In my current game I'm cut off from the rest of the galaxy by a guardian, and I would like to know what's a good tech level to attempt an escape?

here (http://www.ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=300845)'s a thread that discusses it, just about halfway down the page from this one. somewhere along in it there's a link to another one that was also useful, but start with this one...

The short version - hit it with about 150 Merculite Light Missiles. For the longer version, see the thread Rhyssan linked. IMO the really important posts are the two I made actually calculating out what it takes. Note that the first one was being exceedingly pessimistic, the numbers in the second are more relevant.

Also note that these are calculations, not experiments. My own experience indicates they're correct calculations, and if anything are pessimistic.

Build a bunch of colonist ships and send at least 11 at the Guardian. Retreat with ten of them. The others remain at the Guardian system unmolested. On the next turn, send the on to colonise whatever lies beyond......

I wonder if the computer picks which sips to include in the ten TFs intelligently. Perhaps it is smart enough to always leave out unarmed TFs?

Territory is everything in this game so get moving. Don't wait until you can take out the Guardian (turn 75-150?). All you need on the other side is one Mobilisation point.

You can also try to go offroad to a nearby star. Depending on engine tech and indusrty, it may be faster than building 11 colony ships.

No, it's pretty stupid. In fact, my admirals seem to prefer unarmed TFs to anything else.

Killed it, moving on.

There's no preference towards any TF. The AI just picks TFs down a list, until it hits 10, and those are what you get to fight with.
