View Full Version : HELP!!! XP Problems with IG2
I really love IG2 alot. I recently upgraded my motherboard, graphics card and operating system all at the same time. I can install IG2 with no problems but everytime I start I get this error- Unable to load from file:screen\CHARSET.BMP And then it asks me to Generate an exception? I click yes and I get Sorry... Unhandled exception at 0x5230B1. If I click No I get nothing to happen. I have Geforce4 MX440 now
Can someone PLEASE help me out with this one? Feel free to send me a direct email please at Otiz@rochester.rr.com. I appreciate it very much and thanks.

I can help you there, I think. This is taken from the http://www.gsp.cc web site:
When I run it I get the error on Windows XP:"unable to load from file:screen/CHARSET.BMP Generate exception?"
Right Click on My Computer
1. Select Properties
2. Select Advanced tab
3. Next to Performance heading select Settings button
4. Select Advanced tab
5. Next to Virtual Memory heading select Change
6. Select 'System Managed Size'
7. Select Set
8. Select OK & Apply buttons to close the boxes and re-start Windows.
9. Try the program again
10. If this does not solve your problem you will need to follow these steps:
Repeat Steps 1-5 above.
1. Select CUSTOM SIZE
2. Enter the MINIUM SIZE (MB): as 512
3. Enter the MAXIMUM SIZE (MB): as 512 (This value can vary from configuration to configuration. Generally, a maximum Virtual Memory setting of 200MB will prevent the problem from occurring)
4. Click on the SET button
5. Click on OK
6. Close all the following windows by clicking OK
7. Restart your PC
I had to do the 'extra step' to make mine work.
After toying with it I finally got the game to work. WOOT!!! Thanks so much- now my wife can stop bothering me about some sleep music. The Solarian music track roXXors. I just load game and hit the Esc key and let the music play. Good relaxing music to listen to while sleeping. Thanks again Ozental. :P

You can easily play it with WinAMp!

Yeah, all the music is in headerless mp3 format, all you need to do is just changing the extension to mp3 of the music files.

Sorry Karthik to mess up your thread, but it sent my message when I asked to show a preview. It wouldn't format me right, and wouldn't let me delete it! Help!
Edit: All right I managed to format the text. The buttons give wrong meta commands!
It's a really great idea!
I have some problem with the IG2 on XP. I followed the advices, but it is still the same. Then I found the cracked (and unpacked) version of IG2, so I copied the files to the IG2 directory. From now on I only get the "Unhandled exception..." message all the time... I was thinking about that maybe my Video card isn't compatible with the game? (Gef3 Ti200 64 MB)

nVidia? DirectX? Me compatibility? What error message do you get without the crack?
As I said: The "Unhandled exception at ...<I don't know what>".

R U sure there were only 2 levels to download?, cuz I'm pretty sure there was at least a Skirmish level as well besides those two.

I love your system specs! :D  But killing that machine with XP :bulb: (if anything can kill that machine) that's not fair. (I mean for gaming). WinMe is for gaming, double FPS on everything!
