Unable to authenticate original disk within time limit. [Archive]

I bought UT '04 on Tuesday 3/16 just as it arrived here locally. The installation went fine, but when I went to run it for the first time, my CD drive just kept spinning for a while and finally I get this pop-up message in Windows XP that says "Unable to authenticate original disk within time limit." I have two buttons I may click on that pop-up window, either "Retry" or "Cancel".

I definitely paid for this copy, and the box was sealed when I bought it from GameStop. Does anyone know why this is happening?
