I'm currently newish to IG2 and I'm playing as Shinari. As of yet, I've not seen any 'other races' to do diplomitic stuff or spying stuff on yet. Is there anything I can actively to do meet another race or do I just need to wait until they pop by my way? Do I need some special hyperdrive to visit other planetary systems or is my currently 'space box' all I can go in?

Well, you can send ships far away. Even when their radar range disappears, other races will see them resulting that they will appear in diplomacy and spying.

I've tried sending a few ships to the far corners of my initial 'solar system box' - I presume that is all the space that I have to fly in?

Also, is it important to change the altitude of fleets as they fly around to try and find new planets/races, etc. or does that not matter?

Well, that is all the space. Unlike in IG1, it will not go any bigger.

I allways view the starmap in 2D, so I do not know about any importance of the altitude.

Thanks, that's useful. I'll explore my space a bit more - again. :)

No, it is a 2D only map, unlike in Haegemonia. There is no need or way to change the altitude unless you are in space combat of course.

Ah, ok.

Still not found any other races and I've been around the entire space available. Hmmm...I'm on EASY mode. Does that make meeting other races less possible?

Yes, because they only slowly expand or research new radars (that makes easier to them to spot your ships).

Try to move your ships on a spiral course around your territory (or between your territory and the centre of the map if your territory is at the corner), just like you would search for new planets, except that you can go farther (where the radar range of your ships vanishes).

Actually, on normal, it is hard to colonise more than six planets without finding the two nearest races.

If you don't find other racers they will find you! If you get good spies the same.

Yeah, I found some now. I created a new game on NORMAL mode and met two races fairly quickly. But then I got bombarded with 'tasks to do' and got all flustered.

So I went back to my EASY game and then, after 5 mins, met two races and now, after 1 hour, I have three races. I might carry on on EASY mode because I have more money. :)

Actually the EASY mode kills the game. You should really start with NORMAL. It's hard to get started that way, but clearly more fun. You need to try at least ten times the first half an hour, but after that it is more fun to explore, research and build. In easy it's like going from planet to planet and watch the miserable AI to assist your overrun. :(

You know what, you might be right! I think I'll try an NORMAL level game. EASY level is 'easier' but perhaps it's a little too easy. :)
