Hi all, Im having a little trouble getting ut99 to recognize my extra buttons on my mouse. Im using a mx510 and have the latest drivers installd. I emagine this is a fairly common issue. What can i do to rectify this situation?

using the mx510 software, assign keys on the keyboard that you dont usually use, to what you want for the extra buttons. then inside your user.ini file assign those keys for weapons or moves that you want [e.g. little finger is shock]
that way the mouse returns a key when you are in word.
for mine i have the thumb button assigned to "o" and the little finger to "p", then in the user.ini i have o=switchweapon 7 and i have p=switchweapon 4.
thumb = mini, little finger = shock.

Right click your mouse icon hit "Mouse Properties"
Then Hit on top the tab "BUTTONS"
Select of the 8 buttons which one to modify.
For example button 4 in the list hit the tab that says "modify"
From there you should see a drop down box, select from the list "KEYSTROKE"
Where it says "unassigned" hit any key from your keyboard that you want for that button.
So for button 4 you might want the letter G, So when you go into your UT you can simply hit that button when you see a weapon you like or whatever for that button, the game will now read the button as if it is the keyboard.

Right, i know how to reassign them as keystrokes, im wandering how to get them to register as they are, as mouse4 and mouse5. The only way that it works as a keystroke(for me anyway) is if the mouseware is running in the background, which is no good for me as i have almost all programs disabled when i play games.

Ah I see, Me bad on that. I misunderstood what it is you wanted. I know in some games the thumb buttons are seen as what they are additional buttons.
I am not sure with UT, if that can be done? Depending on the game. I know the program is running about 4k in the background, so I doesn't take a heck of a lot of memory, but if your low on ram you might want to disable certain things.
I think from another perspective though outside of memory use that a person might want the buttons as is, I was tinkering with using my NUM pad for movement, and my movement got screwed up, probablly related to the mouseware installed.
Other than that I am using the keystroke thing and not having too much problems.
Was there any problem specifically that the mousware was causing?

No, no problems im just in need of all the ram i can get. But ill bite the bullet and keep mw in the background. No biggie. Thanks for the help tho.
