well i did run into 2 of em ever since my 'arrival' in moo3

but i havent taken the effort yet to destroy them

there is something i don't understand

like -> what does destroying a guardian offer?

new technology (say , from the ship , from the planets?)

the way i see it a guardian mostly is a ship accidently left behind on 'cruise control' by an elder civilisation ,

you find an elder homeworld and if ur playing as humand / humanoid ? it gives you a paradise planet ?

You don't get much. You get one (1) paradise world and one (1) Guardian on the map gives you an Ecks.

No new tech (unless you get that X).

One good thing though, is that with a little luck it will open up a swathe of juicy unexplored systems beyond the guardian 's system. Or, failing that, a backdoor into an enemy's heartland.

Only make sure your colony ships can get there before your allies'. Otherwise those pesky allies gobble up all the worlds you've "released". Selfish gits - who was it killed the big bad guardian, eh? eh?

Also, you only get paradise planets if you're Humanoid. Other races get absolutely nothing out of killing a Guardian unless it was the one with an X.

I was thinking the same thing Beamup. I've killed many a guardian now and rarely get the paradise that everyone claims that they're getting. This whole paradise for humanoid only thing would explain that nicely.

Well, I did some extensive testing (partially related in the thread I posted about Magnates and Guardians and Xes, oh my!) and the results were absolutely conclusive. Regardless of the exploration history and who beat the Guardian, the planet was always a sweet spot for humans. Seems odd, and I wonder whether it's a bug, but that's what happens.

Maybe because the extinct races used to have the exact same planet preferences as the humans in previous Moo's ;)

Call me crazy, but I hate the Guardian aspect of the game...I removed them

So many other things to worry about during a game.

You are crazy! I have a Guardian blocking access to my arm of the galaxy right now. It's fantastic! I only have to worry about watching the wormholes for invaders and I'm otherwise free to expand nicely throughout my entire arm. It's not like it's very hard to roll a Guardian over once your tech is high enough and I'm thinking that my tech should be more than adequate after filling up the arm so I'll just roll through the Guardian, snap up his planets (I'm humaniod this game;) ) and then start giving it to whatever race is on the other side. It's working as a perfect little gatekeeper for me. Keeping my Evon safe from the big bad galaxy until they're ready to face it.

...although I do recognize that some times they are a pain. Certainly not to the point that I'd remove them though.

well i have to develop an entire new game to do that (i dont have any human(oid) games with tech high enough to destroy a guardian)

the paradise planet is human or humanoid only ?

(btw i always knew the humans were the elder orions ;) )

Yeah, it really is humanoid only. But you could always go out and conquer a planet of humanoids to get some to populate the paradise planet, if you really wanted to...

Worlds behind the guardians are not worlds of ancient orions, but ruins of Mrrshan, Bulrathi, Elerian, Darlok and Alkari homeworlds (only five guardian worlds? What happened to the Gnolam system?)

And Humans are actually failed remains of Polarid genetic manipulation program to create an Evon killer race.

Both snippets are from backstory that can be found in both in-game encyclopedia and manual...

I believe the Gnolam were so pathetic that the Antarans didn't bother placing a Guardian in their system. I believe I've seen Gnol in a few games :).

The 'paradise' planets are always suited for humanoid habitat needs (that is, they have the temperature and pressure set perfectly for humanoids). All humanoids (humans, evon and psilons) require exactly the same envirnomental conditions, so any of these races will get a 'paradise' planet from a Guardian defended planet.

(By the way, all races within a given species have exactly the same environmental needs as all other races of that species.)
