View Full Version : The dreaded word........ Pending

When I look through the posts I find many people moaning about Pending. Lots of people like Pyros have tryed explaining the complexity of the selection process.

I have had Pending on all the games I have applyed for but I don't mind waiting. Patience is a virtue, as some people say. You will get accepted to a beta soon so don't worry about it. It doesn't matter if you don't get horizons but instead you get Trivial Persuit. Your here to help the dev teams to develop a better game so that they can release a game which will be a great product to the public. We are just lucky we get a sneak peak of all the games we test before anyone else.

So just wait until thos pending words dissapear and then you will be happy.

You said that well. Patient is a virtue.

Also, don't forget some betas are in stages. In you don't get in at first, don't worry, there's usually a second chance. Or third. Who knows, it might even go into Open Beta.

getting very frustrating when friends are registering for Horizons Beta and geting accepted within days while other(me for examle) have been pending since the begining. was pending for NWN and now pending for horizons both from when beta was put n these boards with no results.

We will al have to wait patiently :o. And if not accepted (going on to the next one ;) ) the developers should be ashamed of them selves.

Until then OMF:BG will do

Greetings Freerider

I know waiting is a drag but the wait should be over soon. I hope.

Random selection. It needs to choose a wide variety to ensure different machine specs and users get in, so you may just be really unlucky.

well certainly am unlucky or whatever. I check regularly, I update my info when needed atc and nary a peep back. woudl have thought they woudl at least check activity on accounts or something.

They're pulling by specs at the moment. It has nothing to do with activity, and I doubt their database has a record for last activity.

Well aware of that, I own it. I'm just seeing if it's a bug, so I'm waiting to see if another game that has gone gold still lists as "pending". Then I'll know if it's a bug or not.

Think of it this way:

The first stages of any beta are always the roughest (as far as I've seen) all the annoying bugs that prevent you from even getting the program up and running have to get ironed out, simple stuff like CTD errors and the like stalk the code like so many avenging angels. Developers are frazzled that the code they've released for testing comes back within 15 minutes with the words, "WTF were you thinking" emblazoned on it in huge red letters...in short the first stages of testing are almost invariably the worst (though I do remember one test I was in were they put in old - verified buggy - code from two years prior right before a really big almost final build - THAT was a show).

So, we might be missing the worst part, and hopefully we'll all be picked for class balancing stuff, where we can prove that a human with a rusty club can beat an ancient dragon to death if he starts at the tail. :D

This has probably already been suggested or brought to everyone's attention... But, have you checked the system requirements for that game yet? If your computer specs don't match with the specs for the pending game, odds are you won't get the opportunity to test it. :(

I get scared that sometimes BETA requests are ignored for systems that surpass it :) I mean, it makes sense to as it's out of mainstream, but never the less. :P

Andric

ya more likely system is over specced :/

Hey Atari... don't disqualify me because of my RAM and FX vid card :) My processor isn't even a hyperthreader. I'm behind the times, lemme in.

Just kidding :) (Even though my little 2.0 ghz isn't a HT processor)

What I find ammusing is the fact that the game that they invited me to test is the one thats pending and I got picked for another one insted...

Elyssia001
09-24-2003, 05:55 PM
2.0 ghz? LOL

if that's old, my 800m is ancient! which is probably the reason i haven't gotten mine... but it's important to keep in mind the "real" reason for beta testing.. it's not to have fun and test-play the game with your friends, it's to help the developers make a strong error free game for them to sell. If you happen to enjoy it, that's just a bonus for you. (crosses her fingers)

As it will be for me, if i happen to get accepted.

i agree with elyssia too. the most people want a game which will occupied them for a long time, which will give them pleasure. so it has to be our goal also to help the developers to make the game bugfree, balanced and thrilling. last but not least we - the eventually betatesters, now pending club members - will benefit from this in more than one way.

Yes. They haven't had any announcement on the main page, and no one has said a word about it yet. I think the only two in beta right now are the Unreal 2 XMP and Horizons.

i picked the ps versions of the games.

but beside that fact, my vid card is nearly brand new, my ram is top of th eline, i have huge harddrives and all sorts of awsome expensive stuff for my computer. i just have a slow processor cuz i'm stuck with an old socket cpu motherboard and i really don't have the spare cash to pay someone to replace it with a pentium 2.2 gig cpu motherboard. my husband is afriad i'll fry the computer if i were to buy it and install it myself. people have so little faith.

oh.. BTW this is my 50th post! look for my avatar in upcoming posts!:D

Elyssa the processor itself isnt hard to put in, as long as you dont use force you cant go wrong really, the real problem lies in attaching the fan. THAT is something that can go horrible wrong ;)

Some get in right after they sign up, some have to wait for months. It's random.

i understand replacing the processor is easy, it's that i will have to replace the motherboard, and then probably reformat my harddrives.

btwe, yes it takes 50 posts to get an avatar and your own title. I averaged 8 a day and did it in less than a week :p

Two weeks *hides*

Oh, on the other topic of upgrading processors and whatnot...way way easy to do and really hard to screw up. I put it off for 2 years because I was afraid but playing games in January of 2003 on a P3 450mhz with 256mb of ram and a geforce 3 mx something or other...it was time I stepped into the 21st century :) I don't regret it.

Replacing the motherboard was actually a lot of fun and probably the easiest bit. It was finding the right motherboard that was hard because I wasn't replacing the case. Seriously, go for it. Most motherboards come with a ton of directions and a nice, easy to understand manual to help you with BIOS settings and whatnot. Reformatting the hard drive is an unfortunate side effect (maybe, I didn't end up having to) but you'll be soooo much happier doing it, particularly when you see how cheap it is ;)

i'd reccomend getting the new case... Altec makes a great case...very user friendly, pretty much EVERYthing slides in and out
i made a new pc, got al lthe parts together...already reformatted old harddrive....and had mine up and loading WIndows XP within 15-20 minutes, i'd reccomend having a techy friend over to help if u havnt done it b4 tho

In comparison, as I was one of the first people to use the betatests.net service, and it auto signs me up for things, I've been waiting since it first was announced as a beta. And I still haven't gotten in. Luck of the draw, and nothing else.
