... I lamented about my problems installing the game (it would not install properly at all, in case you don't feel like clicking that linky)

Anyhow, problem solved, and here's what I did:

Discovered that the copy of the game that I bought from Electronics Boutique was not even fully pressed properly (on inspection I could see where layers were missing on the 2nd and 3rd install discs

Promptly went to the store, exchanged for a new copy, and came back home

Removed all items that were on my harddrive from the botched installs

Rebooted

Downloaded the 5.05 DivX Codec and Microsoft Windows Media 9

Installed the 5.05 DivX Codec and Microsoft Windows Media 9

Made sure that I had DirectX 9.0a installed

Rebooted

Did a Disc Cleanup and Defrag

Rebooted

Disabled Norton Antivirus (many people have been having troubles with the install and the biggest culprit appears to be the AV software... kill it for the install)

Installed the game

It's running perfectly fine now (knock on wood), no loading issues, no graphic or sound glitches, nothing bad.

Or at least, nothing bad that doesn't have to do with the game itself.

I enjoyed play testing the x-box version earlier this week but I was hoping for more than a bare bones port to the PC which was all we got. Oh well.

While it's surely not the best game that' sever graced my 'puter, it is a fun play, and it's a cool addition being able to interact within the Matrix franchise that I'm already a big fan of and learn more of the story.

cheers. :)

How did you see that ???

Sometimes on a CD/DVD that isn't pressed right you can see what almost looks like a milky film on the disc. Some say that the disc surface almost looks heat-warped.

Discs 2 and 3 not only looked like that, in several spots on them (over half of disc 3) you could see what looked to be a striated cross-section of a layer - not what a properly pressed CD is supposed to look like.

Also commonly called... a watermark. Although not an intentional one.

OMG - that's what my problem is - I couldn't install it either and when I turned my CD over - there it is, all over the outer rings of Disk 2. You'd think they'd have paid more attention during production. I'm taking this back and exchanging it for Vice City. Consider myself a lost customer Infogames/Atari/whomever else. At $80 Canadian it better work from start to finish.
