Hello, i've a problem with ut 436 goty:
when i click on ut.exe, the image of ut posts on the screen, and then(after one or two minutes), my screen comes totally black, and i can't come back to windows XP, i have to reset the computer. I already could play to ut without any problem on this computer but one day, it crashed and i never could play to ut after i have reinstalled windows XP and ut goty, but it doesn't function anymore...
Someone should help me please??? raf64flo...

Have you tried safe mode? type this into your run command on the start menu: C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -safe
obviously that is my path to UT change whatever you need to for where you store it. once your in safe mode go to video options and choose software rendering for the video mode, restart the game and switch back to D3d or whatever you were using.

Whne you say the screen goes black, do you mean it suddenly stops displaying any image at all ? This might be a vertical synchronisation problem between your monitor and graphics card. I have this problem between my current 15" screen that I got back in 1998 and a Geforce 4 Ti4200 I acquired recently. I'm contemplating getting a new screen since it doesn't seem to like the way the GF4 switched between screen frequencies.

Well, i don't think the problem comes from the monitor cause i've already play to ut goty on this computer with the same graphic card (NVIDIA Ge Force2 MX 100/200) and i hadn't any porblem from the graphics...
I have this problem since i've reinstalled ut after i've reinstalled windows XP... It is at the first run of ut goty when i'm asked to choose the video mode (i choose "software rendering") after ut logo appears that the screen goes black. It doesn't goes black like when the computer is off but just a little more black that the color of this window(i've chosen the "unreal II the awakenig" backscreen for this window).
So i don't think the graphic card is the solution of my problem... :(

Open the UNREALTOURNAMENT.LOG in the game's system folder and at the bottem there should a load of crap describing what is happening when you load up the game. Errors usualy appear hear. If there's no error, well it doesn't hurt to look.

This is certainly strange; the log says the game was quit but if you reset the computer the log will be empty. The file says the game was quit before the game engine and video drivers were loaded.
Hmm.
When you reinstalled Windows, did you install DirectX?

When i reinstalled windows, i think directX had been installed too, moreover, i have installed the last version of directX (directX8.1 i think) but i don't know what to do now...:(

So you run the game, the splash screen comes up and the screen goes totaly blank. How long have you left it at the black screen? There is definetly a problem with your game. Have you tried running it in D3D mode? How long do you have to wait for the black screen to come up? It takes me 3 mins (PI 166 MMX, 64 meg, TNT2 M64, Win 98SE).

The screen goes black one or two minutes after i have run the game, and then, i can let my computer "switched on" for 10 or 15 minutes, the screen keeps black and nothing happens, i have to reset my computer...
I have tried running in all video modes, but it is the same thing. i have AMD Athlon XP 1500+ 1.33 GHz, ram 256 megs, NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200, Windows XP...

have you tried pressing f11 when it goes black?
if it comes down to it move a file called unrealtournament.ini out of the ut/systems folder

The log is blank because UT was not quit properly.

The .INI file is blank for the same reason; the game didn't start properly, so there is no information to save.
You could re-format your HDD but I wouldn't recommend it.

the unrealtournament.ini is a hidden file.
to enable it go to control panel>folder options>view
under hidden files and folders check show hidden files and folders.

is it a real copy of the game?
If so you could put the cd in and just find those flies and drag and drop copy them manualy to system.

I have a Athlon926 with a o/clocked video card and I use XP Pro. The Unreal Tournament video settings are capable of operating in 32 bit mode with a setting of 1024X768. When I install the Unreal Tournament <Patch436.exe> everything looks goody goody up to the point when Unreal Tournament changes from the introduction screen to the desktop with the taskbar. When the introduction to Unreal is finished or I hit the ESC key that is when the Unreal Tournament window goes black with some white stuff in the taskbar area as I move the mouse cursor over stuff. I found that reducing the video setting to 16 bit stops the black problem from occuring. Try reducing you setting in the Unreal Tournament Options/Preferences/Video Tab to the 16bit setting and that should stop that black screen from ruining your fragging fun.
Hope that helps
