A buddy of mine has been on Mission: Space several times, and he says it's AWESOME!
Not exactly what he was expecting, but Better!
He said it's like riding Star Tours, but with 2003 Technology and only 4 people in the Cabin...He says the Motion of the Lift Off is SOOOOO realistic!
I gotta Ride it!!

Did it open early, I read it wasn't opening until August 14th. I hope to be going in November.

It's not Officially opened yet...BUT, they've been doing a "soft-opening" where they open it around 5:00 a lot of days to see how things go with the public....

Cool! I spoke to my sis yesterday and she said that we will definently go when I come to visit in November. It looks awesome. I took the test on-line at the web site for what job would you have and I got Navigator.

July 2003: Soarin' set to go?

According to some Epcot cast, they are being internally told that construction will begin in August 2003 on a clone of DCA's very successful Soarin' attraction. Current information suggests that the attraction will be built in-between The Land and Imagination, and using Food Rocks as the preshow/queue area. The entry to the attraction would be from inside The Land. Opening date is set for 2005. Remember this information has not been officially announced yet, and as always is subject to change.

Soarin' Over California is a suspended simulator ride. In other words, you're hanging below the simulator, sort of like on Raptor (although not as exciting!). The screen shows images of flying over various parts of California. It's a very enjoyable attraction -- one of the best at California Adventure. (However, I must say that I was very disappointed with California Adventure, so being the best there really isn't too much of a challenge!) Of the California Adventure attractions, however, I'd rather see them copy Grizzly River Run. In my opinion, that's one of the best river raft rides I've yet to experience.

(Islands of Adventure's Bilge Rat Barges is another great one. Of course, that's owned by Vivendi-Universal, and, along with all the other Universal assets, is currently being bid upon by potential new owners.)

What'd you think about it?

It was incredible, it pulled about 5-6 g's on lift off and lasted about 20 seconds then you felt a type of weigtlessness that was really just feeling light from having all those g's on you. They also tilt the pod so it feels more like weightlessness. You go through a bunch of scenes and as with most rides it goes wrong alarms go off which im not going to spoil and you end up landing on mars and that is when you feel the most intense g's during the ride, 6+.

Well, I was at Mission: Space on opening day, and I rode it. I must say, it did not meet up to my expectations, allthough it is a okay ride that sure is an expirence. I mean, you really feel your cheeks pull back, but really, the ride left me feeling rather weak for some reason.

That sounds so cool, I may have to take a drive over to WDW after the last NASCAR race of the season.

Is Mission Space where Horizons used to be?

I rather liked Horizons, but it was open for a very short period of time. I actually lost a bit of respect for Disney when, on one of my visits, they told me Horizons wouldn't be open because the sponsor pulled out. Considering the amount of money that place rakes in, I would have figured that they could manage to run the bleedin' thing for awhile without a sponsor!

Oh well. Overall, I still like going to Disney. Hopefully I'll be able to visit Disney World again within a reasonable period of time, but it won't be in 2003.

Not sure where HORIZONS is/was.
Let me try to tell you where it is:
You have the Ellens Enery/Oil thing, then to the right of that is the boat ride with plants and how they grow http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/contrib/edoom/sleeping.gif

Then to the right of that is MISSION SPACE
and the next thing to the right of MISSION SPACE, is TEST TRACK.

if they want to rip anything outa EPCOT...the plant ride should be 1st to go

Thanks, Joshua.

Mousing, thanks for the attempt! To the right of Energy, however, is the Wonders of Life pavilion, with attractions like Body Wars. The place with all the plants is The Land, located on the opposite side of Spaceship Earth, next to Imagination. But, that's close enough! (Incidentally, the last time I ate at the revolving restaurant in The Land, I thought it was pretty tasty! But, that was a few years ago. On my last visit, I ate at the food court in the basement of The Land, and that was OK.)

So, Joshua, since you're familiar with the location...

Did they use the existing Horizons building, or did they tear it down and build a new structure? The image looks similar to the old Horizons building, but I couldn't tell for sure.

Alien Enchounter doesn't move, so it does not pull any G's. It can be scary the first time you go on it...total darkness and the hot breath of the alien on the back of your neck, but no G's.

Have you ever been to it?
