[FONT=arial][COLOR=darkblue]I've read the posts regarding problems with Scrabble 2.0 that seem to be related to the connection method (cable, DSL). The appearance of the Black Screen of Death began when I moved from a CRT to an LCD flat panel monitor. The game had worked fine for years (modem connection) with before this.

Launching the game produces the black screen, which as others have mentioned, can only be got rid of by powering down completely. I contacted Sony, maker of the monitor, for help and was told that Scrabble 2.0 apparently runs on a resolution so low that it is not supported by an LCD monitor. When I set my monitor to 600x800 as a test, I got the black screen again -- without having Scrabble running -- so it does seem to be an issue.

My question is this: Will Scrabble Complete run correctly on an LCD monitor?

Thanks for any help with this.

It sounds as if your issue is related more to what the LCD will support than what the game will support.

If you can not display 800x600 desktop resolution, you will likely have this problem with many games. I can't belive that Sony would sell an LCD monitor that doesn't support 800x600. It's a pretty standard resolution. I would be complaining to them. (Maybe there is a newer driver for the monitor?)

As far as Scrabble Complete, I wouldn't expect it to support anything other than 800x600 (again, a very standard res), as usually only the more advanced games allow you to raise the resolution. I could be wrong though. Maybe somone at Atari could tell you exactly what resolution Scrabble Complete runs at?

Same issue here, but with Scrabble Complete on CRT monitor. Starting the game locks it up with a black screen.
Seems this game is plenty buggy/broken. Best Buy won't take it back so Atari had damn well better either provide a patch/fix or start giving people their money back. The thing is flat broken for me, and I run a pretty clean, standard XP Home system. I have no problems with anything else I play, and I don't plan on doing registry edits etc just to play Scrabble.
Looks like I just tossed $20 down the toilet, 'cause I don't see much hope of any support on this one

Okay, I take it all back....for now anyway.
Disabled all background apps to get past the blackscreen (odd though, as I never would have thought any that I had running would've been the problem, as they don't seem to bother any other progs) then followed the tech support advice on checking in compatibility settings to fix the "computer plays by itself" issue. Left if running under XP (don't switch to 98 if the box says XP compatible!), but checked the "disable visual themes" and "turn off advanced text services" boxes.
So far so good. Maybe the game wasn't released "broken", just not very thoroughly tested... ;)
