im a big fan of sci-fi strategy games but did not buy this one until now. it looks really good though....but on the other hand so did heagemonia witch was not very good..other than the graphics. to bad there was no game to back that up. its been awhile since there has been a GOOD sci-fi strategy released. i just ordered homeworld 2 hopefully that is good. i was really looking forward to IG3 and then all the nonsense with that started. i see now it changes from galaxcy andromeda to Nexes... what next??? i read some of the posts on this site and it seems that the game might not install on XP hopefully that is not true. i have XP Pro but wont have time to install the game today.

Imperium Galactica 2 wont leave you wanting :)
I have XP pro and have no trouble running it - see the thread on cinematic problems if the movies "stutter" :)

I have XP pro, too
And its running without problems.

But the first thing you have to do, is to find the patch 1.06 in the internet. Without the patches, the game really sucks hehe

And don't expect to much from the singleplayer. There are still some bugs in the story and problems. But the multiplayer and scrimish is perfekt hehe

so, when you are good enough, we can play in multiplayer

well the game seems to be working just fine and i have a couple questions,,, when you first start a game ( i'm talking about skirmish) should you focus on building and developing colonies or building ships and researching? and also when playing campaigns who do you recomended starting out with?

-thanks for your info

Well you will find that you need good colonies to produce good ships and research - and good research and ships to produce/defend colonies.

My tactic is to be defensive first - build up the colonies and research while relying on tanks and fortresses to outnumber any attackers - what good is an enemy fleet if its tanks are oblitarated after landing ? when I am rich, then I build up a fleet.

As for the campaign - I like the solarians - good all round power.
experimentation is the key though - try each one for five game years !

at the beginning, there are 2 important things:

Colonies and Ships

You need to find a good way to colonize fast without loosing too much money. But you also should build some ships in the meantime. At the beginning you have just a few battleships and with bad weapons. So every ship is important. One ship can change the total war. If you have 4 ships and the enemy has 5, you will often loose. And without a fleet, he can conquer your planets.

Later you should try to research as much as you can. But in the beginning, it is important to have a fleet that is as great as the enemy fleet. Not smaller, but also not much bigger.

And one more sugestion, at least NORMAL mode, don't play on EASY! It spoils the game!

HW series doesn't even come close to IG/IG2 or even Haeg! To me HW1/HW:C/HW2 looks like C&C in space!

thanks for all the input guys and as for the homeworld comment, it wasent that bad. i have the command and conquer series, and yea they were not that great but homeworld was ok. now that i have played IG2 i would agree it is much better.

You can't compare a game like Homeworld to a game like Imperium Galactica because they're not the same kind of game. Homeworld is a tactical space simulation, it's all about combat and it's scope does not go beyond the battlefield. IG2 is exactly the opposite, it's strategic in nature and is about empire building rather than combat and let's face it, the combat is pretty weak, it might as well be simulated as it is in games like Civilization or Alpha Centauri. Homeworld is the best at what it does, so are Haegemonia and IG2, they're just two different things.

What would be awesome is if we had a game like IG2 where the battles were played out in something like Homeworld. The best of both worlds!

Yeah, I know what you mean. When Haegemonia's first trailer was released, it used the same scalling as Homeworld did. Unfortunately, using the real time scalling in an epic empire builer slowed it down too much. So they decided to give it an IG2 like scalling!

Well what's really sad is IG2 really isn't that good. There's just nothing else out there! It's a serious gap that needs to be filled, perhaps instead of making C&C clone #1038038 someone will fill it... soon... hopefully... *sigh* Don't get me wrong, IG2 is fun but personally I've never felt it did the job particularly well, just better than what little else is out there.

I totally agree thekab, if someone were to make a game like IG2 with the battles played out like homeworld it would be the best game ever made. I thought thats what IG3 might be like. the demo for that game had awesome graphics but im not sure theres going to be much empire building like in IG2. and as for hegemonia i dindnt like that game much the graphics were awesome but there was no game behind it. all it turns into is who can build the most battleships the fastest there is no need to develpe planets and really theres nothing for empires to fight over. they should have had some better diplomacy and trade and more detailed colonies. and the whole spy system is pretty stupid to. instead of wasteing time makeing an expansion they should start over and make the game better.

Yeah, it's really surprising that no companies have stepped up to provide a good space simulation outside of a combat fighter role. Off the top of my head the only game I can think of to step up is Homeworld and that's a tactical combat game, there hasn't been any -good- ones that involve empire building, economy, diplomacy, spying, etc. like IG2. IG2 isn't bad, I just would have expected better by now.

Sounds like you may have met the D-Ray, was it one weapon that suddenly annihilated your entire fleet?

taco

yeah it was like a blue laser something. one shot and a ship was gone.:weird:

I remember my first encounter well. Yes, your mighty fleet engages in battle and is suddenly completely and utterly annihilated by some stinkin' laser of doom You'll have to ask someone in here how you counter it because for the life of me I don't remember and the Solarians can't get that weapon.
