View Full Version : Good news for sci-fi lovers
I went to a conference led by Ryosuke Takahashi and Eiji Sashida.
They said that there is a boost in sci-fi stuff in Japan. So I guess that soon we-ll be flooded by japanese sci-fi and people might be able to follow that trend in other countries.
So I guess Steve must keep the phone numbers of the dev team of I-War in case something good comes from it.
Takahashi created Gasaraki, produced Gaogaigar and collaborated in the making of Blue Comet SPT Lazner, Panzer World Galient, Armored trooper votoms and Fang of the sun dougram.
Sashida is director of central office of commerce and licensing of Sunrise.
So I guess we may expect to be reached by the sci-fi wave.
"Catch the wave", hehe.
It is gonna be great, since people think sci-fi is dead, but it is not.

I'd consider it a scifi fantasy. Science fiction doesn't necessarily mean space ships. Heck, .hack could almost be considered scifi.

GITS: SAC YEAH! And GITS 2nd GIG!
I just started dling Last Exile after watching the first episode. Very nice.
Anyone have any other recomendations? A friend gave me all 70+ Eps of Naruto, but it's a little too childish for me.
Time to break out my Gibli Collection...

Full Metal Alchemist for sure. Don't let the goofy bits in the first part deceive you, it's a very dark show with a good plot underneath. And it still has some comic moments.
Vision of Escaflowne is also quite good, though getting a bit old now.

I would love a flight sim/arcade based on Last Exile. That would be awesome.
There's supposed to be a new Cowboy Bebop game for PS2 coming out later this year as well. And, yes, in North America.

Cartoon Network's had it on Adult Swim for over a year now.
They also released a Lupin the 3rd game a couple month's back. It was pretty good.

Buh...but the cartoons are pretty, and have cool stories, cooler than what our TV has with this Joe Schmoe two crap...and most of the cartoons now-adays contain CG.
I used to be all DBZ and then i got tired of that and all the anime toonami was showing, until i saw FLCL on adult swim for the first time...now Im a...a...otaku i think (is that the right word?)...for life.
Anyways better adapt now, they say the Japanese way of life is the future for all other countries. Geeks and their cool gadgets will abound *yay*. Except I have a bad feeling the US government is gonna try to take more control over PC and video games in the next decade too...so the future seems both cool and sometimes worrysome. Oh well scifi now, worries later :D

Some people put it that way, but I choose to be less of a nerd and simply call myself an anime fanboy, since that's what the word means anyways.

I already live a semi-Buddhist way of life (vegetarian, meditation, herbal teas, etc.). When I get my own place. I'd love an older Japanese style apartment. Strangely, I feel more comfortable sitting on the floor when eating.

im most comfortable eating on the couch to a good movie.
granted: its probably a bad thing i have good tv associated to eating, but im still thin.
also: i also wouldnt mind an apartment like that. (i'd still eat meat tho)
Want some cool CGI mecha battles?
Watch Macross Zero. Japs are working on episode 4 right now.
The problem of people who don't know about anime is they think animated stuff is for kids. It is as true as thinking that playing computer games is childish.
I encourage people to learn a bit more about anime.
If you want some movie that is story oriented in the scifi arena, watch "Wings of Honneamise". That's a really good movie to start from. It portraits a world with humans but in this case being an astronaut is not a charmy thing, but it means you were to be a pilot and you got stuck in the middle. In that world military are basically manipulative, and there are some thoughts about philosophical issues.
The storyline is being developed around the first trip to space.
I bet you are going to enjoy that movie if you are lover of non commercial movies and good plot.

I just find pics of cartoon sci-fi hardware less interesting than pics of models/cgi/physical prop sci-fi hardware.
A fair few bits of what little anime I've seen, I'd love to see in cgi or live motion, but they are cheapened by having the decreased image quality of being cartoon.

whats wrong with being thin? did i miss some social collapse where obesity is worshipped like a 50 cent gou'ald *****?
:p
geeks can be in good shape too.
arrrse

No, Obesity is worshipped via the sacrifice of $$$ (gained via the cult of Capitalism) at the temples of Fast Food & Supermarket TV Dinners.
Point being (I think) that if you're in good shape he wants to see pics :weird:

Wow, really well done series. I'm just trying to figure out how/if it fits into the original Macross storyline. If it does, it looks like a prequel.
Now we have to wait for episode 4.
