For those of you new to this recently wiped forum, and for those old alumni who have just recently dropped by again: A little something for one and all from me: A Novel set in the Independence War Universe.

A new piece of fan fiction, called "the Meeting", set in the year 2268 (the time of the original Independence War) is now available for reading from the fan fiction menu at SoupDragon's site (www.i-war2.com) in the fan fiction section, but also available from that site's main homepage menu. It is a sequel to the story "Out in the Cold", a short story about the crew of the CNV Redoubt, also by me. The Meeting makes a few references to, but does not require the reader to know "Out in the Cold".

The Meeting has action, adventure, space battles, villains, heroes, conspiracies, tragedies, violent deaths, shipboard fighting and lots of explosions. For those who aren't into that sort of thing, it also has kissing, gardening, interior decoration, and a keen fashion sense.

Something for everyone. Happy reading!

I invite any I-War community members who have read "The Meeting", and who are willing to do so, to post a review, or comments here.

I welcome feedback and commentary, so I can get better at this whole writing thing. I am currently outlining my next writing project, but would hate to think I'm making the same mistakes over and over again. Let me know what I'm doing right, and what I'm doing wrong. Post your impressions of "The Meeting" here.

Thanks.

Remember, you can download it in pdf from Soup's site and print it off to read at you leisure, if you like.

If you're playing through I-War again, which I strongly endorse (I just did it again myself recently and have been reminded of the true excellence of this game), I suggest you read the story after you've completed the Rebus mission, or at least read and play at the same time between the Rebus and Conspiracy missions. Not only is that the time frame for the story, but it is interwoven with several game moments, some of which are subtle. See if you can spot all the I-war game references and little 'easter eggs' in the story.

I just finished reading Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander the first in his multi novel series on the exploit's of his fictional 18th century naval captain Jack Aubrey. I enjoyed the novel alot, but danged if there wasn't a captain Ferrris make an appearance near the end when they're stuck at Gibraltar. Here I thought I'd found a name that had a low probability of having been used elsewhere. The captain Ferris from the O'Brian novel is something of a wimp, too. MY captain Ferris first made his appearance in Out in the Cold in 2001, before I'd even heard of O'Brian's Master and Commander series. Sadly, it was the fact that the movie was made, and I got the first novel at Christmas that twigged me to this cool naval series.

Honestly, folks, I didn't know. I admit to being influenced by much that I've seen and read, but I really didn't try to lift anything that blatantly.
