Ok, I knwo that I'm not much help if I say this, but I say ride all the roller coasters you can. I knwo that everybody ahs been dissing Disastor Transport and Iron Dragon, but Iron DRagon is definately a must ride, and if you have any extra time, I say go ride Disastor Transport, becuz it really is a fun ride (if youc an, try to sit more towards the back, with the back being the best spot, because ont he lift hill, you feel like you going vertically up, it is really kool). As for thrill rides, I say ride all of them. The ones that you shoudl really ride are Chaos, which is back by Wicked Twister (WT is a definate must ride), and I think you shoudl ride Troika, which is also right by WT. Chaos basically goes around ina vertical circle, while your car flips in any direction it wants, it is really fun. Troika is basically an egg scrambler that goes close to inverted. if your into egg scramblers, then you shoudl also ride calypso if your back by Blue Streak, which is an egg scrambler ona slight tilt, which gives a kool effect. The only ride that I think that u might wanna stay away from is the witch's wheel. As for water rides, they are all awesome. You should definately ride White Water Landing (you only get a little bit of mist at the bottom of the drop). Also, be sure to stop by the donut time store, right by the front carousel of the park. They have awe3some donuts for 85 cents!

Is TTD a rough ride? How long is the wait for most of the coasters?

Well that depends entirely on the ride you choose.
Millenium Force in example can range anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours. TTD is the new thrill ride, (or rollercoaster as some people say :D ) and that can range anywhere from an hour to 3 hours on an extreme case. WT has been short lately, usually not more than a half hour. Disaster Transport can be long at times for some reason, and be a half hour, though most times it is a near walk on. In the case of Raptor, the line can be stretched out the entrance, and be totally queued up, but not be more than an hour wait. Mantis, seems to be the most inefficient, as waits are usually an hour and a half or so. Mean Streak, Blue Streak, cedar Creek Mine Ride, Gemini and Magnum XL-200 are usually no more than 15 minutes or so.
Edit: Oh I forgot, TTd is smooth, not rough.

Well I would say there's not really any coasters worth missing there. I have ridden them all literally hundreds of times (I've gone there about 30 times in the past year) and I love them all for different things. If I were going to CP and I knew it might be the only time I went that summer or even for a few years, I would try to ride as many of the coasters as I could and not worry so much about the smaller carnival type rides. Those rides are in every park and state fair and while they can be fun, I would want to spend my time on the rides that you can't ride just anywhere. If there are some smaller rides you really like with short waits, go for it, but definitely ride as many coasters as you can. If you are running out of time though and need to skip some rides, I would say skip the Cedar Creek Mine Ride and the Wild Cat, because they're fun but not that original. Also, if you can't ride a rough ride for any reason, be careful of Mean Streak. It's one of my favorites, but it's not too gentle. If you do ride it though, ride as close to the front as possible. It will be slower there, but smoother as well. Have fun!:noob:

I managed to get to CP on a Monday this year (6-28-04). I arrived around 11:30a after my cousin punked out on me. And once again, TTD was closed the entire day. This was my second visit to CP since TTD opened, and I have yet to ride it :( . I got my FreeWay stamp for Mantis and MF. Decided to go ahead and ride MF first as well, and after about half hour wait, it started to downpour, closing all the rides. Lucky for me, I was still under those canopy things in the q line. Still got drenched cause those canapoys aren't designed to stop rain, just break it up into a mist. The rides re-opened about 45 minutes later and I was next in line when the power in the station went out shortly after the train before me left the station. The other two trains were halfway into thier respective stations as well. A ride operator quietly told us that some moron on the train that just left the station was doing something he shouldn't be doing, so they stopped the ride, got him off, and the CP police took him away. Half hour later, they finally got the ride restarted. I then rode Magnum with only a 20 minute wait. It was about 3:30p by the time I got off Magnum. That's 2 rides in 4 hours on a Monday. But then I managed to ride all the others by the time I left around 9p, including MF for a second time and Magnum two more times. Never did bother to ride Iron Dragon or Wildcat. And now that I think about it, I didn't ride Raptor or Blue Streak either, damn, how did I miss those two? :sulk: All in all, I had a good time, even though I did go by myself. Thanks cuz. Maybe next year, TTD will actually be open for me.
BTW, the guy sitting by the entrance of TTD told me that TTD broke down the night before and that some on-call repair team hasn't come to the park to fix it. They apparantly never made it that day, as I didn't see anything moving around in there the entire day. Last time I went to CP, the cable on TTD snapped the day before my visit. I'm sensing a pattern, I'll let everyone know the next time I plan to visit CP so you know that you have till the day before to go if you want to ride TTD.

if you have any way to not go in the summer, do it.
Go while school is session, like, late september or something, on a weekday, if the park is still open, which it should be.
I say this because I easily waited 3.5 hours for MF on a weekday during the summer.... late July or early August I think.
I also advise going alone rather than with people who will slow down your impulsive ride all day methods.... all my best theme park times are alone or with people who are as enthusiastic at riding as I am (which are hard to find)
plus... I'm not sure, but maybe CP has single rider lines... abuse the heck out of those.
Here's to riding Hulk so much I got tired of it on a crowded day at IOA while everyone else was waiting for an hour and a half for it. good times... if only DD had single rider lines :/
anyway, even if you are traveling in groups, screw it, do you have to be in the same car? No... use the single rider line, once you have ridden the heck out of you favorite ride you can kick back and wait in line forever to get in the same car together.
That's my philosophy..... more parks need single rider lines, I get so upset seeing all these empty cars pour out the station... especially on the 4 accross seaters.
I know CP has a fastpass system too, so I'd use it for MF or TTD or Mantis if available... you'd have to get reserved early though, I think.

That sounds like me with X, except I live nowhere near California so just multiply the frustration by 10.... opening memorial day 2001.. yeah right... no...... that was dissapointing, oh well, we'll ride in 2002.... nope... closed...... ALL SUMMER LONG (i'm not joking)...... well it has to be open in 03.... UMM..... NOPE.... closed both days we were there.
Damn you X... I'm not going to be able to go there this summer, what with my friend out there being in Europe (lucky him) and my family not being able to stay out there due to unforseen problems.... we're just spending a weekend.... for... a get together type thing.... it's going to be a boring and sucky trip.

CP is not open weekdays in September, as far as I recall. As for lines, when Dragster's open (which seems to be the majority of the time now) lines for other rides are noticeably shorter. Yet lines still aren't that bad even when it's closed. I went last Saturday--a beautiful, warm Saturday in June (meaning great day for everyone to go to CP) and we still only waited an hour for MF. I'm inclined to think weekdays during the summer are not as good as people tend to think, because all the kids who are out of school go during the week thinking it will be less crowded.
Also, CP doesn't have a single rider line. If you're the near the station though, you might get ahead in line because the ride ops try to pull single riders out of the line and match them up with someone on the bigger rides.
CP has the FreeWay system, which uses hand stamps to assign you a ride time. They start giving out FreeWays at 11:00 AM for most rides but 2:00 for Dragster. You go and they stamp your hand with the name of the ride and a one hour time slot, you go back during that hour and they let you in way ahead of the line. You can only have 2 stamps a day though and they go fast on Dragster and Millennium Force. But they're worth it. Plus, it's free.

I was up at Cedar Point a couple of weekends ago and TTD was closed till about mid afternoon. I believe they weren't running it because it had a bit of a head wind and wouldn't have made it up the hill. Winds were around 10-15mph with gusts in the 20-25mph range. Of course, by mid afternoon the winds died down and I got on TTD in about 45 minutes even after the mechanics had to crawl out onto the track and fix it. Kudos to the maintenance guys who were very quick with the repairs.
On a side note:
Wouldn't it had make more sense to flip TTD around during construction so the train didn't face a head wind most of the time??? I mean, when they launch the train it is facing northwest (roughly). Last time I checked, a lot of the weather for northern Ohio comes from the west and northwest. I mean, wouldn't you rather give the train a tail wind when it goes up the hill???
Oh well, it is still one heck of a ride!!!

So is Cedar Point a theme park or an amusement park?

CP is an amusement park hands down. While the park is very loosly seperated in themes (Frontierland for one), CP doesn't go overboard on theming thier rides (TTD and Disaster Transport being the exception).

I feel for you -- Castles 'n' Coasters is rather on the weak side, although I've been to worse! And, you're still a long ways from Cliff's in Albuquerque (which has one very good wood coaster and one standard Galaxi coaster), and a long ways from the L.A./San Diego areas. I know -- I drove from San Diego to Phoenix, then from Phoenix to Albuquerque on my 2004 summer trip a couple weeks ago!
However, there are some states without any adult coasters at all, so you're not as bad off as those states, if that's any consolation.
