hi everybody!

i got a old unreal tournament (mac) cd from a friend recently and i tried to install it on my g4 dual 867mhz with the latest OSX-version. i soon found out that it was a os9 version of ut on the cd so i tried to find some patches on the net. i found the unreal tournament X beta wich told me that i needed the latest version of UT.. my version were 400 and i needed 436. so i downloaded the update and it said on a webpage that i needed som map-packs (1, 2, 3, 4) go get the update and x-version to work. i downloaded them, installed and nothing worked..

this is the order of the installations:
1. unreal tournament 400 (full install)
2. "UTbonusPack" via the UMOD installer
3. "UTbonusPack" via the UMOD inst. + moving maps to map folder
4. "UTinoxxPack" via the UMOD installer.
5. "BonusPack4-no-umod" and moving manual over the files.
6. "UT436Update" installer but then i get the message "An error prevented the update from completing. Invalig file selected for updating" and i have to quit the installation.

i doesnīt matter if i have installed the "UT X" app. The "Unreal tournament" mapp is located directly on my primary (only) harddrive. iīve tried to move the UT-folder to the applications-folder but the installer shows the same error messages.

if i try to start the apps it gets these messenges:
osx version: "class actor member owner problem: script=48 C++=52."

os9 version: "canīt find file for package "opemgl.drv""

i have tried reinstall everything at least 100000000 times but same result every time!!
have i missed anything? whats is wrong?
please help me!

You haven't gotten a response because not many folks run it on Macs.

But I run UT on a Mac with OS 9.2. I don't think UT will run in OSX, so that's part of the problem.

I haven't had any install problems so I'm just kind of shooting in the dark with you, but here are a few things:

-- Check to see which what sort of mode UT would be running in, since it looks like UT wants the openGL drivers and you don't have them. Mine just runs off the ATI Rage128 (I have no openGL drivers in my system), which I believe was auto-selected when I loaded the game. You may have to do that manually to get it away from looking for openGL drivers. Or you may have to DL some OpenGL drivers if you run it in that mode.

-- Bonus Pack 4. Try installing with the umod installer. You can DL the installer separately from this page: http://osx.beyondunreal.com/files.html#prog

-- I think it's fine to have the UT folder on the harddrive. That's where mine resides even though I have a folder for OS9 apps.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck.

a big thx to you!!
i believe that i have installed everything properly now and i get "Class Actor Member Owner problem: Script=48 C++=52:" under both X and Classic. i donīt think it gets so far to the graphiccard/driver thing.. any ideas?

I got a view hits on google using that error msg. But they seem to be related to OpenUT and Linux. And no solution or explanation. Sigh.

Looking back over your original message, you might want to try to run UT just in classic and address the opengl driver issue. Maybe if you DL the drivers it'll work.

One other thing, what if you upgraded to 436 and loaded the bonus packs but without the x-version and kept it all in classic? I use Game of the Year edition so didn't have to worry about the patch or most of the bonus packs.

There may be something here that can help:
http://www.atarisupport.com/faq/ut_mac.asp

Also, it has an e-mail support link at the bottom of the page.

hello.
now iīm trying in classic mode with a clean full (also tried standard) install without any upgrades, bonuspacks etc..

when i start it for the first time i get the window where i can choose graphic mode:
rave or softwavre rendering

in both cases the UT startup screen shows and at "loading objects" it slows down and it takes almost a minute for it to finish. then we get to the intro movie.
pressing ESC or watching it makes the same result. the program quits and i get the error message: "Assertion failed: InPos>=0 [File:FFileManagerMac.h] [Line:64]:"
(and the finder gone mad, putting the icons all over the desktop, have to restart finder)

what is wrong? u talket about openGL?
i have geforce 4 mx. where can i find drivers?

You are the man of the weird error message. A quick search of the nvidia site didn't turn up the drivers.

Here's another approach: Making the following change to your .ini file will cause the game to skip the intro without harming anything else. Since it's hanging on the intro now, maybe ...

Go into your UnrealTournament.ini and at the top it says LocalMap=CityIntro.unr change this to LocalMap=Entry.unr

Here's a link to opengl v1.2.1

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120000

Also, I found someone who had the Class Actor problem you mentioned earlier. He didn't have a rock-solid solution, but here's his reponse:

As I recall, I had to trash all of my UT preference files, but I don't
remember which folder they were in (I'm assuming OS9 version).
Anyway, trash the preference files, download the latest drivers and
install them. Restart the computer and try that.
I know at some point I had to trash the preference files and reinstall
UT. Then re-download the drivers, but I believe it was because my
screen was always freezing up on the Speeding Train level of Team
Assault, and not for the Class Actor Member Owner problem.

Yeah, if you have classic, then you have OS9. It's like Coke calling old Coke "Classic Coke" after the new Coke came out.
