I never did like having Ithkul moving in on my races planets...how the heck do they eat silicoids again?

They break the silicoid down into smaller chunks and use them for minerals.
Beats wearing an "Ithkul suit" while your lifeforce is sucked from you.;)

Remember how the bad terminator in T2 was destroyed? Takes care of any living metal. Metal is a rock. :)

The only question is why the Ithkul are so psycopathic that they would convert Silicoids into minerals. (Or why other races can't do it either)
I can see they have a biological imperative to parasitize organic organisms, but why go through the extra effort to break down silicoids who have done nothing to them.
One would think that a race that is always at the cusp of flaring out in the universe would have a bit more sense than to embrace mindless destruction.

I aplaud your use of the word "psycopathic", sir. Xenophobes unite! er ... wait, that won't work. Sure other races could melt people, but as a general rule don't. Only those with a psychological need to do so have organized the necessary camps to pull it off. Maybe they even enjoy the psychic death throws. Sure, most people as individuals haven't done anything to them, but they are there and that is simply intolerable. To demonstrate one's superiority by taking a life, that is never mindless. Sadly, the master race's programming makes slaves of the master race.
Note, though I can express them, I don't hold to Ithkul views.

Hmm, some would say that the mind of the Ithkul is so alien that only an Ithkul could conceptualize and articulate an explanation.
You have posited an explanation, and therefore are capable of conceptualzing an explanation.
In addition, an Ithkul, being so versatile in its hosts, must be able to float.
Therefore, things which float must also be able to conceptualize an explanation, and if my Monty Python is correct, ducks can float, much like wood.
Now wood burns, which is what is done to witches, who it must also follow float and can conceptualize an explanation for Ithkul behavior.
I have therefore proven that you are a witch, or a duck. ;)
