I am running Win XP on an MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo and ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card.

After blowing the dust off my old IG2 CDs and installing it, I get the following error when I try to run it:

Unable to load from file:screen\charset.BMP. Generate exception?

If I click No, it just quits.

If I click Yes, I get "Unhandled exception at 0x522601". The only option then is "OK", which if I do, loops the problem back to the charset.bmp one.

I've tried changing the directory to non-read only, but it doesn't work either way. Also tried turning the sound off in the setup, but it doesn't work either. The only display driver I can select is my "Primary Display Adapter". Sometimes it allows 640x480x16 and 640x480x32 only, other times it allows 800x600x16, 800x600x32, and above.

I've also tried patching it to v1.06, but it doesn't work either.

I also tried changing my virtual memory settings as suggested in this (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=333158) thread (both the "System managed" and 512MB options) but it did not work.

Have you also tried to change the compatibility settings?

I too am having the same problems.

And having attempted both changing the virtual memory setting, as well as XP's compatiblity mode. neither of which work btw.

I figure only thing that it could be was the drivers. Still haven't done a driver rollback, going to try that now.

BTW i have
nVidia 5950 gfx chip set.
3.0ghz p4
1gb ram

There were old threads on what to do, but now they are gone.

I think, but I do not really know, that it has something to do with copying that file maybe to the game folder or something like that, so the game can find that file, or something similiar to that.

But then, since I do not have XP, maybe someone will show up that knows.

apparently rolling back drivers doesn't help.
and i have tried both system managed, and setting VM to 512 trick as well neither of which work.

All of which is kinda surprising, since game working fine with a GeForce 3 card, but it crashes on GeForce FX, i am sure i am missing some piece of puzzle here.
