View Full Version : So I deleted Everything...
Pezman

Well, I accidently deleted this forum today. I was trying to add wabisabi as your new moderator and remove myself and accidently removed the forum instead.
I've spoken with my All-Star programmer and he thinks he can restore "most" of the posts, so we'll see what is possible.
Sorry about that.

:eek: Alright, well as long as we don't lose everything I don't suppose it's too bad. Good luck with the recovery!

For one thing, who's Wasabi? Not sure if I'd feel comfortable with an unknown moderating this place of honor.
And the other thing: aah! What the <rest of message lost due to some internet error>

I prefer "Crack programmer," and I'm not yours anymore, PDzman

lame
ranger... since pezman is only our mod because every forum has to have one nominally, and only ever pokes his head in here personally to apologise for a new screwup or warn of the next liberty hes preparing to take... how exactly is he our "familiar" moderator, and what difference does it make?
im more interested in why we need a new mod. we never needed one before. whats the new guy do thats so special?

Easy guys, we don't need to give the admins extra grief over this. Stuff happens, and they're doing everything they can to get everything back to status quo. Patience.
Give pez as much grief as humanly possible

Is there an explanation why our avatars are still there but the posts are all gone?

Zuh? I'm not following you - how do avatars have any connection whatsoever with existing posts?

MajorTom, the user accounts & avatars are kept in the main user list for the whole Atari games forums.
I think if Pezman had deleted that, then he'd be in really serious poop.
Do we get some favours from the mods/admins for this?
I've been meaning to get my nick changed to Hoom for a while...

That would be cool - I'd rather like to be Sh0dan, heh heh.

I'd like may post count to finally cross 10000. I 've crossed it so many times, but just before it happens they clean out whatever forum I'm in and I don't get there.
Sporry for drunkpost, I'm gonna go see what's happenin at Columbia.

Poor Dreaddie :( Every time you say "I'll never get over 10k!", I keep thinking "nonsense, you worry for nothing!"
And yet, somehow, something always happens...

I'd probably be near there now but everyone suddenly wanting a great postcount made that dream burst.

To be honest I was just being obnoxious and trying to add some grief to the thread for the mods.
Theoretically though, User data could be part of the Forum ID structure and not in a serarate glob somewheres.
Anyhow, a new nick for our Mod could be something like
"ReniVePlu"

Pezman, you rule man ;)
anyway i doubt forum can be restored if it's not backed up

- these days users are ALWAYS in a separate table so no worries about that :) but theoretically yes you can put them together with the forums ( if you are looking for trouble:) )

Yep, Dreadie's definitely jinxed - we need to call the Santero for a cleansing. Now, where did I put that vial of rooster blood? :p

Smooth, now, I have no past and I have no future. And my present is an accident. :weird:
You sure this is not some master plan to kill IW forums all togehter? You not far off with 'accidents' like this.
Er, Gunboat, you know, this post count thing is getting to be, a wee bit, predictable, just spam some porn. If I did it, why not you. :D

Poor Dread? What about me? Crud I've been posting here for 4 years or so and I have yet to get over the 600 mark!! Every time I get close to it, we merge forums or get pruned or something! I'm back down to .20 posts per day! :mad: ;)

Bablefish says: Forum rien ne va plus = Forum nothing no longer goes

Why wouldn't they?
The Atari forums are like the biggest forums on the net & are running on really serious kit, I can't see how they could do that & not have backups.
Mind you I can't see how the administrator could accidentally destroy the whole forum when trying to simply swap moderators...:bulb:

Well, I've had an admin try to remove a moderator on my forums and accidentally delete the user, so... I'd have to say, though, that undeleting a user is a bigger mess than replacing deleted posts when you have a propper backup. I don't really see what's so hard about it. Just create a new mySQL database, load the backup into the database, come back in 3-4 hours when it's done, then run a short little script something like:
<?php
$connection=mysql_connect('localhost','username','password');
mysql_select_db('databasename',$connection);
$result=mysql_query('SELECT threadid FROM thread WHERE forumid=137');
$threadids='0';
while($thread=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){
$threadids.=','.$thread['threadid'];
}//endwhile($thread=mysql_fetch_assoc($result))
mysql_freeresult($result);
$result=mysql_query('SELECT postid FROM post WHERE postid IN ('.$threadids.')');
$postids='0';
while($post=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){
$postids.=','.$post['postid'];
}//endwhile($post=mysql_fetch_assoc($result))
mysql_freeresult($result);
mysql_query('DELETE FROM post WHERE NOT postid IN ('.$postids.')');
mysql_query('DELETE FROM thread WHERE NOT threadid IN ('.$threadids.')');
?>
Then, delete all the other tables, do a mysql dump, delete the part where it makes the tables, then import it into the real DB.

Well, nukeing would create radioactive fallout, and I am sure in some cases this would lead to impotence of some sort, but shrinkage? Perhaps a case of severe leprosy?
It's not how big you are, or how beautiful you are, it is what you do with it that matters the most... :bulb:
