Playing w/o CD?

Is this possible?

I had read that the game only checks the disc once at the beginning and that then you can remove the disc and play. When I tried this, I got a msg saying that 11 items, including "Commando skins" were in use on the disc.

I ask this because the game sometimes halts for a few secs when I'm playing and I almost always wind up being dead when it resumes. So I'm thinking that mebee it's the CD drive pausing a bit. Or mebee it's my connection (cable), which I can't do anything about.

I run Mac GOTY on a G3 iMac.

Haha are you nuts? I would never play with a CD in the drive. You have to choose the full install option when you first install UT. Then, you need to go here (http://www.unrealtournament.com/downloads) and install the v436 patch. Then you should be able to play with no disc in the drive. Note: You need the CD in the drive when you install the patch.

When you're done, launch UT with the CD out of the drive. It should boot up perfectly. IF it still says there's no CD in the drive, then go here (http://www.gamecopyworld.com) and download and install the "NO CD CRACK".

The pausing could indeed be caused by the CD reading or your connection. Most likely the CD, because they clearly state that if you play off the CD, pausing/skipping will most likely occur. Also, it could be caused by disk swapping (virtual memory).

One thing, my GOTY is v436, so I don't think there's anything to patch. Mebbee I just need that no CD crack? I'll give that a try.

DL'd the crack, but it says I replace my UnrealTournament.icd file. I don't have one of those. So I think I gotta do some research and see what the Mac equivalent is.

I hadn't seen the msg about Bonus Pack 4, but I'll install that anyway.

I got it to work without the CD by copying the following files from the CD into the UT folder on the hard drive:

Created a Music folder, copied utmenu23.umx into it

Created Sounds folder, copied into it:
Announcer.uax
Bossvoice.uax
Female1voice.uax
Female2voice.uax
LadderSounds.uax
Male1voice.uax
Male2voice.uax

Copied Logo.utx and Credits.utx into the Textures folder.

The icd file is part of the cd protection. It is probably on the CD itself.

One last thing, the game plays fine online, but in practice mode it calls for other certain files. You'll need to copy the entire contents of the Music and Sound folders from the disc into the UT folder. Well, you could go through each map and see what it calls for and maybe you wouldn't have to copy all those files over, but it's a lot faster to just do them all. And no one wants to eat into their gameplay time too much, right?

Bonus Pack 4 is all loaded. Works great.

Also, the halting during online play has gone away. And I only put up with it for 18 months. :bulb:

I remember that had a Unreal Tournament Install CD that you don't need to play with CD after Install ...
It's version 400..but...I don't know how i got it....
but..I lost it man...Can anyone tell me ..how to redownload it again ???
