(Neverwinter Nights)
I keep getting an error on the second disc saying it has to abort installation, near the end. I've tried rebooting and making sure all programs are closed. My computer is way better than required. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

First, try the following:
Click on the Start Menu and select Run. In the Run dialog box, clear any text that may be in the field and type MSCONFIG and click OK. In the System Configuration Utility, change the system to Selective Startup and uncheck Load Startup Items. Apply the changes and reboot your system.
These changes are not permanent. To change the system back to the original state, go back into MSCONFIG and change the system back to Normal Startup, apply the changes and reboot. Once this process is complete, try running the program again, and see how it works.
If you have a VIA based motherboard you will want to get the latest 4-in-1 drivers, as there is an issue with the IDE chain and certain sound cards that prevent the system from transferring large files.
Also if customer has multiple sticks of RAM in the system, removing all but one may also fix the problem.
Alternatively, you can try disabling the sound card via the Device Manager or removing the soundcard (though this is impractical) to see if that is your issue.
If the above doesn't fix your issue, then you might need to get the lastest firmware for your CD-ROM drive.

Relatively new Compaq - plenty of speed and HD, latest DirectX. Other games work fine.
Installation fails on NWN on the third disk (Play Disk) at 12%. Error message is to delete files - not specific.
Installed once with minimal installation and it worked. But when loading the expansion pack, the exact same error occurred (failed at 12% complete on the Play Disk).
Then uninstalled NWN and got the above error on reinstallation - this time specifying the recommended installation.
We are stuck - help - thanks!

Another thing besides what Tepic suggessts, go into c:\windows\temp. Delete ALL files in this folder. This is where Windows unpacks the installation files for installing the game.
Also make sure that after you uninstalled thegame, you delete the Neverwinter Nights folder in C:\ (or where ever you installed it).
Also do you have an Intel or AMD based cpu?

Tried installing from another CD drive (the DVD) and - bam - it worked. So, disk read error from the CD-RW on that particular disk. Funny problem since everything else seems to work with that CD-RW.
:D :D

Sounds like you may want to get a firmware update for that cdrom drive then. :)

Thats why I always keep an my old 24x CD-Rom handy for when I hit install problems. I am not sure what it does that the other drives I have don't but it will ALWAYS install games. I think when it finaly dies I will burry it in back yard and build a little shrine.
