Gawd...

The ATI RADEON VE is the WORST video card in playing UNREAL TOURNAMENT...

ATI should be banned. Better yet...nuked.

I'm switching back to my old Voodoo3 2000 16mb video card. It's just too bad they don't make anymore Voodoos... and the support that is.

Funny... The Voodoo3 2000 is older than ATI RADEON VE, but it performs way much better than ATI RADEON VE.

@#$%ing ATI RADEON VE...what's with all the ghost images and ****, game freeze in the middle of the game, can't snipe properly with ATI.

ATI is the **** for Unreal Tournament. Don't know about UT2003...have to test that out.

yea ati sux
but id bet its not the card fault unless its defective
prolly more of a hardware or driver problem maybe conflicting drivers?
cause it is new tech so it should be better than a 16 mb voodoo card anyday

I suppose I'll point out that the Radeon VE is the worst "gaming card" (if it can be called that) to bear the Radeon name. Not only is it slow and use SDR video RAM, it even lacks DX7 features like Hardware Transform & Lighting.

Syndrome, UT was originally designed around 3dfx hardware, so even to this day it should perform very well with Voodoo cards. Performance (and even appearance) is worse in Direct3d, which is what any non-Voodoo video card defaults to.

Yeah..

I still have the Voodoo 3 2000 16mb AGP card. I wanted to try out the ATI RADEON VE to see how it is...

when I tested it...boy..it sucked big time. And it's only UT, not UT2003 YET!

ATI RADEON VE just skips, freeze and just...suck...

I wonder if the Voodoo 5 will be okay for UT 2003.

Anyone?

I know that the GeForce 3 & 4 Ti series is better than MX... especially for UT2003!!

Budget wise, I'm getting a used one, the GeForce 3 Ti 200 64MB DDR is definitely okay with UT2003, right?

Or I could get a brand new one, on budget, the GeForce 4 MX 440SE 64MB DDR...but performance wise, it is lower than the Geforce 3 Ti 200 64MB DDR....according to Tom's Hardware Guide.

Opinions?

If its a choice between just those two video cards - definitely get the GF3 Ti200.

Let's make some good use of this thread. UT_SYNDROME, you say you have a 3dfx card. I know someone who has a 3dfx card and he says he's getting poor performance. That shouldn't be the case since he has a 500 MHz CPU. Do you have any tips for optimising UT or do you know of any special drivers he could use ?

Well, my voodoo 3 2000 video card is AGP with 16 mb.

When I was using Windows 98..

I used the original Voodoo 3 2000 files I've downloaded from 3dfx's website.

and I just leave everything at default setting...I assume it relies software setting.

And it was on very modest system. AMD Duron 650 mhZ (unclocked) on ASUS A7V-33 motherboard with 1.0 GB RAM at PC-133mhz.

When I play Unreal Tournament, graphic is very smooth and the performance is really fast with no skips or freezes.

When I overclock the Duron, there's not much difference.

Now that I have Windows XP Professional, gawd....its sooooo reliable. XP Pro is good. recognizes every peripherals so easily. Because of the new operating system, I looked for more updated drivers. Found a third party drivers for Voodoo 3 2000 on XP off from www.voodoofiles.com and again, I leave everything at default.

I play UT and it's okay. Same peformance I had when I was on Windows 98.

I would wait till I get myself a GeForce 3 Ti and up before I can play UT 2003. I'm just drooling and aching to play UT 2003.

I dare not risk Voodoo 3 2000 with UT 2003. :P

Fearless,

you might want to check www.voodoofiles.com and look under tweaks section to find ways to make it better.

for me, I just leave everything at default and it's fine.

As for sound...don't bother with those motherboards with built in sound.... they are the crap.

Use SB Live! or better.

when I use the built in sound, it craps out.

but when I use SB Live! ...whoah...lovely....eargasm...

for even better sound quality, go for SB's Audigy... now that's TOTAL EARRRRGASM.....

My Radeon 9700 rocks on both UT GOTY and UT 2003.

UT GOTY= 100fps or better all graphics MAXED 1024x768

UT 2003= 50 fps or better all graphics MAXED 1024x768:up:
