Anyone had sound and other problems with ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MOBO ? It's not good, for example, with ENTER THE MATRIX (ETM). With ETM there is no sound during intro and despite using recommended video card (GForce4 Ti 4200) game does not play in normal mode, although screens work in SAFEMODE. In SAFEMODE no sound.
MOBO: A7N8X Deluxe, Graphics: MSI 128MB nVIDIA GForce4 AGP8X Ti4200 8X, CPU: XP2500+ (Barton) 333Mhz, RAM: 2x256MB, Sound: as on MOBO, Operating System: W98SE
Drivers: Latest from ASUS (all-in-one) and latest patch for ETM (1.53).
W98 Control Panel (Multimedia) shows nine audio items (1 of which is active and OK; others are active but not working due to unknown problem). Deletion and reinstallation brings system back to as it was.
DXDIAG (at 9.0) shows no sound problems. MSCONFIG was used to shut down all startup tray items, but did not help. ASUS NVIDIA sound driver control panel passes all tests and show no problems.
W98 sound and early games like 'Theme Hospital' work fine with no sound problems.
So I tried building a machine around the specifications required for playing ETM....and it just doesn't do it. Help gratefully received!

Every person I have known with the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe has had to update to Windows XP to get sound working correctly.

Thanks Obispo.
I have used an XP upgrade (from W98SE).
Everything is now working fine.
Thanks again.:)
