Last weekend, there was a tragic fatality at Rye Playland, when a 7 year old girl fell off Mind Scrambler (commonly known as Scrambler, or known in RCT as Scrambled Eggs) when she apparently got on her knees and turned to wave at some friends, then flew out of the ride.
I wonder what effect this accident has on Ed Markey. He wants government oversight of the amusement parks, yet America's only government-run amusement park clearly is not immune to fatal accidents, even on a ride that can be found in almost every amusement park in the country. (Scramblers are pretty darn common!)
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Rye Playland's Scrambler had been retrofitted with seat belts? I was there a couple of years ago, but I don't recall if the Scrambler had seat belts.
Now, there are folks wondering if children should ever be allowed to ride alone. I'm of the opinion that such a decision should be made by the parents and guardians, not by the amusement parks and government. The parents/guardians should be in the best position to know if their child is capable of following the ride's rules.
