So if good performance in past tests increases your chances of being selected for betatesting, how do you increase your chance with no performance?
Also, I've read some things here about your system specs having some kind of impact on getting selected for testing...then I read something about it being random. Which is true? Are both of them true?
Being that this is my first thread in these forums...
...nice to meet everybody! :D

BTA will have to confirm how it works, but here is my view. Please note these are only my theories, and may be completly wrong.
When the rankings system is implanted, a certain amount of the testers who are within the system get in. The rest are composed of new testers, to give them a chance. For example, 40% could be experienced testers who are guarenteed a spot, and 60% of those selected new members, who have to be chosen if their hardware meets requirements, or any other demands.
As for the testing procedures, it depends what game. For example, in the Horizons beta it was if you meet the requirements, you qualify. This is because there were stress testing the servers and could afford to hold a lot of testers. However, one game may not be an MMO trying to test the servers, so they might say "We're only going to accept 1000 people". They might say "We need to test a certain kind of hardware", and set the application process to allow it to select 10% of the testers have some sort of hardware they need to test, an example being an AMD64 chip. This way, they can ensure that the hardware they need tested gets in, while the ones they have already tested repeatedly does not get in and "waste" valuable slots.
No one really knows how the next beta is going to work though. It depends on what the developers want. Hopefully BTA or the upcoming renovated Betatests.net could shed some light on this process.

Thanx a lot for the reply....
That's kinda what I imagined just wanted to know for sure.

What Pyros says is pretty accurate. The developers typically select for ssytem specifications, say a certain kind of memory card, or people who just meet the minimum requirements, and of course we'll have more matches than we need, so it's typically chosen randomly from that pool. We do hope to make some changes to the selection process in the future, but we're still working on what exactly would be the best methods.
