I have installed all the patches for IG2, but I still can't get it to run. I am running Windows XP Pro on a very fast machine. When I try to boot it up, it gives me a message saying "Unable to load from file : scren/Charset.Bmp. Generate Exception?" I try to generate the exception and it still doesn't work. My Directory is located on my F: partition of my hard drive. Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

You know, I'm sure I have read something about this in older posts, try looking for it. Some threads are deleted, but maybe it's still on somewhere.

I am REALLY tempted to say that it’s XP not letting IG2 load. I tried to run Klingon Academy on a friend’s XP and splat; XP won’t even let it run under 9x mode. I could rant all day long on how much I hate XP but I wont. IG2 was designed when Windows 2000 was the premo O/S. I am sure someone has figured a way to make it run but since I have Windows 98, it’s all good over here. Really, not to fully knock Pane XP, but I really do believe it’s XP giving you a hard time.

IG2 plays absolutely fine on my XP pro. i did have the perennial problem of all the FMVs stuttering but all you need to do is run it in win98 compatibility mode and no stuttering and hopefully a trouble free run-through

I have four PCs, all running XP Pro, on AMD processors, and they all won't run, giving the exact same message as you get. I have tried running in compatibility mode for 98 & Me, and I have tried lowering the virtual memory to 512, all with no change.
It's a real shame that they haven't got an update or a patch that would fix this, I think IG2 is one of the best space games made, and with XP being the leading OS of today, a lot of folks will have problems playing it. :(

It isn't XP. My friend and I played some multiplayer two weeks ago and it worked. He has windows XP and I have windows 98.
I'll see if I can get him to come post his computer specs.

Yep! It's not XP at all. It doesn't seem to be an OS problem. It is rather some minor bug with directX, that's what causes some rough time. About the patch, they do not own the code of the game, sop they can't modify it unless a request from the publisher comes, that doesn't even exist anymore. Atari on the other hand seems not to give a *sheet* about the forum or support so far, so that's not gonna happen. But try older directX, should work fine. Under the 9 series of directX IG2 seems not to be able to run the setup.exe at all correctly.
