Was Imperium Galactica 1 better in some ways ??

I LOVED the starship command aspect of IG1 - managing my empire from my own personal flagship, like Grand Admiral Thrawn :) Battles would mean more because I would personally lead my forces. I would have my other forces wipe out the support ships, then the Thorin alone would slug it out with the Darglasdan command ship !

The comms portion was also great - the bridge videolink was awesome both in appearence and content ... was my wife having an affair ???? she sounded a bit dodgy with that reunion message !

Stopping traders in my space and interogating them was another point that I really wanted in IG2.

It had a better (and more finished!) storyline. With the fleet maximalisation the defenses were effective throughout the game. There was no grouping for the capital ships, so it was not possible to stop unlimited number of ships with a single special weapon. The repair required time. You were also forced to supply your fleets (rockets, bombs and lost equipment). The IG2 on the other hand has designs, auto building, spying and better diplomacy. (And heroes, but I rarely use them.) The IG2 has 3D visibility, but it costs the difference in the buildings of the species.

I liked IG1 more because it had somewhat an adventure game aspect.

ahh yes, the supply element too - that was very well thought out and realistic - every bomb and missile cost money - and this meant that some planets had employment as supply bases and therefore became more than mere population centres.

Yup definatly more of an adventure game was IG1 - you got a strategy game, an RPG and a C&C clone in the bargain :)

It must have been great because I still PLAY the first one !
Love IG2 also though, the design aspect is great and I love the 3D mode - plus the almost insignifcant ability to move tanks round planets in peacetime - I bring them onto the streets in times of low morale just for the look then return them to "barracks" after morale goes up - I am into RPing by the way ;)

Yeah, IG1 was good in my opinion. But some people see the story like a sci-fi b-movie. But it was still good. IG2 decided to cut down on the story for a more random event based story!

My only problem with the IG2 storyline is that it is unfinished for the solarians (I used to play most often). The main storyline is around the four crystals, but if you get them you will only get a long message about their headers. And nothing more. No rebirth of that tyrant and no solarian civil war. These should have been placed into the solarian campaign, but the developers said (if I recall correctly) that there were no place for these events on the cd ...
The storyline of the IG1 only missed the ending with your wife. (At least mentioning something about her eg: she remained a widow a few years before and a new 'father' was offered to her kid.)

That's right, the story was just uploaded into the memory of the android. Maybe your wife doesn't even exist, like the wife of private eye Columbo. :D

I never really got into IG2, more of it is based on battles and complex ship designs, which I dont like, I also hated the 3d battles the battles in IG1 were much better, I do like the spying and diplomacy tho, but the rest of the game to me is a dissapointment. IG1 is so good early game, then when you are admiral I feel its missing something, as grand admiral it gets a bit better again.

I think there was no missing sotryline with your wife, if you do it right and watch all the videos then you end up talking to professor reindheart on a long cut scene and he explains you was created specifically for this mission, so It's very probable your wife was just added to your memory.
