Uh, has anyone noticed that the release dates for both are the same? Which one are you guys going to pick up? Or both?

Does anyone have the number of those scientists in Korea - I need to get myself cloned, pronto! :)

Since I don't have a lot of time for MP, I'll probably pick up 2k4.

I love BF1942, so I'm thinking I'll get BF:V.

Waiting for good MP games is like waiting for a bus - you wait for ages and then two come along at the same time. :)

I love BF:1942 as well, but I'm hard pressed to say that UT2004 is much more enjoyable. It seems well balanced and has loads of play modes (does anyone ever play anything bar conquest in BF?? :D).

Whats the release date anyway?

I've already preordered UT2k4 so that will be the first game I get. I'm having a ton of fun with the demo at the moment.

With that said, I'll most likely get them both. BF1942 was/is a great game made even more so with the mods that came out. Lag is inherent to where I live though so while I would like to play in the huge matches that BF provides, it will most likely be a single player game for me.

does ut2004 have bots that play well, and use the vehicles? if it does i might get it one day, when i can run it. bf vietnam doesnt interest me.

Both. Being a game reviewer has it's advantages :)

Though I will probably be too busy with Steel Battalion: Line of Contact to look too closely at either for a little while.

I may end up getting both. In the meantime, the Eve of Destruction (Vietnam) mod for BF1942 is keeping me going, although if I hear the Ride of the Valkyries one more time I'm gonna start TK'ing. :p

@Red_Hex

I'm surprised at how well the bots play in UT. Much better pathing and instincts than were evident in the previous releases. If you have the bots cranked up, they will use the vehicles fairly effectively. I usually let the bots man the guns and kick them out of the drivers seat if I have the option.

Yeah, Steve Polge really knows his AI coding. The UT2004 bots are so lifelike, they were featured in a BBC News article on Artificial Intelligence yesterday. Apparently most humans can't tell if they're playing the bots or other humans.

Actually, you can usually tell. The bots don't camp the vehicles or the AVRIL, and they don't spam the Voice-over-IP. :p

Yes, the AVRiL spamming has become pretty prolific. Makes flying the Raptor that bit more interesting :bulb:

Comes out on the 14th over here. I have to say I love the assault map! I'm dying to see what the other maps are like (there is meant to be one where you fly around in a space fighter for the first stage or such :D)

cool.

but since ill have the money to upgrade sufficiently at about the time that tribes vengeance is ready... there'll be no contest for my online time. ut2004 will be strictly offline play. not to mention, i have historically sucked at ut.

Tribes:Vengeance is one game I am really looking forward to, although I'm a terrible T2 player (just can't get used to the Z-axis thing). That franchise has bags of atmosphere, and Irrational has never turned out anything but gold. It's going to be well worth a look.

Yeah, it's a giant space conflict between two motherships. You have to take a fighter from your ship and infiltrate the enemy ship. The ships are also armed with turrets that can be manned. Sounds like fun.

Check in the demo directory, the full game manual's in there.
