park Sunday, in line for WT with my roomie's Dad. Have the seats kind of shrunk? Let me explain. They kicked my roomie's dad off the ride. Apparantly BEFORE you put the restraint down on Twister, you have to easily be able to latch the seatbelt. Now bear in mind once the restraint was down, he could get the seatbelt latched just fine. But as many older men, he has a beer gut... so it took putting the restraint down before he could latch it. We all never had that problem before-so is that a new procedure with Twister? He had no problem getting on MF or TTD, both Intamin creations as well...

OK, I must admit -- I find this one very puzzling. Being that the safety belt is attached to the restraint, it is impossible to fasten the belt before the restraint is pulled down. Now, depending on the speed of your operator, the restraints may not have been LOCKED until after the belt was fastened, but that's an entirely different issue.
No, the seats are not smaller. However, there is new padding on the platform, making it a bit easier to get in and out of the ride. Instead of the ride "shrinking", is it possible that the size of the rider grew? That's been known to happen, you know!
As for your opinion about TTD: Everyone's turned on by different experiences. Personally, I love a tight, twisting coaster, and I love the feel of high speed, hence Raptor, Millennium Force, and TTD all strike me as great coasters. I've previously maintained that my favorite 3 coasters were at Cedar Point, being Raptor, Millennium Force, and Magnum. Now, I can say the park has my favorite 4 coasters, as TTD is easily added.
But, I'm getting off the point. (No pun intended -- sorry about that.) Clearly, the high speed is not as great a thrill for you as other coaster factors. That's one of the marvelous things about Cedar Point -- it has so many different coaster experiences that there's something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what their preferences.
(By the way, watch what you say about Mine Ride -- I like that old coaster! It's my chiropractor -- fixes my back to being like new! I learned about that property of the ride while working at The Point, as I often woke up with a sore back due to rather poor mattresses in the dorm!)

Hmmm, what was the order?
I remember from opening day because that's when I updated my Coaster Log. But I didn't pay as much attention to the order on Tuesday. Anyway, let me see if I can't pull something out of this ol' rusty brain!
Before I remembered about the resort card, Paste & I hit Magnum. Then we checked out TTD, but didn't ride because it was down. Then we hit Millennium Force. I believe we then did Tin Lizard, er, Iron Dragon. We checked out Raptor, but it was down, so we hit Blue Streak instead. Then we did Wicked Twister. While in the neighborhood, we also did Disaster Transport. I believe that was followed by Corkscrew as we headed towards the back of the park. Then I think we did Magnum, but I don't recall for sure. Regardless, Gemini followed, then was the really scary Woodstock's Express. We checked out Mean Streak, but it went down as we were waiting in line. So, we did White Water Landing, followed by Mine Ride. After grabbing some fries, we went back towards the front of the park. I got some Tylenol for my foot at first aid, then I believe we did Wildcat. After that, I believe we did Raptor. That was followed by Demon Drop, then ice cream, then a walk down Frontier Trail to get back to Mean Streak. After Mean Streak, we hopped in line for Top Thrill Dragster at about 5:15, getting on the ride at about 8:45. I'm still trying to get my ears back to the sides of my head after that launch!
Anyway, I'm not 100% certain of that order, but I think that's pretty close.

Gee, I didn't burn at all! (Strange but true -- my skin has a tendency to look red after a day in the sun, but there's often no sign of redness by morning. I'm thinking I may have a tad bit of Native American blood! OK, so where's my casino??? :D )
Don't know when MiA will be this year, but hopefully not too far off. First things first, however... I've got 11 states to go charging into for my 12 day, 19 park 2003 Coaster Cruise! Wahoo! Every trip has to have at least one "failsafe" park -- a park where I KNOW I'll have a great time. For the past 3 years, that park was Cedar Point. Unfortunately, for this year, CP is not on the route. Fortunately, Worlds of Fun is on the route, hence that's my 2003 failsafe.
Don't know if I'll have time to check this board over the next few weeks. If I can't, well then, see y'all later! (Well, this trip is heading south -- gotta get into the spirit, you know!)

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! thats how i started my day, today was my thrid and final day at cedar point and it was the best, even tho i didn't get on alot of rides i did get on TTD and got my girl over her fear of coasters. on saturday it rained and not many rides were open, so i only got a few rides on the littler coasters. Sunday, i got on all the coasters many times, except for Top Thrill Dragster, but today i got on, i ran with the bulls and got on the thrid train with guest on them of the day! Due to my forgetful ness i forgot my shoes at home and had to wear my sandals all weekend long and today i hurt too much to be there any longer then 2 pm, but i got on my new favorite ride and the rest of this summer is gonna be awesome, cause now my girl will ride all the coasters with me, this is her first year of really riding coasters and on saturday she took her first lap on millennium force and loved it, so we rode again, then this morning i was so proud that she got on TTD, (Yes Harpo my Nikki who was affraid of WT now rides any coaster in any order, whenever!) we got off and she wanted to go again but the line was over 3 hours so we went on a few more rides and ended on Magnum, all in all it was a great weekend and a great way to end a trip to CP, nothing like facing your fear and Kickin' it in the butt, never to return! Now if Xman and i and her and Harpo go and others we will have a great day riding coasters and havin' a ton of fun at the Point!

we were thinking of heading up around the 15th thru the 21st, ie leave on one of those days, come back possibly 2 days later, so if we went up on the 15th we would hit MiA stay the night after riding ST, wake up eat, go to MiA for a awhile, comeback for our last nights stay, wake up on the 17th and if we feel like it hit MiA for a few hours and leave by 3, it is a couple hour drive home, and i don't wanna be all tired when driving, that kinda sucks when you wake up dead while driving home ya know! ;) but yeah when more plans are solid i will let you know more.

What the heck's going on? I go away for a couple weeks to ride a few rides (for the listeners keeping score at home, that'd be 67 coasters in 19 parks, bringing the box score totals to 392 coasters in 113 parks since January 2000), and when I get back, I find Dragster's having all sorts of problems, a person who failed to follow the rules is flying off of a coaster at an Indiana park (and a park I really like, I might add), and the weather is still cold! Gee whiz, do I have to stay around here all the time to keep things on track (so to speak)?
As if that's not bad enough, I couldn't even give Six Flags the award for Most Inept Operation for this trip! (However, they did manage to run a very close second!) Has the whole world gone topsy-turvy? :bulb:
For those who are curious, the 2003 Coaster Cruise had some nice surprises, and it had some disappointments.
Among the nice surprises:
Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. Very nice park, despite it being the only rainy day on the trip! I definitely recommend visiting this park. First time I've been coaster riding and spelunking in the same park on the same day!
Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO. The park was what I expected (I visited it two years ago), but it was a nice surprise to run into and get a chance to have a brief chat with Dick Kinzel, CEO of Cedar Fair. He's an exceptionally nice person! I just wish we'd had more time to talk, but he's a busy guy, and I had a plane to catch!
Magic Springs in Hot Spring, AR. Delightful little park with a good woodie (apparently transplanted from the now-defunt Boardwalk and Baseball in Florida) in a very scenic area.
Visionland in Bessemer, AL. It was almost unnerving how nice those people were! I had to double-check to make sure that I wasn't captured by aliens and taken to a friendlier planet! :D
Zippin Pippin at Libertyland in Memphis, TN. The park is nothing much, but this really old coaster (One of the oldest operating coasters, having opened in 1923 according to ACE, or 1915 according to RCDB -- apparently the ride was moved to it's current location in 1923) is lots of fun! Their recording claims it's the oldest operating coaster, but I know that Leap The Dips in Pennsylvania is older. I really like the old ones, when coaster designing was more art than science.
Then, of course, there had to be some disappointments:
Joyland in Topeka, KS. I was really looking forward to their coaster, but the information I had was wrong -- the park was closed when I arrived, and wouldn't be opening for a couple more days. D'Oh! Of course, that was after failed attempts to contact the park by phone and email to verify their hours. I couldn't reach them, so I had to go with the information I found on the Web. Oh well.
Closed Coasters. Orient Express was closed at Worlds of Fun. Fortunately, that was the one park I was able to visit twice on the trip (being the city where I flew in and out), and Orient Express was open on my return visit, so it worked out. Ant Farm Express and Bug Out were closed at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA. Maintenance was working on them, but they weren't ready by the time I had to leave, and they didn't have an estimate as to when the rides would be fixed. Mayan Mindbender at Six Flags Astroworld was closed. No excuses here: that ride and several others were closed due to lack of staff (according to the sign at the entrance gate). Boomerang at Six Flags Fiesta Texas was closed, along with several other rides and their water park section (on a day when the temperature was 102 degrees), again, apparently due to lack of staff. Nightmare coaster was closed at Frontier City in Oklahoma City (Six Flags' world headquarters), as were several other rides. Not too good for a really small park.
Slow on the draw: Saw a coaster operator sleeping at Frontier City, but his phone rang as I was getting ready to take his picture, thus waking him up.
Still here, anyway: Had a blowout on the road driving north through Texas. I've never actually been driving a car in which a tire audibly went "boom" before! Oh, and my deepest appreciation to the bus driver that nearly ran me over as I was trying to safely maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder! I'm hopeful that there's a special place in the afterlife for nitwits like that!
Then there were the oddities:
Jammin': In what certainly gets the Most Inept Operation award, the ride operators for Cannonball Run in Gulf Shores, AL were fiddling around with their guitars rather than running the ride. On the plus side, they didn't bother collecting the ride tickets, hence I got to ride more times that I expected! They didn't want to be bothered with unloading the train, so they asked if anyone wanted to get off, and, when no one responded, they sent it again, and again, and again!
Hail's Bells: Following a wedding that I attended, I had to pull to the side of the road to wait out the golf-ball sized hail. It sounded like it was ripping the roof right off the car, and like it was going to shatter the windshield! Thank goodness it was a rental car!
Q-Bert? No, Q-Bot. I broke down and "rented" one at Six Flags Over Texas. Good thing, too. Turns out that park was the second slowest park I've ever visited, often taking more than 2 to 3 minutes to turn around a train, while only running one train on tracks where they could have been running more. (Six Flags Over Georgia maintains the record for slowest, however.)
Bathtime: Sure enough, there are hot springs in Hot Springs, AR. Taking a little hike that morning, I passed waterways that were steaming due to the heat of the water. (And, that heat could easily be felt, too!)
Do we know what's in our park? I'm always on the lookout for good t-shirts for coasters and/or parks that I enjoy. At Six Flags New Orleans, they had a t-shirt for The Jester. Only one minor problem... The Jester wasn't the coaster pictured on the t-shirt. I guess they figured no one would notice.
Scared of our own park! At Dixie Landin' in Baton Rouge, LA, the folks at the front gate were fascinated by my trip, and wanted to hear more! One of the ticket sellers indicated that her son wanted her to take him on Ragin' Cajun (a standard Vekoma boomerang coaster), but she was too afraid. So, she wanted me to come back after riding it to give her an "expert" opinion!
Overall, it was a great trip! The biggest disappointment, however, came on the final day: I had to go home! Ah well, all great trips must draw to a close.
Hmmm, now where should I head next year???

Harpo your back! Glad to see you had an awesome time! Did ya hear Nikki rode Millennium Force and Dragster, She rode Dragster her first ride of the day when she rode it! Awesome huh!?! I mean she was scared of Wicked Twister and now she can't wait to go back and ride Millennium Force and Dragster!
I hope to get an email from ya too!

Yep, I read that about Nikki. Give her my congratulations!
Reminds me a little of the story of a 15 year old geek who was terrified of roller coasters. But, he kept a promise to a friend to ride Gemini. 21 years later, that geek has been on more than 392 different coasters.
So, will Nikki now be the one to drag you all around the country to ride coasters? :D
As long as she drags him out west. He really needs an Xing. Nikki might even like it too. And Harpo why don't you follow them. That would be a gret day in the park.

Has anyone created any of Cedar Points rides past and present on RCT2 or if anyone has tried to create a Cedar Point Senario or even Cleveland's old Euclid Beach rides?
Diane
Accually Paste has made a good MFer. He even made it as a LIM and as a MultiD copaster. they are all pretty cool. I have seen some TTD's around but they can't be made totaly accurate as the LIM coaster has a height limit.

Hey Harpo, my wicked twister remake has the little jail thing in it! hehe.

Note: The map image above has not yet been updated for 2003 -- I discovered that my park map is ripped, so I have to get a new one on my next visit! However, the pictures and information throughout the tour have been updated for 2003. If you're looking for the new Top Thrill Dragster, you'll find it on the Gemini Midway.
Why dont you just go here (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/map/) and download the map again?

Been there, rode that! :D
Actually, sorry to say it, but I really wasn't all that impressed with X. Maybe my expectations were set too high, but I expected better. Really, I'd rather ride Goliath, or Viper, or Riddler's Revenge. Actually, when in the L.A. area, I also prefer GhostRider and Xcelerator.
I enjoyed X, but it just didn't "speak" to me. I've said before that I believe a great coaster essentially tells a story (although not necessarily in words). That's why Raptor remains as tied for my favorite coaster. It's much smaller than many that are out there, but Raptor speaks volumes to me. GhostRider also speaks to me, as does Wildcat at Hersheypark.
I wish I could really put it into words, but I can't. It all relates to a feeling. Additionally, I'm quite certain rides provide different feelings for different people, hence a ride that fails to speak to me may be very eloquent for someone else. I suspect that may be the case with you and X. If so, enjoy it! However, I'll stick to Raptor! :)

I could do that, but, in my opinion, copying it off of Cedar Point's website is cheating!
Besides, I do quite a bit of processing with the map in order to set up the regions corresponding to my breakdown of the park. At this point, I have a good map in hand, but I just haven't had the time to do the processing. It takes a few hours to get it just the way I want it. With luck, I'll find some time this weekend. However, I'm also looking into refinancing my mortgage, so that's taking up quite a bit of my time, too!
However, thanks for the suggestion! (Admittedly, I've been tempted in the past, but I just can't bring myself to cheat like that! ;) )

Simple -- downloading it from their site means that someone else has done all the work. It's taking the easy way out. Personally, I find it more rewarding if I "earn" the image by having to work for it. (Of course, it'd be even more rewarding if I drew my own image, but I just don't have the artistic ability for that! Bummer!)
Besides, from a legal perspective, they have copyright notices for the content of their website. Oddly enough, they do not have a copyright notice in their printed map. So, from that standpoint, it is more appropriate in the eyes of the law to scan the map from a source without a copyright notice than to take it from their copyrighted website.

Say, Paste, I was wondering...
Just what, precisely, is an "anit-drug?" I can almost hear one of the Beverly Hillbillies talking about a terrible storm that beat them up. "...anit drug me clear aaacrouse the crick, where I done sawed that possum! Whooo dawgie!"
Seriously, however...
I know I saw it somewhere, and I'll probably go hunting for it tomorrow (I'm just too tired tonight!), but does anyone have a list of the politicians that are co-sponsoring Markey's current bill? I'm planning on sending a letter to Markey, with a carbon copy to each of the co-sponsors, letting them know of my experiences. If they choose to listen, I think I might be able to provide them with some good insight that could get them to quit looking for the easy (and, I believe, wrong) answers. Based on my travels, I believe there are some potential issues, but Markey and Company seem to be ignoring them in favor of things that are more "commercial," such as focusing on G forces, which most people don't understand, hence it's an easy way to get people to panic. It's always easier to get people in a frenzy about things they don't fully understand, as it's easy to slip in half-truths and make them sound remarkably bad.
As an example, I once received an article talking about banning dihydrogen monoxide. It spoke of all the terrible damage this hideous substance has caused, and all the deaths for which it is responsible. I showed this article to people I know who do not have a scientific background, and they were astounded that such a dangerous substance was allowed to be sold on the open market, no prescription required. Of course, they felt a little silly when I told them the common name for dihydrogen monoxide. For those who do not know, that's a scientific representation for the formula for... (drumroll please)... water.
My point, of course, is that the article did a wonderful job of demonstrating how people can be easily swayed to get upset about things they don't entirely understand, and I suspect that's what Markey and his cronies are relying upon. If I'm wrong, and they seriously are concerned about the well-being of amusement park visitors, I'm hopeful that my letter to them may help them find the right focus rather than the "oh-so-evil G forces."
If you've got the names, and even a preferred address, that'd be a great help! It'd be even greater if, in addition to posting them here (for others who are interested), you could send me an email copy. But, like I said earlier, if I'm feeling a bit peppier tomorrow, I'll go searching for that info myself -- it'd just be a help if someone here already knows it.
Thanks!

Well X did really speak to me. I don't know what it was. Perhaps it was the view of the park when riding it at night the very first time. That is such a great view, or the first drop 215ft and your looking right at the ground. WOW. It could have been the flips that the seats do. I guess it was really all of them. I did however have a not so great ride lat time. Every time until the last ride I was on the same side of the train. loading from the stairs side. This last visit I was loaded from the Viper side and it was a bit rougher. In fact I had to hold on to my shades, a first for me on a coaster. From what I gather from other rides is that it the bad side of the train to ride on. It has not ever really been a smooth ride on that side. So from now on I will insist on going up the stairs and not the ramp. But hey we don't all like the same kinds of coasters, and the opions I have of X are my own, I just want others to eXpeirence the eXtreme for themselves. Then make up there own minds about it.

Ah, yes, I'd pretty much figured that out. But, my warped sense of humor was coming into play. To show the inspiration for that warped sense of humor, I'd like to encourage you to proof-read your sentence under your ID! Frightfully sorry -- I was attempting to make a humorous hint at the typo.
By the way, to everyone in or near Michigan...
I don't know for certain yet, but I'm considering popping over to Michigan's Adventure on June 21. Of course, it'll depend on weather forecasts, and if I'm able to finish my yard work during the week, etc., but I'm hoping to be able to ride some coasters that day. Interesting to note: when driving home from work yesterday, taking I-75 north near Detroit, I saw a billboard for Michigan's Adventure. It's the first time I've spotted one in the Detroit area.
Anyway, if anyone might be interested in an MiA getaway next Saturday to play for a day (hey hey hey), send me a note, OK? (My brain is starting to rebel over that last sentence. Must be time to go to bed!)

Anyone know the latest on TTD? A news item on Virtual Midway said that TTD reopened on Saturday, but CP's website still has the "TTD isn't running" letter on the status report page. I've also been watching on the webcams and haven't seen any activity around the ride--you can usually tell from the above shot if the bleachers are empty that it's not running. Did it reopen on Saturday and then have more problems? Or is the news item wrong and it was just testing and not really open? Just curious...

Dragster was testing today, and i got to see the new nosecones for the trains.looks more arrow-dynamic! (no pun intended ;) ) looked like they were looking over the sensors, maybe they are going to inspect it one more time piece by piece before it gets back up and running. also, the theme to the trains should be coming back. when who knows but they put the metal pieces that hold the engines on the back of the train, that is a good sign. so hopefully it will be open this weekend, so my friend will get a ride before he goes into the army. if not oh well we are going to ride every other ride, or maybe we will go to MiA with Harpo.

I went to Cedar Point yesterday - June 19 - and TTD was running at about 1 PM. It ran until about 5:30, when a car didn't make it all the way up, and came back down. That was a sight to see, let me tell you....
I didn't get to ride it because we had a check-in time (couldn't get out of it) at three and we had to leave at seven (early, i know) - but it looked awesome.
I found this buffet like thing - if you go at like three o'clock - ten bucks gets you all the food you want, and it is delicious food, from pasta, to hamburgers, to pizza, to fried chicken, to a crapload of desserts - It was great. No need to get the overpriced food everywhere else then.
TTD didn't get many cars through, sadly, because it kept breaking down. One would think that if they can build it, they can fix it - but nooooo...

Glad to hear you discovered Midway Market, the best food deal at Cedar Point. Actually, it's the best food deal I've seen at any amusement park. Did you get some of the real ice cream? (Not that soft-serve nonsense, but the real thing!)
For those not familiar with Midway Market, it's hard to miss -- it's on the Main Midway, close to Raptor. Beverages are included with your meal. My biggest problem with Midway Market is that I usually eat so much in there that I can't even bend over to tie my shoes afterwards!

Ok Michigan's Adventure, is a super small park. I didn't think i was going to have that much fun, just because of the lack of choice. But instead i had an awesome time with 2 good friends. We rode Corkscrew first, that was really fun. Then we hit Mad Mouse, it was my first wildmouse coasters, i rather liked it. Then we rode the coaster that i went there to ride! Shivering Timbers! That is the best wooden coaster, ev-AR!It was nice and smooth, but has its roughness to it that all woodens do. we then rode Wolverine's Bobcat, fun little woosen coaster. after that we ate some food, rode Zack's Zoomer, and Big Dipper. we headed back to ST for one more lap before we went to get into our swim suits. took a spin on the flying trapize(sp?) and Falling Star. The water park is awesome i could spend all day in there! well thats about it. next month i will have pics, i am going again with my girlfriend. yay! MiA is a blast!

What, Paste, you don't like the feeling of having your face sandblasted (waterblasted?) at 93 MPH? Some people pay big bucks to have their skin exfoliated! Riding MF in the rain, you can get that exfoliation right down to the bone for a much lower cost! :D

Here is an interview with Dick Kinzel. (http://discover.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.jhtml?prgDate=06/27/2003&prgId=15) Some interesting points, and he said Disater Transport was a lemon, i think the lemon drop is the true lemon! ;)

The exact plans are still in the working stages. I figure on heading out on Thursday. If, on Thursday, it looks like there's a reasonable chance that Dragster will be open Friday morning, I may start the day at Cedar Point. Otherwise, I plan on being at Stricker's Grove and Coney Island near Cincinnati for the first part of the day, then head to Cedar Point for the evening, with the intention of catching the fireworks at 10 and, possibly, the Summer Spectacular at 11. Then, I plan on visiting Kennywood on Saturday. Depending on how that day goes, I may head to Conneaut Lake Park that same day (their Blue Streak is excellent!). Or, I may visit Conneaut Lake and Waldameer Park on Sunday. Then, it's possible to re-visit Cedar Point on Sunday, or just head home depending on the time.
Anyone care to tag along?
Paste: Thanks a million for that link to NPR with the Dick Kinzel interview on the Motley Fool! That was a very enjoyable interview! Of course, the fact that Dick listed my game (I was a weight guesser for 4 summers) as a definite "Buy" was a bonus!

yay! i have been 3 more times and am having a blast! sometime this season i am heading over to Great America to ride Raging Bull yay! But for the next few fridays i will be on point and snapping Pics rather then riding the rides. I can't wait these next few fridays are gonna be fun. I think we will go to SFWaste of an Afternoon to go on the water rides there, it will probably be less busy and they have a pool to relax in. Cedar Point needs a Floorless, those are so fun.

Here's something really cool:
I went to CP today with my brother and sister-in-law and our last ride of the day was Magnum- got in line at 11:00 PM. I rode with my brother so some other guy ended up riding with her. He told her that he hadn't ridden Magnum in like 10 years and she believed him- until he started quoting the recording they play on the first hill word for word. When they got back into the station she said "I'm guessing you've ridden this a few times". He looked down at this little clicker counter thingy on his belt, clicked it once and said, "Yeah. 1209 times this season, to be exact". She said "What are you trying to do? Set a record or something?" and he said "Yeah I am. Actually I already did. I beat Magnum Dan for most rides in one season on Tuesday, I was in the newspaper."

Man I need a new screen name this one is to long to type. Anyway about the magnum story. Last trip to MM one of the guys I was with is the X king. As we waited in line he quoted the recording word for word and in the same sounding voice. I asked him jokingly if he was the guy that did the recording.
