i haven't seen anybody mention this bug, so it may be just something wrong with my version of moo3.
this was already a bug in 1.0, and it remained after the 1.2 patch (complete re-install)
shipdesign screen.
the orbitals have (according to the manual and encyclopedia (mod)) their own sizes. (e.g. monitor, star base, battlestation etc)
however, when i select "orbital" in the dropdown, the sizes still only let me choose from the SHIP sizes. (cruiser, battleship etc).
are the names for the orbitals just missing? is this something that could be modded? or should i try another re-install?

The orbital names are the SAME as the coorespodning ship sizes.

hm. i guess i'll put this one under "errors in the manual" then. still kind of disappointing haven the same size names for orbitals and ships...

Just back from a foray in the manual, (been some time since I have visited there). There are 14 different names coorseponding to the 14 different names of the ships sizes. AND it also gives the different grafics (there are 3 different OBS grafics). Granted, when you change from SS or Starship to OBS, it doesn't change the name... but it is directly proportional. If this is the error you are looking for, I guess you found it. Does this effect the functionality of the game in any way? NOPE.
Dsiapointing? Only if you are so heavily involved in your OBS that you don't know the doorbell is ringing...

of course it doesn't affect the FUNCTIONALITY. but my opinion is: if it's in the manual it should be in the game. the different names i mean.
just what would you like better: a dread cruiser sized orbital (huh? sounds wrong somehow) or a heavy star base (sound better, doesn't it?). both are size 9 according to the manual (p. 113)
i don't build orbitals often, and it is in no way a 'serious' bug, i was just wondering if it was intentional or just a fault with my version ;)

The only thing I pay any attention to, starships or orbitals is what I name them. :)

Note also that the ship names in the manual for the larger ships are different (or in a different order) from the ones in the game.

You seem to be laboring under the delusion that the manual actually is for the game we have. It isn't. It was printed a long time before the game was finished, and a great deal changed between printing and release, much less now. The manual is totally unreliable, you can't trust it, and the sooner you learn this the less problems it will create for you.

Wrong tense.
I suggest 'If it's in the manual it should've been in the game.'
Change is inevitable, but being wrong, and useless from the start it is arguably not a manual, I suggest renaming it 'Story Book'
