Help! I've run UT for many years on Win ME, but now that I upgraded to Win XP, UT crashes and I get a sound error:

General Protection Fault

History: glxDetect <- UGalaxyAudioSubSystem::Init <- UEngine::InitAudio <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

When I run in Safe Mode and turn off 3D Sound, the game will work but no sound, even after I go into Preferences and turn up the volumes, etc.

I've reinstalled. No luck.

I'm running patch 436. No luck.

I've turned Latency = 100 in both places in the INI file (per another email stream). No luck.

I' have an NVidia GEForce 2 MX/MX 400 video card.

I can't prove that it is WinXP -- I installed about a month ago, and I haven't played UT for several months (been playing UT2003), but I see other threads that seem to show WinXP is not happy with UT/Nvidia.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

update your soundcard driver
do windows updates
mobo update
all driver updates you can

also you could try deleting the unrealtournament.ini file(or backing it up)

also did you do the upgrade or did you do a fresh xp install?:weird:

I had some problems with upgrades before:(

Thanks, Necromancer! You're the best!

It was the sound card driver. Not listed on WindowsUpdate, but I went to the manufacturer's site.
