Please help. I have not been able to find a good way to know how many of each type of soldier I have. I would also like to know how I can find all my deployed armies. I have a bad habit of leaving small garrisons on newly captured planets and forgetting where they are located.

Thank you.

On the planet's screen set "Details" to Military, and then check the "Owned Planets" checkbox.

The screen will now list the number of ground units on any given planet, clicking on the ">>" will bring you directly to that planet's military tab, displaying an present ground forces. To go back to the planet's screen, close the tab and hit the "back" button in the upper left corner.

It's not perfect, because you have to view the planet's individually to actually see what type of units are on the planet, but it's useful none-the-less.

There is no way to count your ground forces in reserve. Even the 'create ground forces' screen is unreliable. Switch back and forth between various unit type/species filters and see the number of available units change... :(

This is one of the more glaring faults in the UI, apparently caused by the radical cuts in the late stages of developent. Hopefully QS will restore the troop management screen in a patch. Looking at the data files with the game, you can see that there was one originally.

As for counting deployed armies, it can be done the way Strifeguard describes. Tedious but possible. This would also be improved by restoring the troop inventory screen. We should be able to see a summary of our ground forces in exactly the way we can see a summary of our ships on the task forces screen in the Shipyard tab.

In the system view switch to forces. This will tell you how many ground troops you have on the selected planet. Its a lot less cumbersome than going to each planet individually.

Also if you open the military tab on a planet screen and it shows space forces then there are no ground forces (it always shows ground if there are any).

It's a whoel lot more cumbersome then Strifeguard described. Since you usually don't have more then "Military: 0" on each planet, scanning a large lists can even be done relatively fast. I regularly scroll my 300+ planets to search for stationed ground troops, it can be done within a minute if you get used to it.

Some people need to use troops to deal with unrest, and it would take them longer.

WHy would you use troops with unrest? They don't reduce it, and you shouldn't let it come to the point where troops help *just a little* anyways.

Besides, sort the list on unrest, and start scrolling upwards from the bottom, up to the point where you DO want troops established.

Er... Check again. Troops can provide a fairly major improvement in unrest. (It seems to vary from game to game; I suspect it may be based on government, government series, or ground combat stats of troops in question)

Are all those deployed troops costing me money, or can I just leave them where they are?

Deployed troops do cost money. It turns out that divisions save you a little money over reserves, corps save a fair bit, and armies cost you.

What does this tell me? I'm changing these values ASAP in my mod.
