I figured we should start a thread to post what updates are done to the Official DRIV3R site.
The first update we got we know that these were added

-- An official Run The Gauntlet screensaver, featuring an embedded video of a clip from Episode 1.

-- An exclusive, behind-the-scenes video looking at the making of Run the Gauntlet.

-- New, 6 exclusive screenshots of the game in action for PS2.

-- NICE was added in the cities section.

RUN THE GAUNTLET
Episode 2 trailers will debut on February 26 and March 4.
Release of Episode 2 on March 11.
The 5th trailer, promoting Episode 3 will be released on March 23, (The original release date, what a tease.)
Episode 3 on April 1 as a countdown to launch on June 1.

So on every Thursday from now until the release (there is 15 of them) Post what you find here as your scouring over the site. Some people might not find everything.

15! Lets just hope they stick to the every thursday thing, and it'll be the best official site I've ever seen.

I really like the 5th screenie on the PS2 pack....looks awesome with that background....anyone know where that shot was taken from geographically in the game?

As promised, it is Thursday and we have updates.

The forums are open, and the link takes you right here!!!!
So we should be seeing a lot more traffic soon.

5 new exclusive XBOX screenshots.
Most notable: Very cool head on collision, bike jump with Tanner leaning forward, 2 pics of the director mode one has Tanner leaning into a curve on a bike.

A 3D virtual car: A 3D model of the Mustang, it would be nice if you could control it though.

New Trailer: Boy From the City

It is the unreleased trailer only it has been totally revamped with new footage and character animations. It is the BEST trailer ever!!! Tons of head on collisions, along with a cool shot of Tanner flipping off his bike. It looks really good.
Still no skid marks though :weird:

*EDIT*Also, the only link I could get to download was the mpeg, the Quicktime did not work. and the other 2 only streamed and the quality of the video is dark on all. *END EDIT*

If you see anything else, add it here.

in the xbox screen shots, there are skid marks... maybe they're still working on the PS2 ones...

So i guess the video was made with the PS2 version, some parts looked a bit edgy (don't know how to say; very Driver 2-like).

Anyway, the crashes are looking nice: small bits of junk flying everywhere. But i'm a bit dissapointed regarding those explosions, they all look the same, a bit too linear. Maybe it will change when we can finally try a demo..

stuntdriver
02-19-2004, 06:25 PM
Nice catch, I didn't see that on my first look. The white car sliding around a corner has them.

Driver the extreme network has an exclusive albeit small look at the PSM2 trailer on their site. Small and bad sound but still worth a download. PSM2 Trailer (http://driver.theextremenetwork.com/driv3r/movies/index.html)

The song from "Boy from the City" is really awesome. I also think it was from the PS2, especially bc of the way Tanner's face/head looked. Very boxy and stiff. Just me?

Well it Feb 26th and we have updates!!!!

Run The Gauntlet Trailer 3 (for episode 2) is available for download.

(Very cool, very short trailer. Shooting out of car window looks awesome. The quality looks to be taken from a video tape for some reason.)

Two characters added to the story - Jones and Calita. They both have a short description.

Create a wallpaper: You can choose a back ground, a character, vehicle, and a resolution.

In that piece of gameplay footage in the new Run The Gauntlet trailer, you can see from 1st person view of a car where it has no damage and hits the back end of another; the damage meter goes up past half. :D

Oops, I don't know why I did that. I had Tanner on the brain I guess. Fixed it.

Yeah I saw the damage meter go down by half, The damage to the front end seemed quite extreme if you freeze the image.

Also, right after you see the window get shot out, he then shots the driver and he keels over, NO sign of blood, and NO sign of a bullet even hitting him, just the motion of a guy dying.

The new updates rock!!! New cars, episode 2 of run the gauntlet and some press thingy's

stuntdriver
03-11-2004, 05:32 PM
Yes, Episode 2 is awesome, I really appreciate that they combined 1 and 2, so this way when we watch 3 we will be seeing it as a whole. Still wish it was downloadable, I guess that is what the rest of the internet is for.

The press thingy as it was called is a bunch of positive quotes from various news sources, mostly magazines.

As soon as someone finds a downloadable episode 2 let me know, unless I find it first.

matt__jon
03-11-2004, 06:31 PM
Its a bit better, the RTG episode I mean. more action at least. Maybe it'll be better when its all together, seems to short for anything to happen.

03-18-2004, 06:14 PM
Rather boring update.

We get the better Destiny trailer.
A Vette in the virtual car section.
And the coolest part is the addition to the music, now we get to here what Reflections music sounds like.

I like the "Darkness in Nice" Track.

Classic_Muscle
03-18-2004, 07:01 PM
Yeah boring indeed. I like the virtual car update but I have already seen the Euro Destiny trailer. However I haven't heard the new song...I don't have audio on my computer.

PSgamer262

:D Thanks for mentioning the music, I didn't notice...

PSgamer262
03-18-2004, 08:08 PM
did anyone notice the man hanging upside-down in the new trailer? it's in the garage where the guy is standing and the car pulls out... kinda like an artwork picture I saw on Bud Ugly's site - it's 2nd pic in the Concept Gallery here (http://members.cox.net/leekirkham1/Driver3/D3_screens.html)

Vide
03-18-2004, 08:42 PM
Yeah, I saw the person too. Could it be a key character or just some poor sap? Wait and see I suppose.

matt__jon
03-18-2004, 09:17 PM
Yeah, thats the same guy from the very first screenshots. Now we see the cutscene in motion with the early 90's Continental in it. Could this be an even bigger hint that the game might have newer cars, since Reflections put it in a video on their own website? I thought there'd be more too since we wouldn't be getting a gauntlet trailer this time, I thought there'd be 4 updates, but I guess if they're gonna have one every week they gotta space it out. Its better than the NFSHP2 website, which said more soon and never got updated again.

Also, I'm pretty sure the music that has the city names in them is going to be the game music, looks like we get a little better variety this time. Hey, its Driver, no ones expecting much out of the in game music. Just turn up the engine sounds higher than the music so when the sfx and music levels are equal you still mostly hear the engine.

stuntdriver
03-18-2004, 09:22 PM
Yes, the updates on the DRIV3R page are quite generous. Compared to most other sites.

Classic_Muscle
03-18-2004, 11:07 PM

I have got to fly to New York right now so I will miss the update today:(

I will return late Saturday. I hope to return to some cool news.

A little info on the demo possibly.
At Atari's Transformers US web site right on the front page they have posted:

PLAY TRANSFORMERS!
Demo disc available on Official Playstation 2 Magazine issue #81 on sale in May.

The game is released May 11th so that is only a short window. Hopefully DRIV3R's demo is released much earlier.

Watched the interviews with Michelle Rodriguez and Michael Madsen. Sounds like Michelle is very enthoustatic about the replay feature. I hope the editor will be strong enough, with many cool options.
In the earlier versions, cameras would sometimes freak out completely, making it pretty hard to make the video you want.. Especially with many angels, cameras and long video's...

Michelle is hot by the way.

matt__jon

UPDATES, you gotts love UPDATES!!!

The FULL movie of course.

5 new exclusive XBOX screens.

Motorbikes in the vehicles section, New virtual car. And cool new music.

You gotta wonder what the updates are going to be like now that we have the full Run the Gauntlet film.

I can't wait to see some gameplay footage and Making of the game footage.

And maybe, just maybe, whent the games is to be released for XBOX and PS2, we might get a downloadable PC demo.

I can not get my rating past DRIV3R:(

The desk top icons pack is pretty nifty.

Baccus (looks like the guy from the Fast and the Furious movie)
And Jericho (a bad man) Have been added to the characters.

Well that's about all.

Just can't wait to deform some more cars:D

Are you guys going to cry because Reflections isn't putting up really cool stuff on their site? For crying out loud, be glad they have a site that works, let alone one that is updated weekly.

So they put in a joke showing exactly how much has gone into making this game. They meant it to be humorous, not something for you to bash them with. Give them a break. They're working their asses off to get us the best game possible. Plus, the minute you get the game in your hands you'll forget all about the Driv3r web-site and their apparent lack of quality weekly updates since you'll never come back again.

Exoskeletor
04-15-2004, 06:47 PM

LastVigilante
04-15-2004, 08:04 PM
I think we all may be overlooking a very important revelation brough about in the text of the "Driv3r under the hood" update.

To quote:

"At the time of finishing the game Reflections were using 354 GB of RAM.

·At the time of finishing the game Reflections were using 14.5TB of desktop storage space.

·At the time of finishing the game Reflections were using 4TB of storage space.

·At the time of finishing the game Reflections were using 22,656MB of total video RAM."

See something similar among all of these facts?

How about the phrase "At the time of finishing the game..."!

That means that the game is officially done, finished, finito. What they have now is what we will be getting on the disk in June!

Unless some major catastrophe strikes, it is out of Reflections' hands and in the hands of Atari. Get the instruction manual made, printed, the cover art printed, the disks burned and printed, all the advertising and promotion in full swing, and get the darn game out onto the shelves! Yeee hAW!

And good lord, its only APRIL! I'm about near gonna soil myself in anticipation for this game! I say we all just skip May, thats not an important month, just my college graduation to miss. Just go right on into June!

The wheelman is [almost] back!

PSgamer262
04-15-2004, 09:29 PM
Actually, it turns out that isn't the only update this week - notice the bottom and you'll see your second 'update' right there. Somewhere around the big "M" you should find it.

matt__jon
04-15-2004, 09:42 PM
I don't see anything around the big M unless it is the big M you're talking about, and I already saw that earlier.

So I guess the game is just gonna sit at Atari for the next month and a half. Maybe they'll surprise release it 2 weeks early or something. Probably not.

Classic_Muscle
04-15-2004, 10:00 PM
I'm still happy to know it's "M." It gives off a warm fuzzy feeling....just knowing that they will have tons of violence.

I knew they would finish it earlier than expected. That gives them time to relax and play the full game for fun.

LastVigilante
04-15-2004, 11:23 PM
I also experience the warm fuzzy 'M' feeling.

Mmmmmm..... 'M'.

stuntdriver
04-16-2004, 12:29 AM
I knew it was going to be Mature rating for a week. But I thought for sure they were going to shoot for a Teen. I guess killing innocent pedestrians and cops is warrant for a M rating. Either way, the game will not be gory, it will just be characters falling down with death animations once shot or hit with your car. NO blood.

If the game only had criminals in it it would have been T, but what fun would that have been. So it will be a soft M and maybe parents may let it slide.

Just tell your parents that this is a Hollywood game and the characters are actors pretending to be shot. Not far from the truth really.

As to all the info in "under the hood" I like that kind of insight and look forward to more. I will keep going to the site on Thursday regardless of the previous update because you never know.
I agree with matt and would like to see some kind of lengthy making of documentary, perhaps a multi-part download over the next few weeks.

PSgamer262

matt__jon
04-16-2004, 03:20 PM
I wonder if they're testing it for bugs more thouroughly now. Well, here's hoping they got everything right. It would be ashamed if they stopped working on it when they still had another month they could've tweaked everything.

I think I'll go reserve it in case they do send it out early, so I'll get a phone call from them saying your games in.

stuntdriver
04-16-2004, 04:18 PM
Yes, they are definitely playing the H3LL out of it to search for every possible glitch.

There is a saying in the industry "80% of the time is spent developing the game, the other 80% is spent fixing the bugs"

Remember, a game is just a very complicated program.

Exactly, many a time has a game been pushed back due to its ambition plus all the bugs that come with doing it. Especially on such a grand scale. Such as DRIV3R.

Be very happy Atari gave them the time, the money, and creative control for the game you will be playing in June.

Well the site has been updated again, and it is yet again kinda weak. You get a new crash car and a new virtual car.

the crash car is a taxi and I feel the damage looks somewhat silly. Mainly the roof and how it crinkles like an accordion.

MaHoMeT
04-22-2004, 10:40 PM
we don't get any new trailer =(, they spent a lot of money on the Run the Gauntlet video so they will probably let this on there for a while =(

matt__jon
04-23-2004, 07:21 AM
Yeah, same thing I thought about the roof. I wish on crash my car, they had a video from in the game of the car crashing, its no fun moving a mouse quickly over the screen watching the car being destroyed.

But it does look like real-time damage because you can see the warping of the images on the polygons when they change shape from damage.

PSgamer262
04-23-2004, 05:36 PM
yeah, well they can at least make it so only the area of the car you put your mouse over gets damaged...

There is some good to the delay. This means we will get 3 more updates on the site. They did say it would be updated every Thursday up until the release.

also, this ups the chances that we will get a playable demo before the release. A good chance we will see it in the July issues of OPM and OXM as they will come out in early June.

I would still rather play the full game but what can you do?? Just wait and hope Atari and Reflections treats us well with awesome goodies up until DRIV3R goes gold and ships.

5 new XBOX screen shots. #1 is cool how the door on the car is forced down, bent frame?? and is that a skid mark I see??? The rest are good. The detail is amazing, plate no.'s and such. I like the Lambo and the Rig as well.

I guess none of you have noticed that the site has changed its name. According to the new screens, it is now www.div3r.com

Sites been updated as it is Thursday after all.

New PS2 screenshots PACK 04. Which are very impressive. Namely #2 and #5.

Then there is a downloadable mini-book witch is useless as it is nothing new. Although it does confirm that there are 70 vehicles all city specific. Which we all pretty much new that anyway.

So yet again a boring update. I would really like to see some new exclusive game footage as weekly updates.

OK, once again, nothing exciting. 5 new Xbox screens and a new crash my car.(Corvette) The car really gets destroyed in this one. Again, in one of the screens, you can't see a tree through the window.

I don't think the music is that good at all.
I think it all sounds the same, it's too repetitive
:(

Thats what I was thinking, I couldn't stand the first song, so I switched to the second, couldn't stand that, so I turned it off.

Today's update wasn't too bad. The 'Crash my Car' was pretty cool. I liked the 'Soft Top' gameplay video.

I liked (or should I say licked again:haha: ) the video as well. I thought the crash at the end was very close to real life.

Did anyone notice it says Rating Pending down at the bottom again?

stuntdriver
06-03-2004, 05:02 PM
Yeah, I had a feeling this game was going for a T and they deserve it, it is not violent. Especially when you compare it to other T rated games.

no fair!... i like M.

It will still be the same game, they are most likely battling with the board pointing out examples and such proving DRIV3R is T material, and if you think about it a T will make this game sell even better as it is not limited to whom can buy it.

This is probably another big factor for pushing the date to the 21st.

They'll have to change the commercial too, it already says Rated M for Mature at the end.

PSgamer262
06-03-2004, 05:18 PM
eh, I like feeling "mature" :D. What motivation does the ESRB have to change the rating of a game anyway?

They'd have to change alot of things (not in the actual game)... maybe they've already printed the box art - or do they do that later?

stuntdriver
06-03-2004, 05:24 PM
Because if you know anything on the ESRB they are not to reliable at rating games, I have read that they just take a synopsis of the game and rate it from that. Not even playing it. Plus I am sure the ESRB is a lot like the MPAA and if you do not like what they say you can resubmit it and change little things here and there to come to a compromise.

PSgamer262
06-03-2004, 05:31 PM
yeah, I think the developers send a video footage of the most extreme content from the game, and then the ESRB analyzes it.

I'd like to see that video.

Yeah, 5 old screens, a new crash my car, and a new gameplay video of the yellow convertible mustang driving around doing driveby's. I need to watch it on my other computer to get a decent framerate though. Why can't they just let us download it, I want to watch it more.

Ford Econoline

Im checking it out now.

06-03-2004, 10:29 PM
yea what you do is send in a video to esrb of most extreme content. Then the ordinary people give a rateing. he developer has to fill out a several page survay for the game too.

and then you get you little "packet" with the rating in it.

And if you dont like it, you can change your game and send it in again.

there are fines and penalties for if you dont send in the MOST extreme content.

They talk about it all the time on G4techTV. There's some show that talks completely about ratings that I saw one time.

Driv3rKing

they will also have to change their magazine ads to cause in my PSM magazine it is M.

stuntdriver

And after all this talk and speculation it could just possibly be a glitch on the webpage.

i was just thinking do u think it might be because of the Cellphone and N-gage version because they have Sorrent on the official site now and those 2 versions might not be mature because u wont have the awesome cinematics in those games i dont think. i know the cellphone version is a top down look so they probly arent the same. they have the same storyline still though i think.

say the console and pc versions are Mature but the cellphone and N-gage versions are Teen or somethin so that cant have the just the M rating on their site because then it looks like all the versions are Mature so maybe they are workin somethin out to have 2 different ratings on their site or somethin like that. or maybe it's nothin like that and i have no idea what they are doin and y it doesnt show M anymore.

Hey, theres a survey on the D3 site now, and the taxi crash my car has been upgraded.

06-06-2004, 08:05 PM
Oh well it popped up for me the second I went there, do you have a pop up blocker on? It closed it if you do. If not, then they probably accidentally added it to the site and then took it off.

stuntdriver
06-06-2004, 08:14 PM
Pop-up blockers were the problem. Thanks, didn't think about that, I keep them on all the time. I even have to shut them off to view the ign vids.

matt__jon
06-06-2004, 10:30 PM
yeah, I have a problem on my other computer now, some kind of virus or something, where it freezes up on the internet on sites with pop ups. It seems to work better with pop up blocker turned off, the virus must've effected the pop up blocker. damn thing, it happens all the time, have to keep restarting and going through the blue screen thing.

As yet another update today with some nice vids and they threw in some XBOX pics.

I like the fact they say the DRIV3R soundtrack is available.
