Version 4.3 of the Encyclopedia mod is complete.

I have just made a zip of the two files you need to replace. They are not in a directory, so you will have to create that yourself (in the proper location of course) if it doesn't already exist.

I have added to Archangel_Brians encyclopedia mod (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=269820). (Please see his post for what was in his mod). Since he is no longer interested in this game, I have taken over.

I plan on adding more to the mod as time goes by.

What I have added so far:


Space Combat Mechanics (visage)
(the charts are hard to format, and may not be at all :))
Dev Plan Guide (Da_Blade)
Magnates & Migration (QSI)
"How to get the AI to build the Big Boys" (Chadmium)
Updated planetary specials.
Completed Hull size spaces
Added Atmosphere and Temperature preferences to the Race Descriptions. (Standard & Magnate - from spreadsheets)
Added base ground combat abilities for all races.
Planetary
Development Concepts and Tools for Macromanagers (Zodicus)
updates to various area (Nspace & Iskabis/rhyssan)

What I plan on adding in the future:


MOO3 Acronyms
Updating moreof the things that change in the patch (and future patches)
misc information from the spreadsheets that I think are interesting/useful
"Your suggestion here"
Race vs Government


I have released v4.0 (3.0 was Archangel_Brians). There is no readmt.txt yet, so other than looking yourself, this is the only place to see what has changed so far. :)

If you add this to the wsEncylopediaTitles file you can see all the QSI hidden Easter Egg type notes. (Jokes, Info, Thanks, etc.)

I edited my post to clarify ("My Site") I guess it wasnt as clear as I thought. I have updated it twice already. I will continue to update it until it is finished. I have no idea how much bandwidth I get at that site, so just try later if you can't access it.

i just got done merging his into your's. at least, i hope i did ;). as long as his only additions are what he listed in the readme, it's actually pretty quick to do. and in his thread on orion sector, he noted that he expects his to be temporary and your's to be the true "carrying forward of the effort".

if you want, i can mail you a merged version. basically, he added a few lines to the titles file (to make the easter egg links) and some other stuff to the encyclopedia itself. i suspect you've added more to the encyclopedia than he has - but he does have a few keyboard and mouse shortcuts that aren't in your version, and he fixed a couple of typos/patch changes.

going forward, i appreciate both of your efforts immensely! and think it would be wondrous if you worked together so that we all benefit from the combination of your thoughts!! but i thought i'd go ahead and see how bad the merge would be, and it isn't bad at all... you're welcome to a copy if you like. ;)

I don't know if you want something like it, but I'd suggest my thread on Armada design (which doesn't seem to be covered by any topics in the current encyclopedia). While I wrote it for v1, it seems to still work much the same way (although the ship examples are probably off). I just noticed the thread seems to have disappeared. dkass' info on spies (in the thread he linked to) looked fine, but there was a post right after it that contained information about "ReserveSpiesPerOppressPt" that's been shown false fairly recently. (and apparently confirmed by a dev) the spymod thread has the details.

i didn't want to resurrect an old thread by posting there, but if spy info is going into the encyclopedia, make sure it has the right stuff about the above variable... :)

Uuughh. I know and I apologize. :( I got some questions that made me realize that I'd made some errors in the way I had originally constructed my dev plan argument so I corrected them. Very embarrassing. :D

Give me a few days. I've noticed a few other minor things that I'd like to clean up (side effects of previous edits). All pretty minor stuff. I'll PM you when I'm happy with the final results if that's ok.

Speaking of your site, for people not using IE or have JS turned off, the color of the textlinks sucks really bad (blue on blue background).

Suggest you remove this junk

hiya all, and thanks for making the encyclopedia mod. but i can't make it work! i read the readme, and call me retarded, but i don't know what to do. the zipfile contains the following three items when unzipped:

1. Encyclopedia_Mod_v4.3_readme.txt
2. wsEncyclopedia.txt
3. wsEncyclopediaTitles.txt

the readme says to:

"Just put the "wStrings" directory in your "...\Master of Orion 3\GameDataSets\Classic_01\GameData\English" directory and viola!"

the path referred to here on my machine currently contains an "mob" file:

wStrings.mob

i don't see a "wStrings directory," i see two text files, as listed above (items 2 & 3). am i supposed to just copy those text files into the directory that currently contains the "mob" file?

please help please help please help i'm desperate! it's worse to have what i need and not know how to make it work than not have it all!

alright so i am retarded. there may be others, so i'm not removing my post. this is what i did to make this mod work:

1) in the path listed in the readme file there was a file named "wStrings.mob." i added a folder there which i named "wStrings."

2) then i copied the text files (items 2 & 3) in my above post into the new folder i created.

this worked. i think this is a little clearer than what was in the readme. i hope there are others who benefit from this clarification.
