If any of you are into dogfighting shows/movies, there's an anime called 'Last Exile' I started watching on TechTV. It has pretty good animation and storyline, along with cool dogfighting, and it has a good scifi/fantasy mix. If any of you are anime fans I suggest this show. If you just like dogfights mixed with submarine/battleship fights (the larger flying carriers handle like submarines in the sky) then the show should suit your tatse as well.

my mind is as open as the next ma... my minds pretty open. but whenever i see anime, i wonder if some time in japans past there was a stranger who visited every budding animator in the country and taught them all to draw exactly the same way, and at least three quarters of them to obsess about robots with guns. and the rest to draw porn involving underage girls.
the one time i got into a discussion with our local anime weirdo - and a weirdo he, and they, are, as im sure you know - and mentioned the anime film id seen and liked, called laputa, i got my head bitten off because apparently its not regarded as any good. whatever. i mean, this guy is a bona fide member of the dirty mac brigade, if you know what i mean

Laputa is regarded as a damn fine film. The guy you talked to is probably a hentai freak.

I would have to agree Redhex, save for a few things. !)each animation crew has its own style. Some anime actually has characters who look more like disney, although usually those type of movies are in the 'family' category. Even though all the eyes are drawn big and sometimes similar, each team has its own distinct style, some use digital, others use hand drawn sketches...etc.
Even in america, you can tell its from our country because donald duck, mickey, bugs, daffy, etc., all look more 'cartoony' from our perspective, I just call it goofy. One reason I watch anime is for the great storylines. Most series have caught me by surprise, considering some have better stories than most of our TV miniseries do.
But getting back to my point, you can definetely tell when a cartoon is from the US, England, or even France. Each country has its own 'attitude' towards animation. Japan just happens to take a more serious stance. And to me, it really doesnt matter, because I hold some anime up with big movies like LotR, and all humans look the same, dont they? It's all a matter of content, and quality, not how its actually drawn.
