I've got the Game of the Year version of UT, but my friend only has the original UT. BUT he's downloaded the latest patch and all the bonus packs.

So he hosts a game, and I try to join him, but it says there's a file-mismatch or something. Like an idiot, I don't remember what file it is, but it was something very common, like a map or something (like face or some really standard map like that).

Anyway...was just wondering if this was a common problem that a lot of ppl have run across. If needs be, I can try connecting with him again sometime and try to find out what file it was that had the version difference.

(I had also wondered if I should download all the bonus packs myself and just reinstall all of them on top of what I've got. Wouldn't that fix the problem? )

Thanx for any help.

Well it all depends on what file it was. If it was the DE files. Then the person connecting has to go into their UnrealTournament/System folder and delete the de.u and de.int files.

There are some minor differences in some of the standard files between the various versions of UT that have been commercialized. The maps themselves should be standard, though.

A quick fix for file mismatches is to simply note the name of the file that is causing the problem, existing UT and copying the file in question to somewhere else for safekeeping. The next time you connect to the server, the correct file should download automatically.

It would be a good idea to download all the Bonus Packs and install BP1 & 4 at the least. A lot of the maps that come in the packs have become standard on a lot of online servers. Obviously, it would also be a good idea to patch UT up to the latest version which 4.36 (the UTPG patches haven't yet been fully adopted).

P.S: The DE package is completely useless when it comes to servers. It should be commented out in the unrealtournament.ini :

[Engine.GameEngine]
;ServerPackages=DE

I think ut goty allready comes with v436?
When it ask for botpack.u
and displays D:\
Make it point to C:\UnrealTournament
If your talking about the new patch, you dont need it 436 works fine and also ive read that its causeing problems with older version servers.
436 should work fine on every server

i have winME, and GOTY edition, as well as a poor default setup (ie: 3 years old with no upgraded hardware).. and the only problems i have is minimizing UT and getting a d3d error and it closes, but that doesnt bother me at all since i never need to minimize it unless i am closing it =)

And I also noted the thing you mentioned about the DE ServerPackage in the ini file.

Thanx so much for all the help. I'll keep you dudes informed.

Connection failed
Package 'de' version mismatch

So, I moved both my DE files from the System folder to another place, downloaded the DE files from my friend's server, and that did it! :)

Don't know how to thank you dudes!!!!:up:
