How far do you think you should have to travel for a job. Its just that i'm considering appiling to Alton Towers for a job this summer. However its over an hours drive away. Fine for a day trip but for nearly everyday? Anyway what do you think.

Personally, I detest commuting, so I bought a house that was just 4 miles from my office. Naturally, that was the invitation for my company to move me to a different office which is 31 miles away, requiring a 45 to 60 minute commute each way. D'Oh! (Well, to be fair, I remained in offices that were within 5 miles for most of the past 11.5 years. I'd move, but I'm supposedly on a "temporary" loan to my current account, so I could be back in my hometown in 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or 1 decade. I just don't know.) On the other hand, my girlfriend's commute is even longer, but she doesn't mind it.
So, it's all up to what you find to be an acceptable commute based upon your tolerance for commuting. Also, keep in mind that some of your earnings will be going to pay for your transportation. If you're driving your own vehicle, don't forget to include wear and tear in the transportation cost. If you're able to use public transportation, you won't have to worry about the wear and tear, but the transportation time is completely out of your control.
Good luck in your decision!

Well they have a varity of jobs on the website. Obviously I'd like to be a ride controller but i suspect that at 18 they might not trust me to do that. And to be honest I can work a till nearer to home. Petrol shouldn't be too much of a problem, my Micra only has a 1ltr engine. I use about a 12th of the tank there and back. I was looking at ride assistant but they are only full time at the mo. Don't know why.

My commute is 45-60 minutes each way. Personally, I'd really have to like a job to drive much further than that. That's a whole lot of time you could be doing something else.

Besides the petrol costs, don't forget costs of wear on the tires, brakes, oil changes, coolant changes, etc. There are lots of parts of the car that are affected by the commute. (I work in the auto industry, so I've got very good exposure to such things! Plus, I just spent nearly $500 for new brake pads, new calipers, machining the rotors, and a new tie rod. Ouch! On the plus side, I can stop much faster now!)
With a little study, you can find out the average life expectancy in distance of many of the major components of your vehicle. (Tires and oil life are relatively easy, but they're only a small part of what will wear down over time.) Once you find out that information for your vehicle, you can compute, based on distance, about how much your commute is costing for vehicle wear. Add that to the price of fuel, and you've got your estimated total commute cost.
(For simplicity, you could find estimations of useful distance life of the vehicle, then compute the costs from that based on the price of the vehicle, but such information wouldn't include standard maintenance costs, such as tune ups, tire rotations, tire replacements, brake replacements, oil changes, transmission fluid changes, brake fluid changes, coolant changes, etc. The more information you can include, the better your estimate will be, but it's also more work to get more information!)
Of course, if you really like the job, then the costs become less important!

Well I enjoy driving but I think the commute might be a bit to far. Especially as they don't appear to have any good jobs going (a lot of the jobs could be done closer too home just not in a theme park). Plus the extra costs of wear and tear on the vehicle. I think I might be best leaving it.:(
