I have too many unfinished games on my shelf to go out and buy big, like I did last year. Still trawling through Spellforce at the moment and I'm scheduled for a EoC re-run after I complete that.
With my new broadband setup *drool*, Ut2004 is pretty much a no brainer.

So far I've got X2 and DX:IW. I have my half-life 2 voucher for steam filed away somewhere, and UT2004 on order. I won't be purchasing anything else.

Rome: Total War
And of those, I'm looking forward to BF:V the most. The mods for BF1942 have been absolutely amazing.

Just received this week, IL-2 Gold pack.
(I still play Op Flashpoint every week with my buddies and I dont want to wait for OFP 2 so I am hoping Soldner fills the void)

eon5, you do know that Universal Combat is a Battlecruiser game by the feared & loathed Derek Smart right?

I've already preordered UT2k4 so that's first on my list.
Tribes Vengenace is definitely one of the games that I'm really looking forward to. Everytime I fire up the 2k4 demo I think about how Tribes was way ahead of its time. It seems that everyone nowadays is finally beginning to understand how great vehicles are in CTF.

of course. ive long since come to appreciate my superiority (and through our forum association, yours) over the average gamer in the "kickass guaranteed future trend" department. it happens so often now its old hat; i find some implementation in a new game of a gameplay feature i loved at first sight in a b-list release 5 years ago.

Hmm, I was just hearing about battlefield 1942 from someone who's actually played it last night & it sounded really good so I think that goes on my 'to buy' list.
Though I need to get a job so I can start affording it...

Be warned that Battlefield's only good in multiplayer, the single player's just the MP with really dumb bots.

Oh?
This guy has loads of mods, so there's presumably better AI there?
He reckoned that he saw a progression in the Desert Combat mod going from bots hopping into helicopters & sitting there through to bots being good pilots

Dunno, I only played it unmodded at a LAN.

I've been playing BF1942 and its mods for awhile (since day of release, in fact :)). The bots are pretty dumb, but are good for training purposes and will give you a solid match offline. They pilot all vehicles and planes in vanilla BF very well. They suck at piloting choppers in DC and EOD (Vietnam mod), even the latest versions.
BF1942 or EOD or Forgotten Hope (WWII realism mod) are the best online experience I have had in some time, I play on clanservers or the pubs around twice a week and have been doing so for months. The game rocks online. I'm not keen on DC, but it has a huge following.
BF Vietnam is supposed to have bots that can pilot choppers well and obey orders, although I don't think they will be anywhere near as smart as UT2004 bots, based on the previews. All of the big BF1942 mods are also porting over to BFV, so I suggest it is probably your best bet.
Enjoy. :)

My wishlist is at http://users.ign.com/wishlist/Aerothorn. I'm not certain to buy all of those, but those are ones I am interested in/intrigued by and will buy if they get good reviews.
Silent Warrior

Syberia 2
Perhaps Starshatter
(Just bought Lock On: Modern Air Combat, but it was named Lock On: Air Combat Simulation. )
... Uh, what games are coming out this year, again?

Argh my link was messed up. It's http://users.ign.com/wishlist/Aerothorn . And to post em in text format (ones that are schedules to come out this year, not ones for 2005 or later)
Dreamfall (AKA The Longest Journey 2 - Syberia was a pale shadow of the greatness of TLJ)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (The gameplay is fine and all but I want this for the plot- I consider MGS2 to be one of the great plots of all time. What can I say, I love convolution, and it's the only melodrama in the entire world that I actually like).
Soldner: Secret Wars (Check the website. Talk about innovation.)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (The first game since Deus Ex itself that seems to really follow in its footsteps gameplay-wise. And I know the folks at Troika can write great stories.)
Halo 2
Psychonauts (Tim Schafer is god.)
La Pucelle: Tactics (Disgaea was the biggest suprise ever, actually taking my 2003 GOTY award, not that there was much competiton since 2003 sucked for gaming. It fell apart into melodrama in the last quarter but overall it was insanely addictive, and had hilarious writing- and this is coming from someone who has a phobia about using his PS2).
Tribes: Vengeance (Mmmm....Tribes...)
Joint Operations
Thief: Deadly Shadows (Course I'm sure it will be consolized...NO WATER...what are they thinking?)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Creepy and original.)
Half-Life 2 (This is low on my list, and I am not hyped about it, but it'll probably be good I guess)

I only skimmed, so I might have missed it, but I have to add IG3 (or whatever it's called now) to the list. I think it's supposed to coming out later this year.

Hmm, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sounds good. And are Troika really doing the Vampire game? They rock. And is Tim Schaefer doing a game? He's really good.
Argh! So many great games this year! And so little time! And it all starts this week! Battlefield: Vietnam or UT2004? Or both? :p
