As most of you may know, the Scifi network has produced two of the Dune books as miniseries, Dune and The Children of Dune, which premiered several months ago. Speaking of which, both series were shown back-to-back on April 11th (a full 12 hours of dune). There is now a petition going on in hope that Scifi will produced the third chapter of dune, The God Emperor of Dune. Personally, I think that the previous two were outstanding and I believe that Scifi should continue on with the saga. Here is the Petition (http://www.PetitionOnline.com/goed/). So far it only has 450 signatures but hopefully that will grow much larger. :D

I've signed it, but unfortunately, I don't think it will do any good. While the first miniseries was the most watched programming in the history of the SciFi channel, I do not believe the second one did very well as far as viewership goes.:( We may never see a third miniseries, and God Emperor was my second favorite book of the series (to the original of course).

Oh, well, I at least have the first to parts on DVD.:)

Consider yourselves lucky to get it at all. No Sci-Fi channel in Australia; just pathetic re-runs of Star Trek and all the rest on TV1. Erg.

book > original movie > miniseriesI'm sorry to say that I thought the original movie just plain sucked. That makes my opinion: book > miniseries > original movie.

I really liked the movie (except the 'ornithopters' :( ) & the book was rather boring.
Haven't seen the miniseries (only copies I've seen are region 1 & I'm region 4)
Movie > book

Children of Dune was excellent - much better than the first miniseries, and I love the soundtrack.

I'm willing to bet good money that part of Children of Dune's weak ratings was because tens of thousands of idiots boycotted it due to Susan Sarandon and her political views.

The scifi.com message board was swamped with people organizing boycotts and truckloads of people eager to let it flop because she was "Saransaddam" and "supportive of the death of Americans" :weird:. An oddly high number of those notoriously dangerous Canadians were also going with it

****ing canadians. they should all be clubbed in the head and skinned while theyre still alive.

I liked the Directors cut of the Original Movie. I wish they'd released that version to DVD (Was Laserdisc only). :(

I did like the Children of Dune, I thought it was well done, but I missed the first mini series. I'll have to rent it sometime.

Maybe this was true once, but no longer. You can definately get the directors cut on DVD now. I won't be getting it however, as I already bought the original...

I think I've only seen the directors' cut, so I guess it could well be:
Directors cut > book > movie

#518 and counting.
I love it when posts near and dear to me come back around. I loved the original movie because I read the book and understood it. Sure it was different than the book, but at the time the production values were excellent. When I saw the directors cut I could not beleive how much wonderful material was cut out of the original. The baby worm, water of life scene was incredible. Just so you understand, the sci-fi miniseries was very good and I own both of them (Children of Dune was actually better IMO) but I always felt that if you had the original movie characters and sets with the length and special effects of the miniseries you would be close to Dune perfection. Lets also sign a petition to David Lynch to give us the Directors cut of the original Dune with updated special effects (trend starter George Lucas). Maybe they can remove the Sting "winged" jockstrap scene.....ewww.

theres a directors cut?

didnt know that. is it shown on tv? or, is it so amazingly superior to the non-directors cut that it might warrant getting on dvd? amazingly superior, mind

Hey, i love Dune, but Im not sacrificing any of my many canadian friends in the name of a miniseries :D. Also, too many canadians play mechwarrior, so the community would just die out. I cant live without mech.

But a third miniseries would be great...just need to get to the third book first... I think i hav a copy lying around somewhere that I never read (bad habit of mine). Hmm fish filets are calling, possibly burning, cya guys later :).
