I just bought this fanf'intastic game and am getting through Act 1 with no real problems so far.
Finally got my activation for these forums and all of a sudden I see there are mods everywhere!
I know from experience that many games really do get better after their loving community has worked its magic {Baldurs Gate 2 anyone?}.
So my question is: Should I mod I War 2 with some "essential" mods for a first shot through? Or do you think its best if I play it through once un-modded? I dont have that much time to play games anymore and I really want the fullest experience possible while playing it.
Opinions?

Any mods that don't modify the core gameplay, story or missions are ok, eg.
Multimod (required for running several scripted mods at once)
Multimod Location Finder
Multimod Manual Countermeasures
Encyclopedia Starmap
Custom Jafs
No Launch Sequence (May be a bug with this one - don't activate it if you carry cargo back to base docked to your ship)
Free Roam (Enable this when you play the last mission to enable free-roaming)

Them being (mostly?) mods made by Particle Systems (especially our Steve :) ) in an 'unofficial' mode so they could be released without massive testing, rather than patches which have to be requested, tested & approved by Infogrames/Atari
But then there's the crosshair mod which gives you a crosshair in the middle of the big round thing without a crosshair.
Not a computing gunsight though :(
If you want Babylon5 space fighting, the Buda5 conversion mod is what you want :)

Well, yes and no. :D
I wrote them because I had some time at the end of the project, and they were (relatively) simple things that had either been requested or I saw a need for. They were simple enough to be written as mods rather than being patches. Of course you're right in that being mods they didn't have to go through Infogrames QA, but I did get Nanoprobe and Jet to test Location Finder for me.
Another reason for releasing them was to kick-start the mod community, which is why my mod scripts were very heavily commented. In fact my first bit of pog source was released before the scripting SDK was released to give you all a taster of what was to come.
