I have the same problem as you do. We play online for about two minutes and then gets ping spikes of 1000. I've tried giving both machines static IPs and then putting one machine in the DMZ. I've tried giving both machines static IPs and forwarding the ports. Nothing I've tried yet has worked. Following is an email I received from LinkSys tech support...
"Dear Valued Linksys Customer,
Thank you for contacting Linksys Customer Support.
Can you please try opening the ports that are being used by
those games
under port triggering? This is for your PCs to be able to play that game
properly and even simultaneously. I have attached a document on how to use
port triggering. I hope this could help.
If you have further questions, please contact us at (800) 326-7114 or send
us an email at support@linksys.com so that we may further assist you.
Please use this phone number given as reference for future support calls.
Sincerely,

"How to use Port Triggering
1. How does it work?
a) A computer makes an outbound request. The router looks at the packet that is going out and checks with its "Port trigger" list
(1) If the ports are listed, then the ports will be "Triggered" for that computer. This process can be used by all the computers in the LAN.
(2) Else the packets are dropped unless the ports are forwarded
2. When do I use Port Triggering?
a) Port Triggering is usually used to for requests that come from the LAN and connecting to a server, such as a VPN, games, etc.
3. Setting up port triggering
a) Determine which ports your program is using.
b) Go to http://192.168.1.1, and input the password for the router
c) Go to the "Advanced" tab> "Forwarding"
d) Click on "Port Triggering"
(1) Input an application name that is easy to remember, and then put the "Trigger Port Range"
(2) Now put in the "Incoming Port range"
Note - If unsure, make the "Incoming Port Range" the same as the "Trigger Port Range"
e) Click "Apply" and "Continue

I tried this, but it didn't work. I tried an experiment last night. My friend came over and played Unreal Tournament online while I played the Raven Sheild Multiplayer Demo. We had pings of 94 for most of the night. It seems to be UT and the router. I will keep searching for more info.

I had the same problem. We tried everything having to do with our router. (even bought a new one) Checked network settings, did the netspeed thing. But then we figured it out. We used to rent a modem from our ISP. It worked fine then. We bought a modem and returned the rented one, and that's when the problems started. We said screw this and bought the same kind of modem that we used to rent, and bingo. It works now.
If you have a friend that has a different kind of modem, try asking if you can try it out on your system(s). It's worth a try.

make sure you have all the pcs off
unplug router/modem
plug in the modem and wait till its stable(about 30 seconds)
then plug in the router and wait the same
then turn on your pcs
this fixed my problem when I was having it
the other problem you could be having is your provider has you capped @ a certain speed

does your router have an integrated switch? if so try to cascade another switch and connect all pcs to the 2nd switch. so the router switch only uses one internal port to forward packets. many routers have problems at high load when more than one internal port is connected.

Use the Port Forwarding function of the router and specify the ports for each computer. You'll have to assign a different port for the game on each machine. That will make it work.
