Earlier this year I tried installing WoT on Windows XP. I had serious sound problems. Friends have experienced the same. If, theoretically, I wanted to reinstall the game, do I need to do anything special in Windows XP?

Also, can we get rid of the forbidden topic list? I think the problem is probably past.

Go into advanced options and change your latency to 100.

That's it? It's that easy? Cool!

A friend of my son's is having the same problem with WoT on his computer. We just formatted and did a fresh install of everything, changed the Latency thru Advanced Option in the in screen menu and nothing helped his sound. He can't get the Editor to run either, and it still says it's missing files even though we patched it. The game runs ok though, just sound is distorted. The Trollocs sound as if they are choking on something.

Comp Specs (machine is for sale too)
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512 MB DDR RAM
GeForce 4 440MX 128MB 8X AGP
52x24x52 CD-R
80Gig HDD
Windows XP Pro

You didn't specify the audio device. The known problem with sound affects SoundBlaster Live! cards.

He wasn't sure what sound card he had, only that it had six channels and is built into his Gigabyte mobo.

He probably has a Realtek (ALC655 perhaps?) chipset on his Gigabyte board. You may want to check for an up-to-date driver here (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads.aspx), or go to Gigabytes (http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_NewProduct_List.htm) site and look up his motherboard and get it from there. If he's using an Nvidia based motherboard, that's another story altogether. :bulb:

You should feel lucky. My friend's comp gives him a horrible screeshing noise whenever he starts WoT. And once it starts, it ties up the sound hardware so it cant be used without a restart.

Yeah you were right about it being a Realtech, although I think I have one and so does my son (Epox mobos). I gave him my old Aureal soundcard which I wasn't using and his sound works perfectly now.
