Frequently Posted Question for Imperium Galactica

1) Where can I buy Imperium Galactica 1?
CD Access (http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/impergalpr.htm)(Sold out at the moment try Amazon)

2) Where can I buy Imperium Galactica 2?
Global Software Publishing (http://gsp.fs-server.com/index.php?page=pages/product&prodID=477)(Discontinued try Amazon)

3) Are there any patches for IG1 and IG2?
Imperium Galactica 1 patch version 1.3 (http://www.digitalreality.hu/index.php?process=select_game&item=4)
Imperium Galactica 2: Alliance patch version 1.06 and 1.08(install 1.06 followed by 1.08) (http://www.digitalreality.hu/index.php?process=select_game&item=3)

4) Can IG1 run on Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000/XP?
It can run on Windows 95/98/98SE if you reboot to DOS mode. Getting it to run on Windows ME/2000/XP can be tough. You need to use software like VDMSound or DosBOX.

5) Where can I get VDMSound and DosBOX
VDMSound (http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/)
DosBOX (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1)
Keep in mind that both programs are still in beta stages and require really powerful PCs to run them.

6) Can IG2 run on Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000/XP?
It can run on Windows 95/98/98SE/ME. For Windows 2000/XP, set your virtual memory min and max settings to 512MB. This should also fix "unable to load from file:screen/CHARSET.BMP
Generate exception?" error.
An alternative way is to download patch version 1.08 which you can get here. (http://www.3dgamers.com/games/imperiumgalactica2/downloads/) Look under the download section of the website.

7) Are there any downloadable contents?
Only for IG2. The two scenarios are "Payback" (http://dlh.net/getfile.php?40:/pc-patches/general-patches/ig2paybk.zip) and "Second Chance" (http://dlh.net/getfile.php?40:/pc-patches/general-patches/ig2secnd.zip). To play them, unzip them to the "DATA" directory, then choose scenario from the main menu and you should see the missions at the bottom.

8) Why can't I connect to the multiplayer server?
The official server has been closed down. However there are alternatives servers. Simply type this into your "Connect To" box in IG2:
mesra.kl.my.dal.net:6667
irc.imperiumgalactica2.hu
chat.founders.hu
195.70.37.211

9) Setting up a match is very difficult. Is there anyway to see the different timezones?
The best place to go is here (http://www.timeanddate.com/). This way setting up a match is much easier.

10) Are there any websites dedicated to Imperium Galactica?
Science Fiction Games (http://www.sciencefictiongames.net/)
Xel's Imperium Galactica (http://www.imperiumgalactica2.tk/)
Timski's IG1 Walkthru (http://www.capsu.org/imperium/)
Stay tuned more to come soon!

5) I use VDMSound but I still don't get sound in IG1!
Full SoundBlaster compatible cards have built-in old SoundBlaster emulation on the DOS sound card port ADDRESS240/220 IRQ5/7 DMA1. Don't use VDMSound for IG1 on these cards because it may raise conflict problems!

Stay tuned more to come soon!

Sorry, but that is the German version of the patch. Since it was English, I thought it would be English, but it is not.

Looking somewhere else.

Went to Gamespot instead. Have to register, but basic is free.

Can not get the setup program to show higher resolutions, so I put in the *.ini file to play at 1024x768, but I think that it is still in 640x480 for some reason.

Oh, well!

Look it up here in the list of games, and 1.05beta is needed before 1.06 patch, since the 1.06 patch is not big enough in size to include both.

Skimish is included with the 1.06 patch.

Still do not know why the setup program with my card does not show higher resolution when I played it on my old computer with the ATI card. ??

Using a GeForce 5200 now, since my GeForce 2 would not show the game right. (White rectangles on menu screen.)

One of the best graphic games, and still looks great!
Might even get through it sometime.

Oh, the link to GameSpot:

7) Is there a way to run Imperium Galactica 1 without messing up all my configurations?
Now there is since DOSBox from the version 0.61 supports Imperium Galactica 1 with full Adlib, Sound Blaster and VGA/SVGA and even opengl features.

guys you post IG1 works with dosbox and vdmsound, if you done this successfully on your own box then please post the hardware used, otherwise you shouldn't have posted that, on dosbox 0.61 it works but needs more then a high spec pc, 1.8ghz can barely run it at half speed, vdmsound on a nforce2 soundstorm crashes everytime.

Question 5 !:p

dont know why you reffered me to question 5, because the answer to that says nothing that I dont know.

But here is what I have found out recently, the game crashes early game 90% of the time around a certian point regardless if vdmsound is running or not, if the game doesnt like your sound hardware vdmsound wont fix this, however once past this early stage the game is reasonably stable, it may still crash (even on a 486 this game was never stable) but it will be possible to play it for many hours continously. To get by the early crash either run it with sound off for the first few days of game time or run it in dosbox, just to get by the early crash, then you can run normally through vdmsound.

Now it may be true that dosbox runs the game, to be honest its far from playable, you quote really high specs needed for both vdmsound and dosbox, I found that vdmsound doesnt need any kind of powerful pc and dosbox needs an out of this world pc my guess is minimal 3ghz.

Also vdmsound is beta but it seems the development for the program is one of the slowest I have ever seen.

This may be a bad question.

I've always had trouble playing a LAN game with my brother. We like to do a 2v2 against 2 AI opponents. The AI never does anything, not even research usually. So I was wondering...

Is there a mod/patch/option that i'm not seeing that is causing or will fix this problem.

I just want AI that actually fights back.

Well it should fight back......unless you are allied to the AI!

Well...

I just got on the game and played a LAN game by myself....I noticed I couldn't change the game speed during play.

Me and my bro always used to change the game speed while playing LAN.....which isn't suppose to be possible.

I think it may have caused the AI to screw up or something.

I'll have to expirement with the game some more so I can see if the problem occurs anymore.

I've also had the problem of only finding German versions of the 1.06 patch, is there a way to get an english from somewhere other than gamespot, or do you guyz use the german patch and have it work normally.

When DOSBOX IG 1 cd-rip does not work!
cd-rip: a copy of the game cds copied to the hard drive

This method of getting it going involves using DosBox 0.63 and the D-Fend v.2 front end.

Ok, first off. If you have a copy of the game on the hard drive make sure that both CD files have been copied over to a SINGLE directory.

The game files will copy over one another since the folder names are pretty much the same.

Ok, you should be ready, with all the exectuable files (imperium.exe, install.exe, intro.exe, main.exe, and title.exe) where they need to be (in the main directory).

Use the DosBox/D-Fend to match the following -> Mount Type: CDROM, Drive: [location of the game directory], -IOC, and Mount Drive Letter: [letter of CDROM drive].

For the other set ups in D-Fend I've read a few other posts that say to keep the cycles from 3000 to 10000, also if you have the resolution set up at 640x480 than just set up full screen and you should not need to select any other option under General. (I'm informed the other options that slow down vs the benefits aren't good enough to actually select them). Priority when active is also to be set at highest (why? I dunno. I just read other posts).

That's it...

If you are having any trouble with the MOST POPULAR OF IG 1 ISSUES: the "INSERT DISK 1" or "2"....

then you sir, or maam, are missing files in your game directory. You may have a bad cd-rip. If you want to find out what you are missing then look over an iso copy (which I'm sure you can purchase and d/l online) to find out what ur missing.

Anyway, if you d/l'd one of those "free" copies that are floating around that are supposed "cd-rips," then you are most likely missing the following folders: ANIM, ATVEZETO, EQ_ANIMS, EQ_ANIMW, MESSAGE, SHIP1, SHIP2, SHIP3, SP_ANIM1, SP_ANIM2 (these are all folders filled of *.anim files).

If you want more info about this last part just email me and I'll get back to you with specifics.

HAVE FUN EVERYONE! HAHAHA! Revenge of the Lieutenants!!!:haha:
