View Full Version : RJ has a deep seeded resentment of women . . . . . .

It is QUITE obvious that he feels that almost all women are either blundering dunderheads (yessss, dunderheads) or evil social climbers.

Have we seen a woman who BOTH

A) doesn't enjoy the well known and time-honored sport of 'walking into obvious traps'

and

B) sell her soul to the DO in the hope of riches to come?

I mean, sure, there are the poor little healers here and there, and maybe moraine as the one and only competent WoT woman, but every other last one of them is either a moron or an evil social climber.

In fact . . . Most of the women that fit one category fit them both!

I say we take up a PayPal donation for counseling for the poor man.

Um... how about Verin, Cadsuane? (ok, so the jury's still out on Verin, but it's closer to having a definite result now)

Actually, you need a third category there:
C)I'm-always-right-and-you-will-not-disagree

And I feel obliged to point out (as happens in all these threads) that he based all female characters loosely on his wife.
So, is that then the source...

Wow. It's a good thing you pointed this out! Otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed that none of the men have sold their souls to the DO in the hope of riches to come. Thank you for showing me the way.

RJ's wife is really a man. Therefore RJ is gay. Therefore explaining his resentment/aversion to women as well as the fact that all women in the books are strong.... masculine even.. Just the way he likes them

WOW There all based on his wife! Is she scitzo? Or is she angry with him?

I don't think I would be flattered by being described like a WoT womman!

LOL, good one!

All of the women in WoT do that!

**all women do that**

Mulder ... thank you.
I would also like to point out that Matt gets himself into trouble with ease.

I didn't say ALL DF's are female, I said all females are either A) Morons B) DF's or C) (as someone eloquently stated) I'm-right-you're-wrong.

I think this sums it up.

So, they are all based on his wife, huh?

So his wife is a Satanic idiot who completely forces her will upon him? I doubt that, he seems so loving in his dedications . . . .

Maybe an ex-wife?

Some things need to be changed and or added for your list to be correct:
B) Is simply a *****
and
D) Has the exact same personality as Random Paranoid Aes Sedai #841

Then it shall be correct! Voila.

What about Min? The only trap I remember her getting caught in was the Aes Sedai who captured Rand, so that's pretty much his fault. And Birgitte as well. They don't even really fall into the "I'm always right category" (at least not any more than anyone else male or female). See there are at least 2 out of the 800 or so female characters in the book who do not match your description :)

Also my favorite two female characters. Well, and Verin, because she's messing with everyone. :D

How can you call a fictional character hot?

RaolinDarksbane

If you really think about it, anyone that you have never met face to face is fictional. My friend who is a computer artist made a composite of multiple hot model and sent it to me, me and a lot of my friends couldn't tell that that person in the picture was completely fictional.

Another example was that my friend tricked one of my female friends into thinking that I will be getting married in a couple of months, she was obviously shocked, yet wanted to go to my wedding. For over a month she thought my fictional wife was real until we told her it was just a prank to get her to buy us dinner to celebrate. This really happened.

gotta love them tight breeches.:D

Hey, does anyone know whether it's deep seeded or deep seated?

I always thought it was deep seeded. Like there was a seed deep down where the feeling came from, but then I read in a novel that someone had a deep seated resentment or something, and I was like "what?"

How can you be deep seated?

Going back to the reason that this thread was started, it seems the only two females that aren't "Im always right" type are the two who wear the breeches. The Maiden's I am not counting, they wear breeches for a different reason. So does RJ think that the women cant be slightly more normal with the "Im right" thing, unless they aren't as 'girly' and wear pants??

What about Alliandre?

Gonzo the Great

warderbonded,
It is time for you boys to stop thinking now ... Considering the subject, you have a decidedly strange idea of men if you think that the word "thinking" was relevant.

Im sorry Lord Gawyn Trakand, but you must forgive my ignorence. I cannot place who Alliandre is, I am only on the beginning of book 8, perhaps I dont know her yet? (RJ is crazy, book 8 and still introducing new characters) Or is she someone in the houses of Andor?

Astaroth

most women that I know have that holier than thou attitude..so in that respect RJ's female characters are true to life.

most of them have that yep, something with their ego i think.

Spawnie

if you are only on book 8, do you really think you should be here?

I mean, fisrt the spoilers might ruin stuff for you, and then you might make an arse of yourself if you say something when everyone else knows its wrong because its in another book

You might not really have bothered before - she's the queen of Ghealden, and hasn't featured too much up to around where you're at.
Although, she has been mentioned in book 5, when Nynaeve goes to see the Prophet about a boat to Tear and the Lord Dragon to bask in his radiance (ie Salidar).

Allright, I'll give you Min as an exception, and Birgette also.

But we all know that they both wish they were men. I mean, seriously, here min is wearing pants and short hair and being mistaken for a guy left and right, and here birgette is putting arrows into eyeballs and getting completely trashed in taverns with Mat. So we see, they are both males personality-wise, mebbe trapped in a female body? You never know!!

and this ghealdhan queen has not been developed enough for surety.

And Verin might be a DF. I mean, what with all that compulsion going on . . .. it be possible. Or maybe she is a good AS but helps the light be doing all sorts of baad stuff.

I haven't read em in a while, so i dont really know!

Alliandre is in book 9 and 10.. sorry, didn't know you hadn't read that far... The point is though.. that there is another class of women.. the submissive type... Julian Sander's women is another.

You have no reason to be sorry Lord Trakand, Hellspawn King is right, perhaps I shouldn't be here yet. Impatiantness was so strong that I joined early, and if I have already made an 'arse' out of myself, please forgive me.

I am second guessing Min though. She used to act and look male, but after she got all google eyed with Rand, she seems to use the 'I know what I am talking about and I am right' think with him. Correct me if I am wrong.

Lol... just call me Gawyn. You might want to watch out though... everyone has pretty much accepted book 10 and nobody really uses spoiler tags anymore... so choose the threads you go into otherwise you might end up already knowing what happens in 10 without reading 9.

Depends what the lass likes.. Depends what she likes.. ;D

And hey, I wouldn't mind knowing what happens in book 10! That way I won't have to buy it and read it. :P Despite my lack of interest in the series these days, I -know- I'll end up buying it otherwise..

Mat travels down a road.

Rand almost makes a decision.

Perrin gets all angsty.

Elayne takes a bath and drinks tea.

Egwene is still an idiot.

Thanks uh... Gawyn! Eek! I feel really stupid now. What are spoiler tags???
As for watching out, I am trying, but it seems from my Father that nothing happens in book 10, and VERY little in 9. I wouldn't know, but Ive heard that RJ just writes hundreds of pages, and advances the plot 3 pages... Someone should start a thread on that or something.

Spoiler tags are things that some people will put in topics that gives an alert that there are spoilers in the post. For example: "What Rand did in so-and-so a place ***SPOILERS***"). What they are saying is that books 9 and 10 have been out for a while, and most people aren't bothering with the spoiler alert in the subjects anymore.

But yes, books 9 and 10 do drag quite a bit. The end of 9 is really, really good. One of the absolute best scenes of the series. Maybe that will help you get through 9. :) Good luck with 10... it just builds up anticipation for something big to happen... and then it builds more anticipation... and more... until you are through with the book and nothing has happened. It does have a little something at the end though, but I won't say what so as to not spoil anything for you. But there is a little something (just so you have a little motivation). Plus, you have to get through 10 to get to 11 ;) (whenever it comes out), that should be enough motivation.
