PSM Preview

There's a new DRIV3R preview in the January issue of PSM - It says there will be a bullet-time-like mode or option during car chases, which "is basically very similar to Matrix-style bullet time, but applied to car chases. By pressing down on both shoulder buttons simultaneously, you slow down the action and switch to a more cinematic, external camera. You retain control of your vehicle, and the harder you press down the buttons, the more you can slow things down. This not only looks awesome, it also impacts gameplay, giving you a leg up when things get really hairy." - There are also a couple cool wireframe images of Miami and Nice... But it says it will be released Summer 2004. Is March in the summer? :weird:

I'm not too sure the release date has been changed, but I'm going to pick up this magazine unless the new pics are posted soon and someone posts the whole article.

You must be talking about a different magazine, I have a friend who has this issue, and he says it has no DVD, and that PSM (not to be confused with PSM2) never has demo discs.

NO I got a DVD disc with trailers and such. Though the Driver trailer is a little different it is nothing we haven't seen on the net.

Thats, that should be the last question. I think I'll go try and get a copy of it sooner or later. But if I don't, its only a little less than 3 months til the game comes out, I can watch other trailers and play Stuntman and Driver 1 until then. I would play Driver 2 but I can't stand the framerate. If only it came out to PC.

Thanks for the heads up. I might go for it if I was more into a lot of videogames than just a few that come around a few times a year.

Yeah I sort of agree. Im pretty picky about games. I only get games that relate to me. Most games suck, I only go for cop games since I am going into the police academy in march (wow same month as Driv3r).

Yeah, I basically get about 5 games a year, so why buy a magazine with a bunch of stuff I couldn't care for, like Final Fantasy, or GT4 (even though it probably won't be fun, I might rent it just for all those cars). I mostly like racing games, but not ones on closed circuit courses, or simulation games. Arcade, racing through a city or small town, or getting out of the car and shooting people. The only games I'm looking forward to at all this year are D3, of course, MGS3, and GTA:SA, and probably in that order too. I'm gonna get True Crime eventually, and Mafia, just because you can drive anywhere and smash cars and shoot people, all things I like. I'm not too hyped about those games, so hopefully I'm underestimating them, if not, they really suck.

I allready beat the game (IN 2 DAYS) without loseing a mission (it's optinal to keep on going without competeing the missions) It was easy and quik i hope DRIN3R isn't as easy and quik to beat

Call me old school but games are too freakin' easy. There needs to be some depth and an actual story to follow. Then when you get frusterated pop in GTA and Kill a whole bunch of ppl

Yeah, I was kinda disapointed to find out that Reflections was gonna start this game out easy then ramp up the difficulty. I guess thats how the other Drivers were though, well, at least Driver 2, Driver 1's first mission was easy once you figured out how to do all that stuff.

Stuntman took me a month to beat 100%. That game was pretty hard, and the graphics were beautiful, unfortunately, there was no free roam in the cities after beating it, only arena mode, and that got old fast. If they just had a free roam mode like Driver 1, I'd play it everyday.

Ever PLay Desert Storm 2 too. that's not easy at all. starts hard, ends hard. i have it. it rocks, but anyway, FreeRoam ROcks on Games. even if it's just like True Crime or GTA, drive to your missions, not choose em. and most likely, they would have free roam. becuase it wouldn't be driver without it. plus why make a driving game with no free roam, just missions. I'm pretty sure they may have it. maybe it's like getaway, unlock free roam. Wich sucked. but worth it at the end.

I'm sure it'll be like the other Drivers, only one at a time, so you only start out with one city unlocked, Miami, than unlock Nice and Istanbul.

In past Drivers you had 2 cities to start off with, in this one they should have none till you beat a few misions.

I don't know why, but Istanbul doesn't seem interesting to me... probably because I've never been there, obviously, but I keep thinking it's all just a bunch of short narrow roads, no open areas... but I'm sure the missions and cutscenes will be enough motivation to get to all the cities... as long as the missions are really interesting... I wonder if that train station place in the motorcycle screenshots is in Nice or Istanbul... that's going to be really fun. I've never played Vice City, so I've only driven a motorcycle in Midnight Club II.

Dusk should be the night option, it'll start out with the sun just about to go down, and then it will and it'll be night the rest of the time, just like D1 for PC.

What would be even better along with the time of day chooser, it would star at a certain time: Morning: 6:00A.M. Day: 12:00P.M. Dusk: 7:00.P.M. Night: 10:00P.M. and it would track time lick on GTA. only each minute would be 2 seconds apart. and each hour on the game would be 120Sec A.K.A 2minutes so it would be more relistic. :D

Not much more realistic, but I'd rather have it be 5 seconds to a minute, so every 5 minute its a new hour. And I want the sun and moon to move through the sky and change the angle of the shadows. High tide and low tide, I don't really care about those, but if they want to, they can put that in there. It'd be funny to see boats sitting on sand.

I have DESERT STORM 2 also, it isn't that hard it just has alot of depth to it, alot of stuff to learn. I love the split screen in that game me and my sister can play that right threw the weekend!! LOL! Its hard to find a good split screen game now that they have the networker. Back when PS1 was the main thing there were Tons of games that had good split sreen modes. Thats why i was dissapointed to find out there was no split screen for D3 I love playin against they guy next to me.

first what do u mean free roam on getaway u basically already get free roam in the middle of missions without time but....anyways about the time and day i think it should be like vice city and just go night and day over and over including dusk ect.

I totally agree... without splitscreen, i would have stopped playing driver2 much sooner. Now, i've played it for thousand of hours with my friends. Something other game developpers can only dream about.
I love splitscreen games, but unfortunately, there are no more that good games anymore with that mode. Neither on pc.

By the way: the gaming industry is always blamed that playing computer games is asocial, people become loners. Not hard when everything becomes single games or network games. Not everyone has a superhighway cable connection to play agains other (nitwits on the other side of the planet)...

And even if LAN network is integrated, which might be nice, it's still way too much trouble to compete each other.

When you play against a human, pursuits become unpredictable. When there's only the computer as opponent, after a while, you know how it's going to handle. Even when the AI is very strong.
Like when you did pursuits in D1&D2, the pc always picked out randomly a route between 5-6 options.

DRIV3R trailers every where:D :D :D
I received my copy of OXM the other day and it has a DRIV3R trailer on it, I threw it in thinking it would be something we have seen before but no it was NEW!!!

It is set to the Destiny song, and has some very cool footage.
The two things that stood out to me the most were:

Tanner has a machine gun in hand, switches to view of brown car and from front to back, Tanner opens fire and you see 4 bullet holes shot in the trunk then the rear window blows out then the rear side window, then like 10-15 bullet hole in the doors and finally the front tire gets shot out and the car sinks.

A very cool thing to see! I can not wait to recreate it.

There is a scene where Tanner pulls up in a SEMI and stops, opens the door and gets down, I liked this because all the animation looked very good as with the rest of the trailer, I think Reflections if really pulling it off and will blow the doors of the doubters.

I taped it and transfered it to my computer, I emailed it to you yesterday and it comes back telling me your email is full. It is 7.5MB and in a .rar

So, you take the GMT time, and count +1 and then u have my time...

I guess you're in USA somewhere, well, I'm not sure, but I think I remember it's 6 hours earlier (or later?) in New York time zone than in my time zone...

In The Getaway (TG) you get a real free roam after beating the whole game. Todays kind of a foggy day, I feel like playing it now, which doesn't happen much.
