My new favorite strategy for winning MOO3.....

Install Megamod5, wait for the NO's to revolt, (if you have contact with them, you'll see a sitrep message saying NO's have bee wiped out or something to that effect. when it finally happens, save the game (something you'll remember). and start a multiplayer game on LAN and choose the new elder civilization as the race you would like to play!

The No's usually revolt between turns 13 and 25 so if it doenst happen by then, it probably wont.

Enjoy!

:( Just crashed on me as soon as I tried to open the Forces tab for Orion. I didn't do it the turn the revolt happened (not in the Senate so I didn't know), so there were 5 ships already in-system which might be the problem.

hmm... I havent tried opening the forces tab yet, not one that I use too often, Let me know if you figure it out

I get a directx error everytime i try to go to the "shipyard" menu. :( This means that my only choice for getting new tech on my ships is to load the game up as another emprie for a few turns, then load back as the Antarans... :bulb:

I dunno, maybe i screwed up the instalation or something...:(

Hmm, thanks to this thread, I found a nifty way to swap races... Nothing to do with the idea used here, just was a catalyst for a "hey, why don't I try that?". ;) But I swapped the NO with the race I started as (Silicoids in this case). Worked out nicely. You don't actually start with the Orion sector (although that's possible too), you just play as NO, with all the NO benefits (and cool looking ships).

Is that just in multiplayer or is it possible to do for single play?

Not possible for single play, otherwise it would be more stable.

@LV I also am getting directx errors on my laptop, but not my desktop for some reason:bulb: I guess i gotta use my main computer when I wanna use this trick. The most common crash for me was when i tried to set migrations or access a planet through the system screen?
What OS are you using? My laptop runs XP Pro and my desktop runs Win2kPro

If this is POST the Code patch, it's new... if it's not, then you haven't paid attention; I did this before my motherboard died.... at the end of April. It's been well talked about, and is somewhat understood, but with the Code patch, the revolt didn't seem to happen. It's caused by having the NOs revolt from not being able to maintain upkeep on their HUGE fleet. It was stable for me to play as the NO for a while, though, after doing this.

RMA comes in today. (Hooray!) Maybe I'll be able to MOO again before the weekend's over.

ITs post code patch, pre code patch I didn not seem to have the directx errors that I am having now

Maybe it'll be better with the MP fixes for the release patch:D

My PC is running on WinXP Pro as well, maybe there's a connection...

But it's probably the fact that my second instalation of moo3 didn't go all that smoothly. I had some problems getting the code patch installed in the right place and in the end i just had to copy the stuff from my first installation... :bulb:

OS X. When MoO crashes I just start it back up again, so the crashes aren't a big problem - takes 15 seconds at most. Annoying, though, since nothing else ever crashes...

Just a heads up, I'm almost done "race editing" (that is, assigning whatever race you want to any player, as well as customizing any race) for my editor. I expect to have it finished and released by next week. Barring any bugs that decide to clonk me over the head.

Just out of curiosity, whic race are you replacing?

Da_Blade

Judging from the fact he's doing it in the editor, you'd be able to replace any race with any other race :)

Yes, exactly. Want your empire to be Elder Civilization? No problem. Want the NO to be humans? Go nuts. Want Blade to be ComBots? That works too. ;)
