I just got myself a VAIO SONY laptop computer. It has a gforce 4 420 GO Video card, 256 mb DDR RAM, Ahtlon XP 2000+. Every game works fine but Unreal Tournament. Even UT2003 works fine. What happens is UT goes on steroids and runs at super fast speed. IT's almost like 10-30 speed. I have tried to play online and it seems this system is trying to go faster then the server will let it and therfore my player just stays skips along really badly. I have tried different drivers for my video card. I even have tried a different laptop (same model) STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. I have tried every video mode. Software mode, open GL, direct 3d. THE SAME PROBLEM! if anyone can help me please reply, UT1 is my favorite game and I really am itching to play it on this machine.

Doies your laptop have a cpu throttling feature (i.e: does it slow down the cpu to conserve energy) ? If so, disable this feature whenever you're playing UT.

Where would that option be? under power settings?

Power settings, proprietary manufacturers software, bios ... who knows ? I would have a look at the manual (usually available online in PDF format if you don't have a hard copy).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't slowing down the cpu make the game run slower, rather than faster?
I have the same problem, and am looking for a solution. Someone in the Compaq forums said that the CPU Throttling thing probably wouldn't be the problem. If I could just find out how to turn it off, I'll give it a try, though.

I fixed my problem I had to update my VIA media chipset drivers. After that it worked fine!!

maybe its a compaq thing
i have two compaq evo's laptops in my house
one is pentium 3 1ghz evo n160 and that runs fine on ut
but my pc athlon 1700+ evo n1015v goes hyper like you're saying
it seems to only go hyper on ut, i slow the game down to 50% but its still a bit fast, internet speed is all screwed because of the weird speed thing it jerks and doesnt let me move
what is this cpu throttling thing:weird:
