I have a problem with the startup of Unreal Torunament. Yesterday i installed Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y Edition, and played for hours. Now, the day after, I decided to play some more of this great game, but when I tried to start the game, all I got was this error message:

I have made no changes on my computer between these two moments. I just closed UT, shut down the computer, turned on the computer, and tried to start UT.
Is this a usual problem which can be solved, or do I have to wave goodbye to this great game?
Specs:
AMD Athlon XP2100+ 1.73 GHz
512 DDR ram
GeForce4 TI 4200 128 DDR ram
WinXP Pro

remove your UnrealTournament.ini and start ut
Or try starting in safe mode
start/all programs/unreal tournament/unreal tournament safe mode

I've already tried that. Both of them, but no positive response.
I've gotten some tips from some friends friends etc. who say this may be because I use logitech mouse and keyboard drivers (iTouch). Can anyone confirm this?

Your friends may be right. There have been various posts confirming that there is a conflict between UT and iTouch drivers.

Damn. I tried to uninstall the drivers, but when i restarted my pc, WinXP decided to reinstall them by itself. Starting to get mad because WinXP always tries to repair itself.
Anyway; does anyone know of some patch/drivertweak or anything similar that fixes this problem?

I also find it strange that this only happens to Unreal Tournament, when DeusEx is running fine, and it is built on the same engine as UT.

I get the same error. I use the Logitech Navigator Trio. PIV 2.8G 512MB Ram Geforce 4 8xAGP.
Who can we contact for support?

If you have Logitech componants, you may have iTouch software. If you do, get rid of it (iTouch). It causes those errors.

I was getting the same critical error message as above. So, as suggested, I removed my ITouch software and UT plays fine (so far).
This verdict may be a bit premature. If I encounter more problems, I'll let you know.
As for the other poster who said he couldn't remove his ITouch driver, I fail to see why you cannot do this. I don't see why XP would reinstall the driver once you remove it. XP did not do this on my PC. All I did was go to Add/Remove programs and followed the steps necessary to remove the Logitech ITouch software. There was a lengthly pause while my request was being processed and then I had to reboot the PC. After that, I could start up UT.

Why? He said it is now working. You don't need iTouch to use your Logitech mouse/keyboard. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and I didn't install anything at all for it.

As I mentioned beforehand, once I removed the iTouch software, UT seems to run fine.
But here's another suggestion for people (like myself) who actually like the iTouch features and don't necessarily want to remove the software. After all, I paid $$$ for this Logitech keyboard/mouse and I'd like to get my money's worth.
Get your hands on a Startup Manager. There are several available but the one I use is called Startup Control Panel written by a guy named Mike Lin (www.mlin.net). This utility lets you disable items (such as iTouch) so that it doesn't load when you boot. The software is still on your PC, it just isn't loaded. Play with UT all you want. Then, if you want to launch iTouch, you can simply launch the iTouch Configuration Utility from the Logitech group off your Programs list. The iTouch icon will then appear in your System Tray.
However, if you want to play with UT again you'll have to reboot so that iTouch is flushed from your memory. In other words, right clicking on the iTouch icon on your System Tray and selecting Exit won't do the job.
Anyway, I'm currently playing around with this configuration and it seems to be a viable solution until somebody comes up with a more robust way of dealing with this issue.
