I have seen a few posts lately about the uncontrolled speed in UT with laptops.
There is a fix of course by adding something like the following to your shortcut and hitting properties "target":
C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -CPUSPEED=2800
The cpuspeed is up to you depending on what you use.
However on the PC this doesn't really work. If I disable Vsync my game runs 8 times the speed it should actaully uncontrollable type speed, it isn't even.
Is there anyway to fix this so that Vsync can be disabled?
The only fix I have found has been to enable Vsync.

why would you want to disable vsync?
:confused:
If you want a higher framerate,get a badass monitor that can support +100hz :up:

The real CPU speed should be entered as in how many megahertz it's running at. An Athlon XP 2800+ does *not* run at 2.8 GHz.
What graphics mode are you using ? OpenGL ?

Yea my monitor does 100 hz at 1024/768 and 120 at 800/600:)
But I remember (way back geforce 3 days, and 3dfx ) being able to disable vsync and watch me frames go up and play as smooth as butter.
Agreed vsync is the way to play your games.

If we're talking abot laptops here that use speedstep technlolgy, and that fix doesnt work, this should work, at least it did for me:
go to the power properties and pick home/office. This way the processor will not clock down and up when the power is plugged in.

Right now my main rig is a P4-2.8 with hyperthreading.
I tried that fix even though I am using a desktop, cause if I disable vsync my game runs waaay to fast, it would be like 200% game speed with erratic speed, moving fast and faster,then slower etc.
Kind of like the old speed thing people use to do to their "ini" files
Aliases[2]=(Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=+300.0",Alias=MoveForward)
Aliases[3]=(Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=-300.0",Alias=MoveBackward)
Aliases[4]=(Command="Axis aBaseX Speed=-150.0",Alias=TurnLeft)
Aliases[5]=(Command="Axis aBaseX Speed=+150.0",Alias=TurnRight)
Aliases[6]=(Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=-300.0",Alias=StrafeLeft)
Aliases[7]=(Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=+300.0",Alias=StrafeRight)
Aliases[8]=(Command="Jump | Axis aUp Speed=+300.0",Alias=Jump)
Aliases[9]=(Command="Button bDuck | Axis aUp Speed=-300.0",Alias=Duck)"
============
Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=+600.0",Alias=WarpForward)
(Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=-600.0",Alias=WarpBackward)
Bound to "WarpForward"
"WarpBackward"
By warping it and increasing the number in triples, but if done enough the game would be erratic.
That would be the only way to describe the uneven speed.
Is this a WinXp thing?
Cause my UT is running at everything at default and still the same issue when disabling vsync.
Cause I use to run the game at over 200 frames a few years ago, on Win2k and it ran marvelously. Vsync disabled.
I don't mind playing with Vysnc but I want to know why the game is running weird on newer systems if vsync is disabled?
It prolly has to do with a "Cpu" fix somwhere cause the game is not reading something correctly...

The speed issue is caused by touchpad drivers. Remove them and use the Windows drivers. Problem solved.

This isn't the issue I was refering to though, just regular PC's with a normal keyboard , not laptops or touchpad etc.
If you disable vsync under Xp with a Cpu over 2 gigs, i.e 2.8 and you have a 9600 pro and above video card, with disabled vsync the game runs into hyperspeed.
I experience hyperspeed with vsync disabled on my PC as do a lot of peeps, some lower netspeed online to handle it, to cap the frames. For myself I find this not to be a good solution as my game is choppy, the only real bona fide solution so far is enabling vsync to ensure smooth gameplay.

Man, that sucks.. Thanks for the info. It would be easy if their was a patch to address that, but I suppose the game is just too old to bother for them.

Agreed. I don't understand why they (EPIC) "WonT" do this?
It boggles me mind, since they totally ignored the vast majority of UT players and their wishes, at least patch the original game that gave them so much success to at least have a tighter netcode, and able to work with the new OS Xp, and the newer hardware.
